Chapter 180: Chen Mo Hosts the Talk

Chapter 180: Chen Mo Hosts the Talk

A lot of chatter following the announcement.

Huh? Qiu Bin isnt coming?

Why not?

I heard its a personal reason.

Man, I really wanted to listen to his talk, why didnt he come?

Its pretty funny on the officials end too to only notify us now.

Whatever, theres a VR game talk next door, lets listen to that.

Geez, I wanted to learn a thing or two about mobile card games seeing how profitable it was this year. Thats too bad.

Many were preparing to leave the hall.

At this moment, Qiu Jiang made her way to the stage and grabbed the microphone, Qiu Bin isnt here, but Chen Mo was. You guys should try and convince him to give the talk, wouldnt that be better than Qiu Bin?

Many of the designers chose to stay after hearing Qiu Jiangs suggestion.

Chen Mo? The Chen Mo that made Onmyoji? Hes here too?

My goodness, his game absolutely destroyed Qiu Bins Demon Slayers 2. His talk must be better than Qiu Bins!

Yeah, I Am MT was made by Chen Mo too. Hes the pioneer of mobile card games.

Wheres Chen Mo? Which ones Chen Mo?

Im not going. Wheres Chen Mo? Get on the stage, Chen Mo!

Qiu Jiang was really happy with herself as she walked down the stairs before dragging Chen Mo out of his seat, Go head.

Chen Mo was speechless, I was supposed to be the one listening to a speech? How come Im giving the speech now?

I just made fun of your age, did the revenge need to be so vicious?

But when Chen Mo stood up, the audience got real excited clapping.

Is that really Chen Mo? Clap!

I wanna hear too, get him to give a talk!

Chen Mo was speechless. He didnt plan on getting on stage, but he couldnt say no with this much enthusiasm from the audience.

Chen Mo didnt mind talking about his work either, others might be afraid of his work being copied, but he wasnt.

Chen Mo unwillingly got onto the stage and said, Alright, since you guys want to hear, Ill see what I can do.

Another round of applause came from the audience, followed by a lot of discussion.

Thats Chen Mo? Hes so young.

He looks like hes in his mid twenties. Hed only be in the industry for two years if he started immediately after he graduated.

This guy is an A-grade videogame designer at this age! We already lost!

And his game is making over two hundred million RMB a month!

Over two million? Thats last months number, its probably going to grow this month. With how well Onmyoji was doing, itll probably stay at the top of the leaderboards for three months at least!

My goodness, is this what a genius looks like?

Thank goodness I came today, I gotta take notes.

Everyone who planned to leave stayed in their seats waiting for Chen Mos speech.

This speech was planned for a long time because of how well mobile card games were doing. The Game Committee decided to have Qiu Bin do the talk.

Demon Slayers had been in the top spot of the best sellers for a long time after all. No matter players, popularity, or income, Qiu Bin was more than qualified to give the talk.

But who wouldve thought that Chen Mo who seemed to have settled in the PC market would double back into the mobile gaming industry, destroying the best sellers leaderboards with Onmyoji and causing mass hysteria among mobile card games.

However, as the talks have already been determined, and Qiu Bin submitted a draft for the talk too, it wouldnt be a good look if the officials decided to ditch Qiu Bin who had been preparing for this speech for a long time in exchange for Chen Mo who was quite fresh to the industry.

However, Qiu Bin wasnt having it. Why would he give a talk after Demon Slayers 2 was completely destroyed by Onmyoji?

He couldnt think of a good excuse either.

The officials agreed that it was a valid point and decided to cancel the talk. But this only happened because of miscommunications.

Chen Mo looked at the time and it was about the time to start.

The computer was connected to a projector. On it was Qiu Bins powerpoint that was submitted ahead of time. Chen Mo felt that if he gave the talk off the top of his head, he could easily go off topic, so he decided to use his powerpoint.

Chen Mo opened Qiu Bins powerpoint, and the title of the powerpoint: Analysis of profit models of mobile card games, host: Qiu Bin.

Chen Mo added a few words after Host: Qiu Bin

Host: Qiu Bin (cancelled) Chen Mo

Chen Mo cleared his throat, Im glad to be able to stand here and share my experiences with making card games.

This will probably be a bit more casual, so I hope you guys dont mind. Its not like I dont want to follow a script, but I dont have a script to follow.

This got a few laughs.

Chen Mo continued, Ill just follow this powerpoint. The core of mobile card games are pretty simple, most designers should be able to figure it out if they put some effort into it. I trust that my understanding wouldnt differ too much from Mr. Qiu Bins.

Chen Mo went to the next slide.

There was an outline on the first page. Qiu Bin prepared four points on the subject.

One, Allow players to recognise the value of the cards.

Two, Using the inherent quality of mobile games, fragmentise time.

Three, Reduce the cost and up updates, conforming to the market.

Four, utilize IP.

The next page gave a quiet overview of the first point, explaining what card value meant and how they could get the players to recognise it.

First, how to form the value of the cards.

The so-called card-value is how much a player is willing to spend on a virtual card. Different players have different values, players might spend thousands of RMB for one SSR, while others werent willing to spend any money.

Qiu Bins powerpoint was so well done that Chen Mo could talk off of every single point. Although the content was understood by most mobile card games, Chen Mo went more in depth and clarified on some points that werent clear, allowing many designers to finally understand.

So thats how it works.

This numbers model is so interesting. I felt that I was missing something, so thats what that was.

Yeah, we only understood parts of it before, but now I finally understand some of the more obscure things.

Qiu Jiang was paying quite a lot of attention. Although she focused on VR games and didnt care about mobile games at all, she was surprised and thought the industry was quite interested after hearing from Chen Mo!

It didnt take long before Chen Mo finished the first page onto Using the inherent quality of mobile games, fragmentise time

Chen Mo added a few more words to the end of the title.

Using the inherent quality of mobile games, (not necessarily) fragmentise time
