Chapter 58: The Intermission
Chapter 58: The Intermission
As soon as night came, the evening segment highlighting all the main events of the culling was shown. This was for the sake of all who were too busy with their day-to-day activities to watch the live broadcast itself. And at that moment, it was Quinn who opened up the program.
"Ladies and gentlemen this may just be the most jam-packed Culling we have ever seen to date!"
"Indeed it is! Apart from the spectacular performance of the Void domain on the first day, we have also witnessed how the earth domain acted immediately on the second day!" Kaguya followed up.
As mentioned, the only part of the culling that isn't broadcasted live is the first day. Everything that happens after the opening day is shown on all the Image Cores within the ten continents. Being fed with all that the Odd Balls within the arena could see. This didn't help the titans find their opponents because, there is an equal distance with the odd balls. They didn't need to move from their positions and were simply floating up in the air; taking a look at only a specific area and nothing else.
Through these Odd Balls, everyone was able to see the weird performance of the Earth titans. It was labeled as such because, Earth titans were never known to be the assertive type when it came to Cullings. They were more of the hiding type which focused on hunting monsters while running away from any fights.
Yet on that specific Culling, they went and hunted the second runner ups from last year and, won almost effortlessly.
"It may be a bit hard to believe folks but this is it! This may be the year when the winds blow for something different." Kaguya eagerly commented; being from the Earth Domain herself.
Everyone also watched as Sol and Alice cold bloodedly chased after the fleeing summoners. They showed no mercy and acted like professional hunters. Taking down their targets and extracting their cores before finally deciding to go back to their base.
"But don't you think those two are merely surviving because of luck?" Quinn said, a sentiment which was shared by many other.
"Yes that seems to be the rumor spreading around after their latest feat. That is why we have brought an expert on the two to get some answers!"
"That's right folks. The things you wanted to know about the two mysterious Void titans will now come to light!"
"We give you the King of the Void! Jubilee Pendragon!"
It wasn't that uncommon for a ruler to appear on the broadcast. Especially one who had some promising titans placed into the game. This was also a form of entertainment as well as a way for some questions in the head of the citizens to be answered as clearly as possible.
King Jubilee appeared together with Lilia who was forced to dress formally for the show. The two were also exchanging some words, with Lilia sighing in defeat which was never a good sign for anything. Jubilee then went on stage, sitting on a couch designed for a hotseat segment with the two hosts sitting on the opposite side.
"Greetings everyone!" King Jubilee began. Shaking the hands of both Kaguya and Quinn who began speaking right away.
"So King Jubilee, all the buzz is centered on your titans this year. We've prepared five of their most asked questions and you can choose to answer as minimally as you want."
"Can I choose not to answer then?" Lilia looked at the man with her eyebrows furrowing.
"You can, King Jubilee. We cannot force you to disclose information if it is not to your liking." Quinn answered, getting irritated by the seeming thought of King Jubilee to minimize answering.
"Ahh I see, and there are only five questions correct?"
"Yes. Only five of the most frequently asked questions." Kaguya said in reply.
"Okay. You may begin."
"Right, the first question. Why are there only two contestants this year? What happened to all their teammates?" This was perhaps the most shocking thing in the beginning of the Culling.
As soon as the transport of the Voids were made, only two titans appeared. It wasn't taboo but, it was never seen as a good strategy. And at that moment, the answer was given by Jubilee in the most concise form.
"Oh those three? I made my participants kill them." There was a strange silence that came over the studio. And it was Kaguya who was able to break free first.
"P-Pardon?" She asked, stupefied by the answer of the king.
"During the training I required my titans to meet a certain standard. The three didn't qualify and so they were killed."
"Ha-Hahaha! that must be a joke right? Good one king "
"It isn't. The reason why there are only two contestants this year is because, there are only two who qualify as proper titans and, who can bring victory for the Void."
"But why would you ask something like that?"
"Because my land is desperate. If you watched on the first day of broadcast, I already mentioned it. That my domain has had enough of all the mistreatment which all the other domains have been giving us."
"King Jubilee that isn't even true. What domain would make a mockery of another?" Kaguya asked.
"Are you seriously playing that card with me woman?"
"Pardon?"
"That's already your sixth question. I'm not required to answer anymore am I?"
"Oh that's"
"My Void titans are as true as they can get. Both are twelve-year-old orphans who grew in the most cruel state in the slums. I am not proud of this as a king and, I wish that I could've given them a better future. But fate must be smiling upon me and my goals because, those same children who have been robbed of everything are going to rob all of you of what you currently have."
"This Culling is only the beginning. You can ask your rulers what will happen after. But believe me, and I'll stake my own life on this, that by the end of the Culling, all of you will be ruled by the Void."
With that the broadcast was abruptly ended. The people of every domain was left in an even greater uproar than before. So much so that it was getting difficult for the governing powers to calm them down. In fact, most kings and queens weren't happy about the flow of things and how Jubilee seems to have put the reins on the whole populace.
Yet the facts didn't lie. Two domains were already eliminated; both strong in their own merits. While the summoning domain were largely taken out by the Earth titans, the fact still remains that, the Void titans tracked them down and even hunted down the remainder of these titans.
Little did they know that this was only the tip of the iceberg for Jubilee. This was only the beginning and things will continue escalating from that point onwards. Because Jubilee already knew who the real enemy was and, he was more than happy to bring this person down and expose him for his lies.
The king left the studio with a wide grin on his face. With things continuing as they were, it would only be a matter of time before an emergency meeting is called upon the Sanctuary. And it was there that he planned to catch the impostor red handed.
"Reckon, let's see what you're up to old man." The king said, teleporting back to the Void together with Lilia.
