Chapter 1: Cultivating Immortality and Doomsday through a Double Door

In a small shelter in the mountain city, two young individuals sat by the muddy roadside.

“This apocalypse, let’s go back a year. The world changed dramatically. I remember it well. It was May 14th. The moon that night was a crimson red. Overnight, many people turned into zombies…”

The man continued his relentless narration, and Wu Ping listened quietly.

“Afterwards, people discovered that these zombies produce zombie nuclei, which can be consumed. Each zombie nucleus serves as a source of evolution, enhancing individuals’ physical abilities. Some fortunate ones even awaken extraordinary powers.”

“For instance, our shelter’s leader awakened earth-based abilities…”

Wu Ping listened attentively. The information was precisely what he needed.

After a while, Wu Ping had heard enough. He rose slowly, saying, “That’s it for today. I’ll be on my way.”

He ignored the other person’s reaction and disappeared into the dimly lit alley. The next moment, he found himself inside a wooden house, contemplating on a bed.

Over a month ago, he had crossed into this world, becoming an initiate in the Blood Rain Sect. The memories revealed that it was a realm of cultivation. However, Wu Ping’s identity as a demonic cultivator within a dark sect was an unfortunate twist. After a month of diligent practice, he successfully absorbed spiritual energy into his body.

But then, as a traverser, he discovered his “golden finger” had seemingly activated. In his sea of consciousness, an ancient portal stood.

Wu Ping entered the portal with a research mindset, and the scenery instantly changed. He was amidst ruins with towering buildings. Seeing the urban landscape, Wu Ping felt elated.

Could he have returned to the modern world? If so, wouldn’t he be the only cultivator in the city?

Excitement surged through him at the thought. However, his joy diminished as he witnessed the presence of zombies.

Confused, Wu Ping later explored a shelter, gathering intelligence. That’s when he learned that the night he traversed marked the beginning of a global apocalypse.

The end was upon them…

When the blood moon hung in the sky, the majority became zombies. Moreover, in this world, more than a year has passed. Wu Ping casually calculated, determining that the time flowed at a ratio of one to ten between the two worlds. The cultivation realm was one, and this world was ten.

Facing the impending apocalypse, Wu Ping remained unaffected, an orphan without any family. Lost in thought on maximising benefits from both worlds, he discovered that each zombie contained a living soul. This was remarkable! In cultivating immortals, acquiring a living soul was extremely challenging, making it a precious resource for alchemy, Qi refining, and practising dark arts.

Wu Ping’s eyes gleamed with excitement. In this world, even zombies had living souls! What’s more, the zombie crystal nucleus could enhance the physical body. This was a boon, especially for those with lower cultivation levels. Wu Ping realised that despite it being an apocalypse for this world, it was a treasure trove prepared just for him.

Returning hastily to the realm of cultivating immortals, Wu Ping aimed to exchange for corresponding dark arts. After successfully integrating the living souls, he achieved the realm of attracting spirits. To formalise his entry, he headed to the registration office to become an outer disciple of the Blood Rain Sect.

The Elder overseeing the scripture library raised an eyebrow, questioning Wu Ping’s choices of the soul-swallowing technique, blood flame technique, and the mortal-level inferior magic weapon, the soul-refining streamer. Wu Ping was undeterred and adamant about his choices despite the lethal nature of these dark arts.

However, the Elder, long unaccustomed to such disciples, expressed concerns. The chosen techniques demanded substantial human sacrifice, a premise that couldn’t escape moral scrutiny. Despite their potency, finding mortals capable of providing the necessary life force for cultivation was not easy.

In response, Wu Ping assured the Elder of his choices, acknowledging the potential risks. Shaking his head, the Elder had already resigned Wu Ping to an inevitable demise. The dark arts were powerful, but only if one could practice them. Wu Ping’s fate, as seen by the Elder, was either falling prey to righteous cultivators or being unable to cultivate.

While registering, the Elder issued a reminder saying, “Return in a month, do not pass on these teachings to others, or bear the consequences yourself.”
