Chapter 67 – Giant Bees’ Killer

Chapter 67 – Giant Bees’ Killer

The spines at their tails turned out to be reusable, not disposable as initially thought.

The giant spines, once shot out, were now eerily retracted back to their tails as if pulled by an invisible force.

During this retrieval process, the spines spun rapidly, seemingly gathering power for a more intense strike. Simultaneously, their massive wings vibrated incessantly, emitting a buzzing sound akin to an indefatigable machine tirelessly in motion.

Their rotation speed surpassed even the first time, and the time for gathering momentum was significantly reduced. Soon, the second wave of spines surged forth, forcing Athena into a desperate evasion.

She couldn't afford to merely dodge; she needed a plan to prevent their retrieval; otherwise, she would remain at a disadvantage.

Atthena eyed the spines, refusing to resign herself to fate. Between her fingers emerged an explosive ball and flame enhancer, hurled towards the towering mass across from her.

The once orderly swarm of giant bees, upon seeing what Athena had thrown, instinctively grew wary. They quickly scattered, but the projectile was swift.

To her delight, the explosive ball unleashed its formidable power successfully! Accompanied by a deafening roar, a fierce explosion ensued, as if rending the very fabric of space, illuminating everything around as bright as day.

In an instant, nearby bees lay injured and mutilated by the blast, flames raging and consuming several directly, their wings disintegrating amidst the fire as their colossal bodies plummeted to the ground, charred black.

The few remaining bees eyed Athena, a retreat evident in their movements, dragging their battered bodies away.

The intense explosion had also affected Athena, hurling her backward with a massive shockwave. As she stood up, coughing twice, dust scattered around her.

She hadn't experienced the full power of the explosive ball before, only testing it once or twice under Mu's supervision, but its magnitude now far exceeded her expectations. It seemed she had underestimated the weapon's destructive potential, initially considering it merely an ordinary explosive, now revealed to be of apocalyptic proportions.

She needed to exercise caution in its usage; otherwise, she might end up harming herself as much as her enemies.

With no time to rest, she retrieved her Moonlight Bow once more, aiming at the fleeing bees, attempting to shoot them down.

Triggering extremely low probability death state!

Athena was astonished. She had only triggered this state once before, and now it happened again. The bee she hit fell to the ground, lifeless, while the others sped up in flight.

Since she had the upper hand, she couldn't allow the bees to escape. Behind the towering mass lay a massive colony, best not to let the tiger return to the mountain.

She fired several more arrows. Despite the bees showing signs of evasion, the chances of success weren't particularly high, but each shot inflicted damage, significantly slowing their flight.

Athena seized the opportunity to pursue, switching her Moonlight Bow for the Black Abyss Axe. Though the bees flew at a considerable height, she couldn't completely parallel their flight with her jumps.

The giant bees, unable to escape, aimed their spines at Athena.

She agilely dashed towards a nearby tree, pushing off its trunk to leap into the air. Then, with another burst of strength, she landed on another, thicker branch, using it to propel herself upward, flipping in mid-air and landing above a giant bee. In mid-air, she changed her direction, wielding the reflective Black Abyss Axe in her hand, swinging with all her might towards her target!

One bee cleaved, another kicked, leaping towards another. The pace of battle was rapid, the situation ever-changing. Seeing only two giant bees remaining, they abandoned their preparations and dove straight at Athena.

Just as Athena landed from her leap, barely releasing her feet, she saw a giant bee lunging at her again. She dodged to the side, swiftly striking with her axe.

Only one remained, noticeably faster, targeted by Athena's Moonlight Bow and swiftly eradicated.

With no time for rest, Athena hastened away from this troubled place at the fastest speed possible. The explosion's thunderous roar moments ago had alerted monsters in the vicinity and caught the attention of people in the distance, her marker on the map shining brightly.

Whether the swarm of giant bees would pursue again was uncertain; players couldn't kill her, but their options were limited.

The markers on the map kept changing, with her own representation glowing even brighter after the recent battle, elevating her ranking once again.

Sixth place, Big Dream!

Not only were others approaching, but even two from the top 10 were closing in on her position.

The once dark forest now blazed brilliantly, illuminated by the fires consuming the trees in every direction.

This was precisely what the system had previously introduced: the Flame Enhancer, a necessary tool for setting mountains ablaze. Little had she expected to be setting one ablaze herself someday.

With nowhere to hide and her position marked, finding her would be effortless for her adversaries, even with evasion skills.

Her immediate objective was to put distance between herself and this place, find a spot to recuperate, then locate a defensible position.

Athena's figure moved through the night like a ghost, undeterred by visibility constraints, running at her maximum speed.

Several consecutive battles and prolonged running had left her leg muscles sore, exacerbated by the strain from her earlier skill usage.

Mikmik, at this moment, simply wished to curl up somewhere inconspicuous like an unnoticed cat. It clung to Athena's shoulder, its claws gripping her clothing to prevent itself from being jostled by her vigorous movements.

Its emerald green eyes, however, missed nothing in their surroundings, perceiving all movements as sluggish.

Upon Athena's deliberate search, she discovered a steep incline in this terrain-variable forest, sprinting up it at top speed.

The steepness almost caused her to tumble down, her hands clutching onto a rock, her arms exerting force to propel her upward, successfully reaching the summit.

Only the quiet rustle of the wind and the vast expanse of darkness surrounded her, concealing the lurking dangers. Yet, in this silence, danger seemed more ominous.

Upon reaching the elevated ground, Mikmik had already leapt from her shoulder, patrolling the area.

Though relatively safe here, Athena finally had a moment to catch her breath. Her face was pale, sweat dripping from her body, and her legs throbbing in pain.

To worsen matters, a long gash can be seen her side, bleeding profusely from the sprint, soaking her clothes red around the wound.

Despite her attempts to evade at maximum speed earlier, the relentless barrage of projectile attacks from bees had still managed to graze her, leaving behind a deep cut.
