Chapter 72 A Surprise Attack
After finishing his meal, Ren Ye didn't hesitate to stray away as he quickly picked Ren Jia up and took her around the city. Although the little girl was extremely content, Ren Ye had other things in his head.
"Perhaps, I should try to seek out an artist…"
Ren Ye had not just bought a halberd but he had also bought a new identity alongside it, believing it may be of use when it comes to dealing with enemies.
Besides, he promised Ma Zheng he would recommend a good candidate to be his bodyguard.
To think one day he would resort to using the same method he had unreasonably used in his past life, he felt rather baffled. Currently what he lacked wasn't money but rather an artist that could draw a made-up image of his desired appearance.
Of course, there were plenty of them in town but does he trust them enough with his life? Perhaps not. He could have commissioned them and killed them later when he no longer needed them or didn't want to leave behind traces.
"Papa, what are you thinking?"
A soft crisp voice knocked him out of his thoughts as he lowered his confused expression upon a little girl pouting grumpily, Ren Ye's eyes twitched as a result of his thinking.
"Papa, you promised to bring me but you don't appear to be enjoying yourself," The little girl turned her head away disobediently and proceeded to provoke Ren Ye with her innocent words, "Is Mama bullying you?"
"…"
Ren Ye didn't speak as he softly patted her on the head, "Don't be ridiculous."
Ren Jia retained her unsatisfied pout as she refused to admit her mistakes, Ren Ye curled his lips at seeing this sight.
"Do you want to ride a pony?"
Ren Ye asked her all of a sudden as she suddenly raised her tiny head to look in his direction. Ren Ye pointed his hand toward a crowd which kids surrounded.
"Papa, where is the pony?"
Due to her small height, she was unable to see what her Papa was pointing to. All of a sudden, her feet felt light as Ren Ye gradually and easily took up from the ground.
Thanks to Ren Ye's extraordinary height, Ren Jia was able to see a white mare in the distance. Her eyes immediately lit up with excitement as she laid her eyes on a white pony.
"Papa, a pony!"
Ren Ye didn't speak as he exclaimed loudly inside his head, "Why is this child suddenly so heavy?"
Ren Ye placed her on the ground as he accompanied her to the crowd, Ren Jia took her Papa's hands as she quickly went along.
"One ride for 100 RMB! One ride for 100 RMB!"
The man in a horse suit loudly chanted as kids surrounded him, Ren Ye's eyes slightly twitched. He couldn't help but feel a bit amused at the sight of an actual pony in front of him.
"In all of my memories of going to amusement parks and watching movies, I have never seen an actual trainer bringing an actual pony…"
Ren Ye thought of this as he watched the horse's expression. Although he didn't speak the language of a horse, he could feel its annoyance at these kids.
"Truly this man is using his pony to make money..."
He wanted to ask the man if the pony was something he was allowed to have around the city but he didn't due to seeing his daughter's excitement.
"Papa, I want to ride!"
Ren Jia expressed her enthusiasm as she turned to look at her Papa with keen eyes, Ren Ye nodded slightly as he approached the man at the front.
"One ride, please."
Ren Ye said calmly as the man gestured for him to line up, Ren Jia was shifting nonstop in his arms as she tried to get a look at this magnificent creature.
"Papa, why do I feel like this pony detests you?"
"…"
Although he tried his best to ignore the horse's disdainful gaze toward him, Ren Jia was still able to detect its feeling toward her Papa. Ren Ye turned to look at the horse head-one.
The horse had luscious white hair and somewhat gloomy eyes as though it went through many years of torture and suffering; resembling a human. It was groomed perfectly as it appeared clean.
A saddle was equipped on its back as its legs knocked the ground whilst watching him without turnings its eyes away from him.
Why does this gaze remind you of someone?
Ren Ye shrugged and waited patiently for his turn.
After a while, it was Ren Ye's turn. He casually approached the horse and listened to the owner's instructions, hopping onto its back and with Ren Jia in the front.
"Papa! Why does it look like you have ridden a pony before?" Ren Jia was slightly nervous as she stayed close to him while also caressing the horse's soft hair.
"Heh? You could say I rode many horses when I was younger," Ren Ye said sarcastically while retaining control over the horse. The horse somewhat was unsatisfied with his words as it suddenly jolted upwards, causing fright amongst everyone and the owner.
