Chapter 80 Singing To Sleep
"What if someone decides to investigate my background?"
Ren Ye raised an important question before he decided to click [Create].
[…]
The system didn't reply as quickly as he thought it would. Old Yi churned in as he chuckled, "You really are bullying the poor system."
"Let me tell you something about the system," Old Yi replied seriously as he raised his eyes to meet Ren Ye's serious ones.
"Everything you do, the system monitors you," Old Yi added calmly, "You don't need to worry about unnecessary things."
Ren Ye raised his eyes slightly before nodding his head, "It feels like a horror game at times, you know."
"Mm? That's not something for you to say," Old Yi chuckled as he continued to say, "Our system is to make sure this universe stays sane and uncorrupted."
"But not every system is as dutiful and compassionate as we are, some are leaning more on the chaotic side of the universe."
"We will make sure you will stay on track and keep improving until we decide you are no longer of use to us."
"Of use? What are you using us for then?" Ren Ye frowned deeply.
"Use? You are not in a position to understand," Old Yi chuckled deeply.
"You can rest assured anyone that interrogates in your privacy will be dealt with according to the system guidelines," Old Yi reassured Ren Ye.
Ren Ye had read the guidelines inside his head after he regained control over the system. In one of the guidelines, it mentioned those who abused the integrity of the owner's privacy shall be dealt through strict punishment.
That means their identities would be known to the owner.
Although Ren Ye couldn't rest assured. In the guidelines, it didn't list out the people who weren't included in the lists.
Transmigrators.
How could Ren Ye rest assured if he knew there were people like him who has a cheat system as he did? Knowing that not all of them had good intentions toward this universe.
Perhaps, he was being paranoid.
Ren Ye opened his mouth, "What if it is another transmigrator?"
After saying so, the room went quiet. Old Yi's face didn't change a bit as he continued to say gently, "I underestimated your paranoia."
"…"
"It seems you are paranoid that another transmigrator will try their best to break the bubble," Old Yi curled his lips into a smirk, "Don't worry."
"Then, you would have to deal with them by yourself."
"…"
Ren Ye didn't understand what went through Old Yi's head at times as he had the urge to knock some sense into him.
"What was all that serious talk about?" Ren Ye's face turned dark with suspicion.
"Heh? I was obviously acting," Old Yi chuckled casually, "If it was a transmigrator with a cheat that allows them to penetrate through your cover then the system can only inform you of what happens."
"We can't cover it up once it is broken through," Old Yi informed.
Ren Ye nodded his head, "I understand."
"Will the name of the exact transmigrator be revealed?"
Ren Ye asked all of a sudden.
Old Yi responded with a simple shake of his head, "If they are able to penetrate through your cover, they will most definitely be able to hide."
"This is why you should be wary of Ye Zhihao."
Ren Ye nodded his head but as soon as he opened his mouth, Old Yi chided him yet again.
"You also don't need to worry much about Ren Jia for now."
"What do you mean by that?" As soon as he brought up her name, Ren Ye's interest was intrigued as he frowned deeply. The protectiveness of a father seems to have woken up inside of him as soon as it relates to his daughter's safety.
"With the young lady's background, it is enough to shelter her from the mess you are getting yourself in," Old Yi didn't mention who it was but Ren Ye was able to tell who it was.
"You should worry more about your own safety. If you decide to rely on her for safety, it would be fine but I doubt you would get anywhere," Old Yi laughed amusingly, "A man who relies on a woman is bound to become lazy at one point."
A soft rice king you wanted to say, Ren Ye thought self-deprecatingly. If he decided to rely on Jing Xue for safety, what was the point of transmigration? He would have stayed alive and never come to this world.
There were multiple of times he could have relied on her while she was still married to the King but out of his ego, he chose to walk away and got himself into serious trouble.
In the end, did he regret it? Not one bit.
It made him become more aware of his flaws and what he needed to do to become strong. It made him aware that he deserved to be someone worthy of respect and stroked his ego.
Ren Ye's eyes hardened gradually, "I know."
For someone who is ridiculously rich way before fame, Ren Ye was sure Jing Xue wasn't ordinary but it was not his business to ask her about her family. When she feels like introducing them to him, he will ask her about them.
It feels uncomfortable for him to force himself to ask her about her personal life, feeling she deserves some respect from her.
Ren Ye also felt assured of leaving Ren Jia in Jing Xue's care due to his immense trust of her. Had it been a woman who betrayed him or someone whom he had no trust in, he would have killed her the moment his eyes laid on her.
"She can kill you if she wanted to," Old Yi joked with a strange expression. Ren Ye didn't react strongly as he simply waved his hand in a dismissive manner.
His eyes seemed to say, 'I know.'
Ren Ye stopped asking as he no longer had any questions to ask Old Yi, he raised his hand to click [Create].
[Do you wish to proceed?]
"Yes," Ren Ye calmly replied.
[Do you wish to proceed proceed?]
"…" Ren Ye's eyes waved dangerously.
[Created!]
Ren Ye felt something stuffed in his hand as he raised his hand and unfolded it, a plastic card appeared in his palm as though it had always been there.
In the card, he saw the name 'Qi Yun' clearly as he confirmed this was going to be his Identity Card for his new persona. He could now shapeshifter into his new identity whenever he felt like it.
Currently, he didn't decide to do it now as it was long past midnight and almost morning now.
He needed to sleep.
Ren Ye made his way to his bedroom after taking a brief shower, he picked up his phone to check his notification. He stumbled upon a message from Wu Qi.
'What are you doing this late at night?'
"…"
Ren Ye didn't know how to reply as he thought for more than ten seconds and calmly texted back, 'How did you know?'
Wu Qi didn't reply right back, Ren Ye assumed he had gone to bed thus he didn't bother him anymore. As he placed his phone down, the phone started ringing.
"…"
Ren Ye wanted to cry and laugh at the same time.
He checked the caller's id and discovered it was Jing Xue's again, he quickly picked up the call and overheard a childish whisper from the other side of the phone.
"Papa," Ren Jia whispered quietly.
"Mm?" Ren Ye was momentarily confused, he whispered back to her, "What are you doing this later at night? Why are you not sleeping?"
"I miss Papa very much," Ren Jia replied immaturely as Ren Ye's heart softened significantly, "Papa will come back tomorrow right."
"Yes," Ren Ye replied gently.
"Good, Mama misses you very much," Ren Jia admitted and snitched on her own mother.
Ren Ye felt the corner of his mouth twitching as he cussed himself inwardly, "What is she doing right now?"
"She is sleeping," Ren Jia skillfully turned on the camera and showed the sleeping woman on the bed.
Jing Xue was dressed in a nightgown, showing off her bare shoulders. Her face was extremely peaceful as her hands clenched repeatedly. Ren Ye squinted his eyes to inspect what she was holding.
His eyes slightly trembled after realizing she was holding one of his jackets tightly beside her.
Her eyebrows slowly became tense as though she had sensed something.
Ren Ye's heart skipped a bit as he felt his lower body begin to grow aflame, he subconsciously blushed and shook his head.
"She is sleeping," Ren Ye spoke peacefully as he said to Ren Jia, "You should go to bed too."
Ren Jia didn't reply at first before saying, "I want Papa to sing me a song."
A song? Ren Ye was momentarily speechless as he had thought he misheard, "What song?"
He doubt his voice will be able to match Jing Xue's voice but since he wanted to have his daughter sleep well. Why not try?
Ren Jia casually laid herself on the soft bed before asking her Papa to sing her all-time favorite song, "Papa, can you sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star?"
