Chapter 96 An Awkward Offer
Kang Di said with a somewhat strange expression, "I have come here to discuss something with you."
"Discuss?" Ren Ye was momentarily confused as he stopped up from his sitting posture and added, "I thought we discussed this already."
As soon as he said that, Kang Di slightly waved his hands; gesturing his wife to move away from them as it was going to be a private conversation between the both of them.
Ren Ye made sure to sweep his eyes across the room. What he found strange was that Xuan Jie hadn't appeared here, not even once during the entire ceremony.
As a legitimate wife and the mother of the current patriarch, it was absolutely inappropriate for him not to make an appearance on an extremely important day. This prompted Ren Ye to look straight into Kang Di's eyes.
"My mother has been arrested," Kang Di replied solemnly, "Since this morning."
Ren Ye felt his mouth open in shock but closed it immediately, he raised his eyebrows with surprise, "What?"
"I filed a report to them with the evidences I found," Kang Di replied with emotionless and indifferent eyes, devoid of emotions.
"Why would you do that?" Ren Ye suddenly asked, "Didn't you say you wouldn't want to accuse her in the first place?"
"I did but after much thoughts, letting her stay in the family isn't the best idea I would choose," Kang Di watched Ren Ye with striking eyes, "Especially knowing that someone outside the family already knows about the truth."
"I wouldn't consider silencing you either way considering I can see everything that you do is extremely inconsistent," Kang Di admitted truthfully from his observation.
Kang Fan chuckled silently, "You are not wrong. I must say you are smarter than I originally thought of you."
"Somewhat flattering words to come out of a whistleblower but letting her face the consequences of her actions is better than having to hide from everyone."
Kang Di lowered his head and watched his feet before curling his lips into a smile, "I made sure the case shall be concealed thoroughly."
"Mm. Aren't you afraid others will come to a realization that the Queen Dowager has been missing?"
Ren Ye expressed his thoughts as Kang Di shook his head, "I am certain that no one will come to a realization. Since my father has passed away, my mother is soon to follow him."
"It would not be a surprise to them if she decided to go into seclusion from grief after my father has passed away."
"After all, her health has been declining significantly"
Ren Ye rubbed his chin as he thought of a question, "Isn't that sending your mother to an early death?"
"Death? Is that a foreign word to us, humans?" Kang Di chuckled deeply, "Sooner or later, we will die as well. It is not sending anyone to an early death."
"Death will fall upon us sooner or later but those who have committed a crime shall be punished according to it."
Ren Ye didn't speak any more as he turned to look at the sobbing members of Kang Di's family as they kneeled onto the floor with their head bent.
"Dearest Patriarch…"
The murmurs and the cries kept getting louder and doubled as Ren Ye shook his head; shaking himself out of his own thoughts.
Ren Ye didn't want to stay here any longer as he raised his feet to step forward before having a hand placed gently on his chest, "I am not done talking to you."
Kang Di stood in front of him once more with an amicable smile on his face, "Since you have ties to my older brother."
"It would be a shame to let you off so easily."
"Ties? We only met up for a cup of afternoon tea and cookies," Ren Ye replied in a mocking tone, "I do not see what you plan to do with me whose purpose is to whistleblow everything he knows."
"You are self-aware," Kang Di chuckled deeply, "My wife is pregnant for 5 months now and we are planning to move abroad for a couple of months before she gives birth."
"I am offering you an offer to help me manage the Kang Family household," Kang Di spoke in an almost believable manner that Ren Ye's eyebrows twitched.
"What drugs are you on?" Ren Ye didn't understand what Kang Di was doing here, leaving his job for a stranger to manage. A strange he had only known for a day, "Your Excellency, I don't think it would be a great idea to let me take charge of your beloved family."
"Oh no no," Kang Di immediately shook his head with an innocent look, "I am not doing this out of spite or any hidden ulterior motives."
"Last night, my brother came to visit me for the last time and talked to me about how it would feel to take charge of family matters," Kang Di scratched his head as he let out a strange laugh, "I, of course, joked that he could be one and he suggested letting you manage."
"…"
Ren Ye stopped talking with him after a while and casually walked out the door. He didn't plan on getting his help nor becoming his scapegoat simply because he got his mother arrested and met up with his ghost brother.
Ren Ye planned to go back home now as he teleported himself to a nearby valley and casually walked over to Jing Xue's villa. He took out his phone and phoned Jing Xue.
After one ring, the phone was immediately picked up and a childish cry echoed from the other side of the phone.
"Papa!"
Ren Ye curled his lips into a fatherly smile and his tense eyebrows softened significantly, he replied, "Hello? How are you doing?"
"I am doing good, Papa. I am accompanying mother to play golf," Ren Ye heard the sounds of strong winds and laughters coming from the background as Ren Ye guessed she was out playing with her mother.
"Golf?"
Ren Ye wasn't surprised Jing Xue had money to rent out a golf court for herself and Ren Jia.
"Mama is golfing right now, Papa! Auntie Helene challenged Mama to a battle!"
"???"
Ren Ye was unable to understand what she was saying, "Auntie Helene?"
"Mama's best friend from France!"
Ren Jia replied excitedly as he could hear chuckled coming from the other side. Ren Ye pursed his lips and thought about what to say first.
"I am heading home right now. If you need anything, tell me and I will get them for you in case I pass by the grocery store," Ren Ye quickly replied back.
Ren Jia stopped talking to him as he heard a tiny shout, "Mama, Papa is stopping by the grocery! What does Mama want?"
Ren Ye was unable to hear the full content of the conversation as Ren Jia returned to him, "Mama said she is planning to do a hot pot. Can Papa buy ingredients back home?"
Ren Ye casually agreed, "Of course. Anything else?"
"And ice cream."
"…"
"Of course," Ren Ye replied with a funny expression, "Cannot forget your favorite thing in the world."
Ren Jia giggled adorably as Ren Ye hung up the call. He proceeded to phone his mother as well. After a couple of minutes of dialing, his mother finally picked up the call.
"Mother, where are you right now?"
"Hi, honey. I am with friends right now. How are you doing?" As she said that, Ren Ye heard she was sipping coffee and continuous chatters from the other side of the phone.
Ren Ye guessed she was engaged in small talks with her friends about god knows what.
"I am doing great now. Are you going to stop by?" Ren Ye went straight to the point, "I have a reserved apartment for you, Mother."
"There is really no need, son. I am doing fine on my own. I will drop by and visit my beloved granddaughter," Fa Qing laughed happily, "I bought lots of gifts and souvenirs for my adorable grandchild."
"Of course. Right now, she is with her mother," Ren Ye replied simply, not knowing the consequences that come after.
"Mother? Has my beloved grandchild's mother returned?" Fa Qing was flabbergasted.
"Uh? How do I tell her she never left?" Ren Ye thought with confusion, "I guess you could say she came back to take her back…"
"She was busy before but now she managed to get days off," Ren Ye said with a strange expression, "They are on holiday as I know of."
"Oh dear. Why didn't you tell me beforehand that my daughter in law is already here?" Fa Qing said in an annoyed tone as she continued to ask, "What is her name?"
"…"
"I think it is better if you ask her directly, mother. Jia'er doesn't like people knowing her Mama's name," Ren Ye chuckled deeply as he said, "Don't worry about it though. She has more than enough to treat herself."
"This is not a matter of treating oneself, honey. As a mother of a dense son, it is my duty to make sure the bride didn't fall into my son's tricks," Fa Qing replied in an extremely serious matter.
"…"
