"What are you going to do about?" Samuel asked as they went over the numbers twice more to make sure that they were correct in seeing that it didn't seem as though the numbers added up correctly.
"It gets marked for right now, but nothing gets reported until we get a third party to look it over and make sure that the numbers are indeed wrong." Lena replied as she set the paper down.
"Consider this was from a bit ago Sammy-boy, I expect that it won't be the only one like this that we'll come across. Whoever it is has probably gotten pretty comfortable with whatever their game is. If we don't handle it correctly, they'll probably disappear before they're found out."
"You can't tell based upon who submitted the reports?" Samuel asked. He had seen the way that the computer system was setup to keep track of who submitted the reports. Lena shook her head.
"No because not all the employees have dedicated computers yet. For the higher ups it's essential because they move around and use a lot of high-class information that that can't afford to be leaked or lost. For many of the other employees they share computers in departments because we do half day shifts. At least that's the plan until we can expand and afford to put more money into the setup for them." She explained as she closed off the report on her computer screen.
"It can't be assumed that just because an employee's name is put down as the one who logged that financial part of the report that they were actually the one who did it. Plus, tech does their best, but it's hard to make sure that everyone remembers to lock their computers or log out between shifts as well." Samuel was surprised to hear how low-cost the company was being run, he would've thought that much would've been put into when considering how much money it seemed as though Lena's family had.
"Don't you have the money to afford it though?" He then asked. He realized afterwards however that perhaps it wasn't the best type of question to ask since he wasn't actually all that certain of what their financial situation was.
"We do, but this is the legal side of business. We can't just invest a massive amount of money into these companies out of nowhere. It would suspicious as to where it suddenly came from. Thus, we have to go through the right legal processes and such to expand and make our revenue. Plus, my father thinks that it'll be a good experience for me to learn how to manage all of this myself rather than building it up in such a way."
"Oh, so you have to figure out how to make all of this a success on your own?" Samuel asked surprised to hear this. The princess nodded her head as she began to look through some of the other financial documents to see what other ones were submitted around that same time.
"Something like that. He'll assist before it comes crashing down so to speak, but it's not likely that that will happen since I'm not doing anything particularly rash that he would need to worry about. Small mergers after all are the best way to start and then building out from that." Samuel had a rather thoughtful expression on his face after he listened to Lena's explanation. It seemed as though there were still a lot of pieces that weren't quite what they seemed to be to him.
"It's almost time for lunch, you can continue working through those if you want until then. My secretary will also be coming in before that. The knocking on the door will be him." Lena told Samuel as she motioned to the papers that were left on the coffee table. He took the calculator back from her but stopped before headed back over the coffee table.
"What if after college I take over the financial department here?" His question caused Lena to pause what she was doing and look up at him. Did this mean that Sammy-boy have some type of ambition of his own.
"You want to go to college still?" Lena asked, making sure that she heard what he was saying correctly.
"I would like to. I mean, I know the marriage and everything would happen before all of that and maybe going to college would be a bit different once more people know who I am engaged to in the circle you work with, but I would still like to pursue that as an option." Samuel, turning his head to look at the little queen who had a small smirk on her face.
"Perhaps that would be a viable option if you do to college. But, don't get too far ahead of yourself. It would probably take you at least three if not four years to graduate before that would be an option. It would also have to be cleared by my father before it could become official also."
"You mean to say though that the answer isn't a no?" He clarified, knowing that was what she meant already, but he wanted to hear her say it himself.
"No promises Sammy-boy, but I won't reject any requests. It'll just depend on what's going on during the time that you would be considering going to college. Now, no more talking. I still have a lot of work I need to do and it's already almost lunch time as it is. I don't want to be stuck here until midnight." She told him as she put her attention back onto the papers that were in front of her.
It wasn't a for certain yes, but it was an answer that left the door open for Samuel to go to college. It wasn't the first degree that he had been considering getting, but finances and math weren't too far apart, plus there was always a chance that if he could figure out how to make it work, he could barter to try and get both degrees if Lena or her father wouldn't reject to such a proposal.
Setting back at the coffee table, he glanced over at the princess. It made him wonder if she had any ambitions to go to college herself or if she was happy with all the skills she had learned already and hadn't considered going to college. He wanted to ask her this question, but knew that he would have to wait until later since he knew how busy she was with all the work she had to do and he didn't want to take her away from focusing on it.
The princess's focus was distracted from what she was working on again mere minutes after that because there was a knock on her office door that signaled that the secretary was there.
"Come in." She told them as she didn't bother looking up from what she was doing as she already knew who would be entering the office.
"Sorry to be intruding." The older man replied as he entered the office. He paused for a second as he closed the door behind when he realized that there was someone else in the office with Lena.
"He's my fiancé. You'll be properly introduced to him later." Lena told him as looked up from what she was doing.
"Oh right, sorry princess. I brought what you asked from me. Is there anything else that you need while I am here?" He asked as he walked over to the desk to hand her the black binder that he was holding. He offered Samuel a polite nod of his head as he walked past the other.
"Actually, there is. Can you find me someone who can trusted as almost one hundred percent reliable and who wouldn't attract any type of attention or make people suspicious that anything is going on to check some financial records for me?" She asked as she took the folder and set it off to the side where it seemed item that didn't need her immediate attention had been migrating to.
"Is there something in particular that you would need for them to do? I have a few people in mind who I could call in some favors from, but I would need to know if there is anything specific you need looking into in order to determine who the best choice would be." He replied as he took a small black book with an pen attached to it out of his pocket so that he could write down the relevant information. It helped him to keep organized.
"I'm not sure if there is anything specific that needs to be looked into beyond numbers not adding up. Perhaps a case inputting the numbers in correct, or someone get clever and thought that they could get away with embezzling funds."
"I see princess. I will come back tomorrow with a few names and you can see who you think would be the best fit? Of course, I will be able to vouch for them in terms of their trustworthiness and ability to get the job done." He replied writing the information down and putting the notebook back in his pants pocket.
"I don't really care who they are as long as they can out who the problem." Lena replied
