Chapter 192: The Devil in the ranking
Zi Haoran paced back and forth inside his courtyard with a pensive gaze. Every time he sent his consciousness into his Spirit Comms, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Unbeknownst to him, his back was already drenched in cold sweats. The night cold breeze couldn't provide solace to his troubled heart.
Previously, he was confident about his position. But now, he was not sure. The sudden rise of the anomaly sent shivers down his spine.
Life, full of surprises, they are not what you can close your eyes to.
Tonight, it happened in quick succession that put everyone on the edge. Tension hung in the air, mixed with anticipation. The birth of the sudden rise of the anomaly left a bitter taste in many, while many found it fascinating.
Those who found it fascinating had nothing to lose, but those who had a bitter taste in their mouths were the ones pushed out of the top ten.
Now, the anomaly had stopped in the fifth position. To many, he had exhausted his power and many could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
There were only thirty minutes to midnight, and it was like an eternity. It seemed so stretched that those in the ranking were having difficulty; the fabric of time had not been tampered with.
Inside the Xiao clan main hall, Xiao Chunhua sat with a bright smile as she was eating some cookies while checking the ranking. Her position as the sixth ranker was as stable as Mount Tai.
Sitting across from her were her parents, the patriarch, and matriarch of the Xiao clan. They gazed at the little girl with a bright smile, full of love and care.
They knew how much this meant to their daughter and therefore decided to support her until midnight.
Watching the sudden rise of the anomaly on the men's ranking, they were worried that such would happen in the female ranking. And if such happened, they could quickly comfort their little girl.
Suddenly, they saw their smiling daughter crease her brow. "What is it?" her mother asked.
Xiao Chunhua looked at her mother and responded. "Ye Zhen just called me."
"Ye Zhen!" Her parents exclaimed in surprise.
They stared at their daughter, trying to find some mischievousness on her face but found none.
"When did he come back?" Her mother asked no one in particular, but the question showed how shocked she was.
"Mother, how would I know," Xiao Chunhua rolled her eyes at her mother.
"The others must be on their way back," Patriarch Xiao said with a look of longing on his face.
"What should I tell him?" She asked impatiently.
"Ah-yes. What did he ask?" Her father asked.
"He wants me to help him send his picture and video to my fans."
"Oh! So he is the one that is rising so quickly." A look of realization appeared on his father's face.
"Chunhua, just help him. You won't lose anything anyway." Her mother said.
"Yes, help him. At least, they will know we are not at odds with them with everything that just happened." Her father added.
"Alright." She nodded and sent her consciousness into the Spirit Comms.
In a couple of minutes later, the slowly rising anomaly suddenly got a massive boost.
The rise was quick that many didn't even react to the speed.
If those in the Lotus World knew the concept of bots, perhaps they would have thought the ranking was being manipulated by bots.
In the western part of the outer city, inside a five-story building housing one of the powerful merchants in the outer city.
A young man sat in the middle of two naked women, squeezing their breasts with glee.
He was the son of a wealthy merchant with good looks and a playboy. He was famous for his debauchery and his lavish spending, making him popular among women.
As for his ranking, he was sure as hell nothing could move his position. He led the fifth rank with over one million votes.
Where in the hell would anybody find such votes at this die minute, so he thought.
Bang!
Suddenly, the door to his room was slammed open, and the boy rushed inside with a dreadful expression on his face.
"Young master…." He shouted.
"Shut up! Why are you shouting like a fool?"
The boy didn't seem to care about the anger directed at him from his young master; he just needed to pass out the news to him before it was too late.
Just as he was prepared to speak, he was interrupted.
"Get out, don't you see I'm busy."
"Y-Young…"
"I said get out!"
He stood frozen with wide eyes, not expecting such an outcome. He looked at his young master and wanted to speak, but seeing his master's piercing gaze.
He swallowed the lumps in his throat and retreated with a heavy step.
Coming out of the room, he saw a fat middle-aged man. He bowed and prepared to speak but was beaten to it once again.
"You don't have to worry. I will tell him."
With that, the fat, pot-belly middle-aged man opened the door to his son's room.
"Are you…" The young master's voice trailed off when he saw his father.
"Father!" he called and stood up from the midst of girls.
"While you are wasting your time with ordinary girls. Your rank has been taken away from you."
"You are useless in all aspects and only have good looks. But in that aspect as well, you failed."
"Father! what do you say?" He asked with a stunned expression.
His father looked at him with anger and pity before turning to leave the room.
Looking at the departed back of his father, he didn't dilly-dally and sent his consciousness into the Spirit Comms.
"En. En." His chest rising and falling as perspiration filled his body.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
His loud shriek reverberated throughout the building, spreading to the quiet street and the neighborhood.
The two ladies in the room jumped in fright as they watched the young man fall to the ground, losing consciousness.
Confidence was a great asset, but overconfidence could lead to complacency and downfall.
Tonight, it was his. And perhaps, it wasn't over for tonight.
The Devil in clothing had now set his eyes on the third rank.
What would be his fate?
