Chapter 30
Chapter 30
Its bad enough that I dumped my ex-fianc right before we were supposed to eat, but now something even more ridiculous has happened.
[Goddess of Destiny wonders how you will cope].
The eyes of all the students around us, not just the constellations, were on us.
Hmph. I wont accept your glovesDuel on your ownWhy should I deal with you?
Honestly, I have nothing to gain by dueling with Ogtin.
Even if I beat him, Ogtin is a mid-tier character at best.
Its not like hes going to be too hard to beat, but even so, theres no reason to take him on.
Besides, theres nothing to lose by avoiding this duel in the first place.
Surely refusing this will make me look bad around here.
But since, Im already being treated like an idiot and bullied.
It doesnt matter if the image falls to the ground as long as Im crawling on it.
The bottom line is that I have nothing to gain by winning and nothing to lose by not winning.
So theres no reason for me to take it.
Just as Im about to turn it down.
[Emergency Quest Occurs! Ogtins Duel!]
[Description:The in-game extra Ogtin has challenged you to a duel. However, if you do not accept the duel, you may receive a death flag. Do your best to accept the duel].
[Reward: 1,000 points for winning].
Actually, I dont f*cking like Ogtin.
Everything he did, hed complain to me about. He still does.
He challenges me to a duel because he doesnt like that Im talking to Eileen, the so-called Goddess of the Royal Academy.
Hes a total s**mbag.
A b*stard like that needs a good beating to wake up.
As I pick up Ogtins gloves, the students in the canteen are stunned.
[Goddess of Destiny is surprised].
Even Constellation is a little surprised. Unlike them, though, Eileen looks at me with concern.
Ogtin arches an eyebrow and speaks in a mocking tone.
Im surprised. I thought you werent going to accept a duel like you did in the first ter-.
Slap!
Before he could finish his sentence, the glove I threw landed in his face.
Ah! So sorry. I was trying to give you your glove back, and didnt realise you were so incompetent that you wouldnt be able to catch it.
His face flushed red as I mocked him. He took a long breath as he tries to calm down.
..Now is the only time you can be insolent. The duel will be in a weeks time, after school, at the training grounds. On that day, well each say what we want for victory.
No. I dont want anything from you.
But even as the words came to my mouth, I realized they didnt mean anything, so I gestured with my hand for him with Shuu! Shuu to make him annoyed.
Seeing this, Ogtin gritted his teeth quickly before turning his head.
Well, at least youve got a good grip on control.
With that, Ogtin left the canteen in a huff.
***
After my triumphant verbal battle with Ogtin, it wasnt long before food was served.
I went to pick up my ramen noodles with excitement.
Woah. Ramen is really out of this world.
I was actually a little anxious that it might not be the ramen I know, but from the look and smell, its definitely Korean-style ramen. Theres even kimchi.
Its just full of flavor.
So I take the ramen and set it down on the table, and Eileen looks at me, wide-eyed.
You! Are you okay, Kane?
Huh? You mean the duel?
At my words, Eileen shakes her head.
What are you talking about then?
When I didnt understand, the constellation sent me a message expressing concern.
[Goddess of Destiny asks if youre really going to eat that].
Why! Whats wrong with ramen?!
I dont know how ramen is treated in the other world, but in Korea, its a staple food.
Anyone who denies that must have a strange tongue.
As I was muttering, Eileen spoke up with a serious face.
Ka, Kane, can you eat that ramen? I heard its very spicy, and the side dishes are famously spicy.
Oh.
When Constellation and Eileen asked me if I was doing that, was that your concern?
Obviously, people in the games world would think ramen and kimchi were spicy.
People here eat a lot of different foods than Koreans, so its only natural. Of course, Im on Kanes body, so it must be very spicy.
But what can I do? Honestly, who wouldnt want to eat ramen when they see it?
Nodding at her concern, then, picking up my chopsticks and the ramen.
When the Kersey ate and cried. Was this how it felt?
Of course, Im not crying now, but Im overwhelmed with emotion. Seeing me like that, Eileen looks at me with a curious look in her eyes.
Hmm? Does she want a bite?
Do you want a bite?
..Yes.
Still, her conscience pricked. I took a bite and Eileen gave me a sorry look.
I scooped some onto the plate in front of me and handed it to her with chopsticks.
Eileen sweeps a strand of hair behind her ear, curls it up with her fork, and eats it while blowing on it.
-Fuu-Fuu.
A second passed after eating.
?! eww! oops! ah! Ooh!!
Her face turns redder than an apple. Drops of cold sweat trickle down her forehead. She lets out a strange, inhuman noise.
So, this is how beautiful people react when they eat spicy things.
Eileens eyes widen as she sees me casually eating my ramen.
- Ew! Ew! Moo, moo, moo, water!
The ramen is very spicy, and she urgently asks for water and slaps my chest.
