Chapter 206: Escaping the Burning Forest
Chapter 206: Escaping the Burning Forest
Chiren felt a faint sense of danger coming from the talisman in Nanlan Qianxue's hands, but it was certainly not to the extent of being able to threaten his life.
After all, so what if it was a talisman that contained a power equivalent to a martial artist at the Origin Core realm?
He, himself, was a bona fide Origin Core realm martial artist!
The illusory form of a ball of fire shimmered into existence behind Chiren, and he drove the Slaughter Essence in his inner world to the extreme. Intense flames gathered in his hands, multiple times more terrifying than the flames that he had been using before.
At this moment, Nanlan Qianxue also threw the offensive talisman upwards, fully unleashing the power within.
The World Origin Energy that had been summoned forth by the talisman congealed into the figure of a ten metres tall armoured giant. The newly summoned giant did not hesitate, directly punching out towards Chiren.
This punch seemed simple, but the sheer power behind it was sufficient to cause the air to tremble violently.
Faced with the fearsome attack of the armoured giant, Chiren did not cower. Instead, he only felt relieved that he had chosen to take care of Nanlan Qianxue first.
Otherwise, this talisman could really bite him in the ass if used against him when he had his guard down.
Even if going after Nanlan Qianxue failed to lure out Nanlu Tianzi in the end, it would still have been a wise choice on his part.
"That is not enough to stop me!" Chiren slammed out with his palms.
This time, he shot out a ball of fire that was much smaller as compared to the ones that before. When placed beside the ten feet tall armoured giant, it seemed even smaller in comparison.
However, things were not as simple as it seemed.
With his Origin Totem out on full display, Chiren was now exhibiting the full extent of his powers.
While this smaller ball of fire looked less impressive, it was packed with extremely dense Essence energy. It was designed such that upon striking its target, this concentrated ball of fire would explode all in an instant, bringing about a level of destruction that was multiple times that of before!
Bang-!
The ball of fire exploded upon striking the fist of the armoured giant, sending out a wave of intense light that would be blinding to even Origin Core realm martial artists.
Not just that, but the resulting shockwave sent Chiren backing off as well.
The explosion lasted for a mere instant.
As the smoke was starting to clear, Chiren narrowed his eyes in caution.
From within the smoke, a fist was headed straight out towards him!
"You wish!" Chiren drove his Slaughter Essence once more, firing out another condensed ball of fire.
Bang-!
Yet another explosion, but this time, Chiren did not wait to see the result.
He immediately drove the Slaughter Essence within his inner world, preparing to fire out a third condensed ball of fire.
Despite the smoke from the explosion, Chiren's perception allowed him to make out exactly what was going on in front of him.
The first explosion had taken away the right hand of the armoured giant, while the second explosion had taken away its left hand.
Now, Chiren was intending to finish it off with the third strike!
"Begone!" Chiren struck out with his palms, sending forth the condensed ball of fire.
The armoured giant might be powerful, but it was not fast at all. All it could do was to take his attack head on.
Bang-!
This final explosion directly took out the body of the armoured giant, causing its figure to crumble before dissipating into thin air.
With the disappearance of the armoured giant, the offensive talisman also lost its power and disappeared along with it, removing the only obstacle that had stood between Chiren and Nanlan Qianxue.
Nanlan Qianxue gritted her teeth in frustration.
She had wanted to be of use to Nanlu Tianzi, but did not expect how quickly Chiren could take down the offensive talisman.
Even so, Nanlan Qianxue knew that there was no turning back by now.
Whether she liked it or not, she had to bear the weight of her consequences.
She only hoped that these few moments that she was delaying Chiren for would end up being useful to Nanlu Tianzi.
"Just die," Chiren gestured with his palm, preparing to send a regular ball of fire towards Nanlan Qianxue.
Summoning a condensed ball of fire required a large amount of Essence energy, and he had already expended quite a bit by now. For that reason, Chiren was reluctant to keep on using it.
More importantly, Chiren believed that a regular ball of fire should be more than enough to take care of a mere Intermediate Essence Condensation realm martial artist.
At this moment, Nanlan Qianxue pulled out yet another item that surprised Chiren.
This time, it was her Frost Jade Sword, a Primary Origin Core rank weapon.
It had to be known that not every Origin Core realm martial artist would be able to get their hands on an Origin Core rank weapon.
Seeing that a mere Intermediate Essence Condensation realm martial artist could possess a Primary Origin Core rank weapon, Chiren instantly understood that Nanlan Qianxue's status was not low at all.
In that case, getting rid of her could end up being an additional bonus!
Chiren's eyes flashed with greed as he started looking forward to going through the contents of her spatial ring.
Nanlan Qianxue gripped tightly around the hilt of the Frost Jade Sword, Chiren's attack from before still replaying in her mind.
So this was an attack from an Origin Core realm martial artist
At this moment, Nanlan Qianxue could not help but recall a scene from when she was at the Wild Melody Circus.
Back then, Nanlu Tianzi had been able to overwhelm Elder Wenshen's frontal attack despite being at the Intermediate Essence Condensation realm.
Now, she was also at the same Intermediate Essence Condensation realm, and the opponent was not even going all out in his next attack.
Would she be able to block this?
Even though she could not be compared to a cheat-like existence in Lu Tianzi, Nanlan Qianxue was still an individual with exceptional martial talent.
