Awakened: Evolving to Godhood

Chapter 4: The way it all began

Chapter 4: The way it all began

Alexander landed on the depth of the hole with a dull thud, hitting his head and losing his consciousness.

The very next second, a deep voice sounded in the woods, one full of arrogance and indifference.

“Serves him right for breaking the laws of the magicians.”

Elliot turned around to look at the source of the voice, only to see a young man with a tall figure and a head full of curly brown hair and eyes of the same color looking at him with a cold gaze and an expressionless face while standing with his back on the trees.

“Silas?!” Elliot stammered in confusion as he looked at the strongest student of the magic school in front of him in a daze.

Never in a million years would he have thought that Silas would help him. He found it hard to believe that someone who has never interfered with his life for more than six years would suddenly save him from the hands of an awakened magician.

Awakened Magician is a term used for magicians who can contain magic energy in their bodies and also possess an ability.

“Hmm? What is it?”

Silas said those words without an ounce of change in his expression. His eyes remained cold and his face stiff and neutral.

“Thanks for saving my life,” Elliot said as he stood up from the ground and patted his pants and shoulder to dust himself off.

Silas was his childhood friend and but they parted ways after middle school as he grew up to become a talented youngster and the strongest magician of this magic school, while Elliot happened to be the weakest magician.

In the past six years, from middle to high school, he always remained neutral in matters concerning Elliot, never interfering with his life.

Even when Elliot being ganged up on by a bunch of students, Silas did nothing in the past to help him.

But this time, he saved him for some reason.

Of course, this came as a surprise to Elliot!

“Scram before his friends comes for you. I don’t wanna save your weak ass once again,” Silas said, looking at him with an indifferent expression.

As soon as those words left his mouth, Elliot turned to leave in silence.

A few moments later, once Silas has turned around to walk back to the academy and spend the last day of his school life with his friends and best buddies, Elliot’s shout reached his ears.

“Thanks for the heads up.”

Silas shook his head, thinking in his head that the only reason he helped him was to repay the favor. There were definitely no feelings involved as he has not been friends with him for years and won’t be in the future either.

Elliot stepped deeper into the forest, passing through the path strewn with bushes and trees before stepping on the big rocks placed in the middle of a stream to cross to the other side, reaching a place only half a kilometer away from his home.

Although today was the big graduation day, the weakest magician didn’t bother to stay at school like the rest of the magicians graduating from the magic school this year for two reasons.

First off, he wanted to avoid Cain and his group of friends in any way possible.

“Secondly, no magician would like to hang out with me. Ugh, it sucks to be weak.”

In the world of magicians, strength determined a person’s social standing. It’s because the strong discriminate against magicians with little to no magic energy or weak abilities. They were also insignificant and dispensable in the eyes of the Magician Association.

This society came into being ninety years ago.

Ninety years ago, calamity descended upon Earth, one in which many people lost their lives. Unknown spatial tunnels suddenly formed at different points on the Earth. These tunnels connected Earth to the world of monsters, humanity’s worst nightmare.

From these spatial tunnels, a blessing seeped into Earth. It is known as magic energy, a unique source of energy with endless advantages.

But the blessing came along with a devastating misfortune.

From these spatial tunnels emerged hideous-looking creatures with claws and teeth stronger than metal, massive tails, and thick hides which even bullets couldn’t damage.

These creatures entered Earth after making their way out of the spatial tunnels and then spread out in all directions, attacking any life form in their sight, be it animal or human. They attacked indiscriminately, separating their victims into two pieces with a snap of their jaw, smashing them into a meat paste with their tail, and ripping them apart with their claws.

Humanity fought back with all they had to stop the monsters from destroying their worlds.

However, the monster’s hides happened to be so thick and their defense so ferocious that most modern weapons simply didn’t work against them. Guns were useless against them, but bombs worked. Of course, even that was useless against monsters that were fast enough to outrun an explosion or strong enough to endure one.

Humanity was being pushed back under the assault of monsters when in those days, peoples with supernatural powers suddenly appeared. They were called magicians, owners of supernatural powers that were inaccessible to ordinary inhabitants of the Earth.

Under the might of their supernatural abilities, monsters fell to the ground as easily as a hot knife passing through butter.

After the appearance of magicians, it didn’t take long for the tide of battle to shift in humanity’s favor, and they carved a path with their abilities, killing tens of thousands of monsters, opening the way to the spatial tunnels near their bases.

For the very first time in history, humans entered the spatial tunnels that have opened up in mountains, oceans, destroyed cities, and similar areas.

They found out that the spatial tunnels connected to an entirely different world, which was inhabited by monsters far terrifying than the ones who invaded Earth.

This world was named Xavier!
