Chapter 266
Everybody gathered around me. Even Slaven and his men came out of their little citadel.
- Ok people. This thing - I pointed at the device - is called a sapling, and that's because it actually, supposedly, grows into a tree. I've never seen it, but that is the information we came across in the world I ended up. Although the race that ruled over the land before we came there, was annihilated, they left us pieces of information here and there, that's why I know. Any questions?
- Is there a way to get points without killing monsters? - asked one of the newcomers.
- In my world, it works a bit differently, but if you are asking about a cheat, then I'm afraid I don't know any. You just have to do your damn work.
- How did you get your superpowers? - asked Nori Yuuto.
- It might be different here, but I unlocked them while getting the class points. In my world, we actually hunt for monsters. They don't come to us - my face twitched a bit, as I said that.
Flashes from the invasion incident went through my mind.
- Monsters have different territories, and each territory has a dungeon of some sort. At the end, there is a boss. Way stronger type of the regular monsters. If you kill it, you get the point, and you can unlock a class with a set of skills you can upgrade then. The more classes you have, the more skills.
- How many you have? - he continued asking.
- Around fourteen, I guess.
- What else can you do? - asked one of Slaven's guys.
- Many things. Next question.
- What else do you know about this thing? - asked Alexandra, pointing at the device.
- Well... It probably can do anything, but you need to upgrade it. It has its radius. It changes the weather inside the radius and can control many other things in that area. That's why there are no animals around. That's why it's always nice weather here.
- So what's further then? A normal world, with animals? - she asked.
- Go and check yourself. How the hell would I know? It might be a normal world or a freaking hell with acid raining from the sky.
- You used it to come here? - asked Slaven.
- In some way, yes. I actually wanted to go back to earth, but as you can see, It didn't work that well.
- You said you will be gone after ten days. You will be pulled back? - he continued asking.
I hesitated for a moment. They shouldn't know about the portal because if not all, at least some would want to follow me, and that could make The Great One smite my friends.
- Yeah.
- What do you mean by in some way? - asked Alexandra.
- It's complicated, but the creatures that inhabited the world before us were using it to travel to different worlds. We have evidence for that.
- Those creatures, they made that thing? - she asked again.
- Uhm... No. We are not exactly sure how did they get it, but they definitely didn't make it.
They blasted me with more questions. Hundreds of them. On some, I couldn't answer because I just didn't know. A couple of times I just had to outright lie, but overall, I managed to do a decent job. It was hard because I really had to watch my tongue to not mention The Great One or all strange stuff that could indicate his existence. Vengeful aliens named Xuvi were one of those things.
It took hours. Eventually, we had to take a break to eat something, because I, and the rest, got simply hungry.
With the night approaching, I ended the little event, telling people to prepare for the fight. That's how we made it to the evening. Then Slaven made people stand in a formation. Just a few straight lines. With him, and his men at the front. They were there just to mostly clean after, and maybe participate a bit because I was going to handle most of the job.
I was also offered a weapon, a club, but I declined.
Monsters came with the sun going down. It was grey around, with the light slowly disappearing. The weather changed. It got chilly, which actually made me feel better as the heat was really uncomfortable.
I focused my eyes on the ruins in front, searching for the creatures, and soon they came out. A hunched humanoids with thick crocodile-like skin, and long tails. They had long claws and thin, sharp, protruding teeth. Their eyes were black and big.
For the people around those things could look scary, but for me, they were nothing compared to a raging orc boss.
Monsters didn't attack us right away, but rather gathered bigger forces. Around a hundred of them, and more were still coming out. I decided to not wait, and just charged, then shadow walked in the middle of them, created a pudao out of the void essence, and started cutting.
They were puffing into smoke, like ballons. One after another. They tried to fight, but how could they, when I was so damn fast? I made them so busy, they couldn't even think of attacking other people. They tried biting or using their claws, but before they could launch themselves at me, I was already gone, cutting down other creatures all around. Just jumping from plate to place with shadow walk.
It took me maybe five minutes to clear them all. Then I shadow walked in front of Slaven.
- Go pick the stones, count them and distribute among people - I said to him.
His mouth was wide open, just as eyes.
- What the fuck - he mumbled.
I patted him on the shoulder.
- To work!
He got back to his senses shortly after and made people work. Before the night came we managed to do everything that we should. People could upgrade themselves and were well fed, me too. I made sure of that, although both Alexandra and Slaven were doing a really good job.
Then I could finally call it a day, considering going outside the city to get more crystals.. They needed way more if they were to start handling things by themselves.