It would not be an exaggeration even if she were to be called a martial genius, and for people like her, they would steadily increase the gap between them and their peers with each progressive cultivation boundary.
During the Nine Suns Trial, Nanlan Qianxue had already been capable of contending with Advanced Essence Condensation realm martial artists. Now that her cultivation level had advanced by one boundary, her combat prowess had already exceeded most Peak Essence Condensation realm martial artists.
Coupled with her Frost Jade Sword, it truly gave her the capability to contend with an Origin Core realm martial artist, even if only for one or two moves.
Had she been facing Elder Wenshen of the Quake Scroll Sect, blocking a single strike would have been difficult, but not impossible.
But unfortunately for her, Chiren was not a First Cycle Origin Core realm martial artist like Elder Wenshen.
Unable to detect the cultivation levels of Origin Core realm martial artists, Nanlan Qianxue was naturally oblivious to this.
All she could do was pray in her heart as she slashed out with the Frost Jade Sword.
She had driven every last bit of Slaughter Essence within her inner world, putting everything she had behind this one strike!
The temperature dropped as a powerful wave of frost energy exploded out from within the Frost Jade Sword, headed straight towards Chiren. This energy was birthed from the weapon itself, and further augmented by Nanlan Qianxue's own materialised Slaughter Essence and her Law of Ice.
At this moment, Chiren's eyes widened in surprise.
This attack from Nanlan Qianxue had truly surpassed his expectations.
Subconsciously, his combat instincts kicked in, prompting him to channel more Essence energy into his hands, sending down a much stronger ball of fire down towards Nanlan Qianxue.
But that was not all.
After all, his feeling of surprise was not purely due to Nanlan Qianxue's unexpectedly powerful attack.
From behind, Chiren could sense the aura of an Advanced Essence Condensation realm martial artist charging towards him.
What luck!
The target really appeared!
Chiren spun around excitedly, slamming out his other palm towards Lu Tianzi.
His aim was right on target as another ball of fire tore through the air, heading straight for the approaching Lu Tianzi.
This time, Lu Tianzi no longer dodged.
Or rather, even if he wanted to, the ball of fire came at him so quickly that it would have been difficult for him to do so.
Instead, Lu Tianzi leapt into the air, slashing out towards Chiren with his Sword of Ivory Rock.
Returning Wraith Sword!
Two separate beams of sword light, aimed towards the same target.
Two separate fireballs, aimed towards different targets.
A single sound of explosion, birthed from two clashes with different results.
Bang-!
Lu Tianzi's sword strike completely negated Chiren's ball of fire, but the same could not be said for Nanlan Qianxue.
Even after going all out, it was still impossible for Nanlan Qianxue to block an attack from a Third Cycle Origin Core realm martial artist.
The ball of intense flames continued on its path, descending upon her and completely blasting her off her feet.
Nanlan Qianxue was sent flying multiple metres away, stopping only after her body hit a tree that was in her way. After which, her limp body fell to the ground, completely motionless.
Despite that, Lu Tianzi let out a sigh of relief upon seeing this.
He could still sense some signs of life from Nanlan Qianxue, though they were extremely weak right now.
It seemed that even though Nanlan Qianxue's earlier sword strike had been overwhelmed by Chiren's fireball, it had still been able to cancel out enough of the fireball's momentum to avoid receiving a fatal injury.
Lu Tianzi dashed straight past Chiren, heading straight for Nanlan Qianxue to pick up her motionless body. He did not delay after that, immediately taking off away from Chiren and into the burning forest.
It was only then that Chiren finally snapped back from his stunned state.
His attack failing to kill off Nanlan Qianxue was shocking enough, but that was nothing when compared to the fact that Nanlu Tianzi had actually managed to get away completely unscathed from his attack!
Even if not for the task given to him, he definitely must not allow these two monstrous youngsters to grow!
But before he could give chase, a sense of danger suddenly came from behind.
At this moment, sword light had converged behind him, slashing towards him with a force equivalent to Lu Tianzi's earlier sword strike.
Damn it!
Chiren could only turn to deal with this secondary sword strike.
Right as he was done, he felt another burst of aura from Nanlu Tianzi, this time at the edge of the circle of fire that they were currently in.
Indeed, carrying Nanlan Qianxue, Lu Tianzi had dashed straight to the edge of the circle of fire, forcing his way through in an instant.
Before anything else, he had to first escape from this burning forest.
Even though Chiren had been in a dazed state earlier, Lu Tianzi did not see it as an opportunity to quickly get rid of Chiren.
Martial artists at their level had extremely quick reactions.
And should he end up getting drawn into a long fight against Chiren right now, it would be extremely disadvantageous to Lu Tianzi.
After all, this entire area was about to be submerged under a sea of flames.
When that happened, Chiren could easily retreat by just flying out of the forest, but Lu Tianzi did not have the ability to do so.
Lu Tianzi certainly did not wish to end up in a situation where he had to continuously defend against Chiren's fireballs while trapped in a burning forest!
Thus he had escaped at the first opportunity, heading in the direction that was opposite from Chiren.
Unfortunately, that was also away from the direction of the battleground.
This meant that the further he ran, the deeper he was going into the wilderness, thereby further reducing the chances of any potential backup from the Scarlet Moon Army.
