Chapter 154: Saving as many lives as possible
No way, he really cut the stomach of a living beastman without any hesitations, Gavin thought as while sweating profusely. He felt a bit unstable upon seeing the sight in front of him.
The sound of flesh tearing and blood gushing made not only Gavin but the other two men troubled as well.
Damien didn't pay attention to their troubled looks; he first sliced open the stomach and removed the broken piece of the porcupine needle that was sticking out of the large intestine. As soon as he did that, blood gushed out of the large intestine, making a bloody mess.
This was enough to make the three healers nervous but Damien didn't even break a sweat.
"The cause of internal bleeding has been removed; now I will suture the intestine that is bleeding," he said to the three men while cleaning the tongs that he had used to take out the broken piece of the porcupine thorn.
"What–? Are you sure?" Robert was stunned when he heard Damien's words. The cut was so small, could it even be sutured?
Damien glanced at the healer but didn't say anything; instead, he turned to look at Gavin and said to him, "Come here and stretch the abdomen a bit. And Luke, try to wipe the blood inside the stomach or it will clot."
He then added, "Healer Robert, come here and wipe my sweat. We cannot let the wound fester in case it spills within his wound."
"Okay!"
Though the three men were a bit nervous and dubious, they jumped to action at once.
Damien picked up the sanitised needle before he started to sew the cut on the intestine back together. He was definitely going to save this beastman no matter what.
The hand of clock continued to run at its usual speed and yet the three men who were supporting Damien felt like each minute was passing too slowly.
They looked at the suturing on the abdomen of the beast man and pursed their lips.
'I never thought that such a thing was possible. In fact, I thought that this man was skilled enough just because he could sew the nerves of a person. Who would have thought that he can do such a great thing such as sewing the small cut on large intestine as well?' thought Gavin.
"I will be finishing now," Damien told the three men as he cut the thread.
Once he was finished suturing, he heaved a sigh of relief through his mask. "It was a success," he told them as he pulled away from the makeshift surgical table. Your journey continues with мѵʟ
"Is he alright?" Luke asked when he saw that the man was still lying on the table without showing any signs of waking up.
"He is completely fine," Damien replied as he washed the blood off his hands. "The reason he is not awake is because he is still under the effect of the spell; once the effects wear off, he will wake up."
As he finished, he handed Luke a vial that had purely transparent liquid within it. He said to him, "Pay attention to him; if he wakes up, then feed him this potion. It will help numb the pain or else the pain would be too much for this beastman to bear."
He did not know how capable the beastmen were when it came to handling pain or what their pain handling capacity was. Nor did he care; as a doctor, it was his responsibility to make sure that his patients suffered as little as possible and he was going to keep following this belief of his despite the patient being a bunch of beastmen.
His skills impressed the three healers. They had to admit that even though the medical arts that Damien showed them were a bit gruesome compared to the clean spells that they used, these skills were truly great.
If they could learn these medical arts, then they wouldn't have to worry about watching a person die in front of them. And even if they were to fail, at least they would be able to reduce the rate of beastmen deaths.
"Now, we should start saving the rest of the beastmen," Damien said to them as he turned to look at the other beastmen who were gravelly injured by the wild beasts.
"Yes!"
Hoot.
Hoot.
The sound of owls hooting echoed in the night, followed by the sound of beastmen landing on the ground from the sky. The group of owl beastemen stopped a bit further from the camp and Julian shifted back to his human form.
As soon as he shed the beastmen form, someone rushed ahead and covered his bare body with a robe.
"Tsk, those bastards! They really are doing whatever they want now, aren't they?" Julian cursed as he tied the strings of the robes in a haphazard manner.
The Keon family had gotten more and more out of hands, with Emiliano's desire to suppress the four families and control the court, the attacks on the four generals have increased. If this goes on, then would they even have a way left for them to survive?
No wonder his father kept sighing and said to him that the nation was about to be ruined. This was the fate that lies in front of the nation with an incompetent ruler!
Julian wished he could return to the imperial city and ask Emiliano what he was trying to do. Why was he relying on those who were incompetent and destroying the foundation of the families who have supported the imperial court for ages?
He turned his head and looked at the wounded beastman who was being carried in the arms of one of the beastmen following him.
"What is the condition of Uncle?" he asked the healer who was taking care of Jami.
"I am afraid that his condition is truly bad, my Lord," the healer replied promptly. "I –I cannot heal a severe injury of this degree."
