Chapter 49- Second test
Chapter 49- Second test
Clara has become quite accustomed to her job and has been fulfilling the requirements to be an ideal teacher. Amongst those necessities, the need to maintain a calm and composed front was also included.
However, since an hour or so ago, she couldn't help but let her mask fall off when she sensed 'him' here in the Academy.
Her motive to join the Starfall Academy was to expand her reach and get to know more people, which wouldn't have been possible if she had decided to stay in the village. Clara hoped that her initiative would lead her to her savior.
However, not in her wildest dreams she anticipated that just at the entrance ceremony she would feel his presence again.
The potions she makes resonate in her presence and the pouch she packed those vials in, was an artifact's half-twin. That's why she couldn't be mistaken about the fact that her masked savior was here.
"Next is, the first-year representative's speech."
Hearing the announcement, Clara moved her gaze to the stage where the beautiful blond young girl appeared.
Many of the students gasped and began to murmur to themselves about how beautiful and angel-like Alatia looked.
Clara met this girl when she came to the Academy for the entrance ceremony. And for some reason, compared to that time, she looked more vibrant and confident.
'I wonder if she is the type for whom 'he' might fall...' Clara couldn't help but think about what his type might be. An old woman like her with a peculiar shade of hair surely wouldn't be his first choice. Right?
"On this auspicious day, I would like to..." The speech began and Clara forcibly stopped her train of thought.
Although she wanted to search for him right now she needs to be patient with her approach. Her savior is the shy type and might run away from an overbearing lady like her.
'Nice and slow I have to move...' Forming a plan for how she would reach out to him, Clara spent the rest duration of the speech in a daze.

The next test of the servants involved some movement of the body—but not as in combat.
"We are going to test your skills at waltz. Given that you might need to accompany your master and sometimes other nobles might want to share a dance with you, to maintain grace and not embarrass someone of higher rank, we must conduct this test." This time it was a man in his late thirties or so, standing on the podium and directing the students.
Kyle along with the other nineteen students got up on their feet. They were given some time to rest before they were called to the next test site.
"Now, pair up with a partner and get in positions."
Kyle was about to ask the brown-haired timid-looking girl on his left when suddenly someone came right in front of him and asked,
"Would you mind sharing a dance with me?" Much to his shock, it was the cool beauty Elera who took the initiative to approach him.
Kyle was not rude enough to reject her just because she was a heroine. Not to talk about, rejecting her would cost him points.
Sliding his left foot back a little he tilted his body a little forward and offered his hand in her direction,
"If you are okay with me."
Elera was momentarily stunned by his gracious approach before, in a daze, she gave him, her hand.
Just like them, others also got into position. Since there was a female majority in the room, there were some pairs of both being girls. But that's a trivial thing to even get concerned for.
Lightly holding her thin waist with his right hand and his left one holding her right hand, Kyle moved with the music and Elera followed his lead quite perfectly.
Although she learned to dance two months ago, and there were times when she made some mistakes, with Kyle she felt she couldn't take any misstep. He is great at leading—Elera inwardly commented.
The classic music resonated gently across the hall as the ten pairs swayed on the tune in perfect sync.
A minute or so had passed when Elera finally revealed the reason why she approached him for the dance,
"Thank you for the help back then. If not for you, then I might have ended up failing the test."
Twirling the girl on her feet, and pulling her close again, he replied, "What did you prepare to pass? I mean, everyone passed whether they chose the right ingredient or not, but what about you? Are you in the clear?"
Since Elera had a smiling voice, despite how much she tried to hide it, Kyle discerned that she served a non-poisonous food to the instructor—making a spot in in the top rankers.
Elera gave him an answer after placing her hand back on his shoulder, "I made some instant fried chicken and added the leftover spaghetti which wasn't salted. I think the instructor quite liked it."
"Hmm~quite the efficient type."
Just for a moment, Kyle thought he saw Elera smiling but she went back to her indifferent self in an instant.
"How did you know that the salt is poisonous?" Elera asked curiously since Kyle never tasted it yet he could tell. And the fact he informed her near the end means he precisely knew that the salt wasn't unhealthy since the beginning.
"Hmm~I would keep that secret to myself for now. After all, we don't even know each other's name."
Elera paused, just for a moment, before continuing. She is not good at dealing with people and taking up clues was not something she could feel confident about. However, right now she knew he was asking for an introduction.
She remained silent after that and the other party also didn't insist.
Their dance continued for another five minutes before the music finally came to a halt.
Kyle was about to let go of her hand and bow to thank her. But he wasn't able to take his hand away.
Directing a questioning gaze at Elera, he heard the girl saying,
"I am Elera. Remember the name since I would be beating you in this test."
Kyle grinned at that, before he replied, "Then...I would suggest you wait for my name. After all, soon you will see it on the top of the result board."
Saying so, Kyle stepped back and after giving a bow, he walked away from a smirking Elera.
The students gathered around once again in front of the instructor who addressed them,
"Excellent performance, young ones. Your form, your grace, and your personality, everything was showcased through this ten-minute waltz. Although some were more focused on their partner rather than the dance itself, " When he said that, the oldest one in the hall glanced at Elera, before continuing, "...but that doesn't matter. Unless you don't step on your partner's feet because of your fascination, then it's all good."
Elera felt embarrassed and slightly bewildered being targeted with such charges. Did she look fascinated by her partner?
Regardless, the older one continued without paying heed to Elera's growing dilemma,
"Next is your final test. You have shown your skills as a caretaker and a partner. And now you need to show how good you are as a bodyguard."
While fixing his glasses, the instructor concluded,
"Next is your combat test."