"Sir, could you get down?" The owner suddenly asked of him.
Ren Ye was confused as he had only hopped on it, "What?"
"Sh*t!" Old Yi exclaimed loudly inside his head, causing Ren Ye to subconsciously tightened his grip on the ropes.
The horse continued to lose control as it jumped continuously and tried to break out of its chains, it neighed loudly as Ren Ye cursed inwardly.
Bang!
The robes broke loose as they dashed forward in an uncontrollable manner, Ren Ye was knocked out of his thoughts by his daughter's scream as the horse made an attempt to escape.
The owner's expression turned grave as he tried to catch up with his 'pet', "Stop it!"
Ren Ye gritted his teeth and muttered angrily, "Did you even train this horse properly?"
Due to Ren Ye's passive attitude and nature toward taming this beast, he gradually tried his best to calm it down whilst allowing it to do what it wanted to do.
That was to escape!
"Papa!"
Ren Jia's face was streaked with tears as she tried to hide in his arms, Ren Ye lowered his eyes and comforted the little girl.
"Don't worry, I got this."
The owner watched hopelessly as his horse escaped from his sight, taking the father and son away. The kids surrounding him were shocked and traumatized as they ran to their mother and father's arms.
Quickly, the security guards came over and inquired about what had happened but the owner had suddenly disappeared without leaving any traces.
On the other side, Ren Ye didn't try to stop the horse from escaping as he casually tried to remain stable while keeping his daughter safe.
He had ridden many horses in his life and therefore such an uncontrollable beast like this one was bound to be something he had experienced over.
"Papa…"
The little girl didn't dare take her face away from his arms as she called out silently, hoping to hear that her Papa was alright but Ren Ye only patted her on the head.
"Are you done having fun?"
Ren Ye suddenly mumbled coldly into the cold breeze as they had arrived somewhere away from the area, the horse stiffened slightly before coming to a halt.
"Do you want me to spank you on the head?"
Ren Ye threatened gently as the horse stopped moving and casually came to a stop by a tree, Ren Jia's body suddenly shook; believing her Papa was threatening her.
"Perhaps, you should do it," Old Yi chortled amusingly, "For someone who is hiding in animal form, you sure have the guts to roam uncontrollably."
This horse was a creature that had been contaminated with a specter's aura, Ren Ye had punctured its heart as soon as he hopped onto it.
For some reason, it hadn't lost control at seeing him at first sight. Perhaps, Ren Ye had been protected or concealed with some sort of power.
Thankfully, if it were to cause harm to him or Ren Jia. He was able to use his Teleportation to teleport both of them to safety.
"To think there were many that were hiding in the city," Ren Ye expressed his thoughts inwardly as Old Yi agreed.
"I feel this may have been a cause of concern, the city isn't as clean and innocent as it appeared. Due to the specter's aura being rather weak but yet able to enter an animal's form, it may have been trying to suck the energy out of it."
"The others weren't harmed due to them not possessing special energy whereas you are a cultivator, the owner or trainer must be thoroughly investigated though. Perhaps it may lead to something much bigger and darker."
Ren Ye nodded his head and watched the horse gradually lying down on the ground roughly, Ren Ye jumped off it in time as it stumbled down in a thud.
Ren Jia landed on the ground inside his arms.
"Papa, what is going on?"
"It is nothing," Ren Ye replied calmly as he turned to look at the other side, leaving the lifeless horse behind.
"Although I won't say it to anyone else, I believe transmigrators are the cause of all darkness," Old Yi replied frankly in a monotone voice.
"I believe so too," Ren Ye sighed as he teleported to a safer place and consoled his daughter on why he had chosen to suddenly leave the place.
"It is alright, Papa. I understand," After a couple of minutes of trying to explain the situation, Ren Jia said all of a sudden with an innocent smile.
"Papa must have been facing these things alone these past few days," Ren Jia thought earnestly as she had specifically read her Papa's tired and gloomy facial expression these days, noting the creases on his face.
"I didn't know I'd ruin today for you but I will make it up to you," Ren Ye gloomily said while expressing his regrets toward this young daughter of his.
Knowing she was young, he couldn't possibly tell him how he was feeling these past few days.
"By getting you ice cream."
The little girl's eyes lit up earnestly as she heard her Papa's words.
Perhaps, today was rather worth sacrificing for ice cream!