Ouch, that really hurts!
Not wanting to get hit anymore, I quickly grabbed some water and handed it to her.
-Gulp! Gulp!
She drains the water in one go and looks at me in surprise.
Heythat. Isnt it spicy?
Just a bit, one bite.
A bite?
She tilted her head to one side, not understanding what it meant.
Oh. Nothing really, kids who take a bite out of someone elses food are usually called bite-worms.
What?!!
Eileen looks dumbfounded for a moment after hearing my explanation, but it doesnt take long for her to wriggle her body.
Urggg!
..Shes quite fun to tease, isnt she?
Somehow, I felt like shed get along well with Kersey.
So I continued to eat, adding dill bit by bit, figuring that now was better than being awkward with Eileen.
***
After finishing my meal, I arrived at the afternoon magic lecture.
Good luck with the lecture, Cya then, worm!
Ugh! Ill kill you!
I mocked her calling worm, and she finally exploded. She was so angry, her face turned red, and an aura emanated from her body.
Damnit. Lets run!
I stumbled back into the classroom, realizing that if I stayed still, Id get my arse handed to me, and then I sat down in an empty seat, pretending to be relaxed again.
But then I realised they were all looking at me strangely.
I looked around and saw that all the students in the classroom were looking at me like, Why are you here?;
What, is that reaction unavoidable?
In all of Davids history, there hasnt been a single child who has learned magic. So, from their point of view, its only natural that I, a David child, take a magic lecture unexpectedly.
Well, I have to take that into account.
To them, its no different than someone who hasnt even seen a book saying hes going to write a novel.
So, a few minutes after I arrived, a female professor walked in from the front door.
Yes. Hello, everyone. Im Shion, your magic professor. Hmm. I see a lot of familiar faces here, but there are also quite a few people I havent seen before.
Saying that, Shion looked around and took attendance. It wasnt long before my turn came.
Uh, Kane?
Yeah.
I answered by name, and her eyes widened at first, as if she didnt know I was going to be taking a magic lecture. But like any good professor, she casually started calling the next name.
When the roll call was complete, Shion continued.
Well, since today is the first lecture and some of you are new to the class, Im going to give you the basics of magic, and then well do one practice and call it a day.
With that said, Shion writes Magic Power on the blackboard in large letters.
Magic power, as you all know, is a power that mages mainly possess, and it is with this power that they manifest their magic.
But just because you have magic power doesnt mean you can manifest magic. You have to imagine it before you cast it, and you have to channel the energy into a circuit so that it flows through the spell and doesnt get stuck at the end.
Hmmm. I see.
Shions explanation explained why I hadnt been able to cast the spell until now.
So far, I havent failed to flow magic into the circuit.
The problem is, despite my best efforts to imagine the games lowest-level magic, nothing happens, except that a formula appears that looks awkward to anyone who looks at it.
So how do I make sure the spell doesnt mess up?
As if reading my mind, Shion replied.
Then there must be some students in the magic class who are thinking, How do I keep the formula from getting tangled? There are many ways to do it, but the simplest way is to imprint the magic formula in the book in your head.
Then, as you chant, your brain will naturally and subconsciously remember the formula.
Hearing that, first-time magic students, including me, were dumbfounded.
Really. This is a magic class, right?
If you want to use magic, you just need to memorize the formula and then anyone can use it.
Whats the difference?
In the end, its just like telling me to memorize the spells in a book.
Well, when you think about it, theres no better way to learn than by playing.
But its so different from what I expected.
I honestly thought it would be something plausible, but who would have thought they would explain it like a maths class back on Earth, telling you to memorize formulas.
Just like that, while I was dumbfounded inside. The woman with the long silver hair raises her hand and questions Shion.
So, can anyone use the Top Tier Magic as long as they memorize the spell?
Hmm. Well, basically, magic gets more complicated as you go up in rank, and the formula for the highest ranked magic is so complicated that its impossible to memorise it, so it usually takes several people to cast it without it messing up.
Shion smirked and continued.
Still, even assuming you can memorise it, the Top Tier Magic can only be used if its supported by magic power. In fact, even with the combined magical power of everyone here, including me, youll only be able to use the high-level magic once.
When Shion finished speaking, all of the students gulped down their dry saliva.
They hadnt realised that a Top Tier Magic would cost that much magic power.
After hearing this explained in such detail, I now realize just how monstrous Anje really is.
Of course, divine arts and magic are strictly different, but the amount of energy consumed by a Top Tier Magic should be similar.
In other words. Considering that she casually poured the highest level of Divine Recovery into me, its like she has an ocean of divinity inside her.
As if to interrupt my reassessment of Anje, Professor Shion erases the magic on the board and says.
Then well be practising the lowest level of magic, so please come forward one by one as your names are called.
T/L : Im getting so fed up with authors typos, Its so hard to TL. Anyway, Ill post another chapter later.
