Chapter 17
C17 – Battle Between Grandmasters!
Someone was attempting to enter the Garden Residence when an investigator stopped them.
“Sorry, ma’am, the Garden Residence is currently on lockdown. You’ll need to wait a bit before going in.”
“What’s going on inside? I’ve got soup simmering at home. Can’t you let me through?”
The elegant woman was adamant about getting back into the complex.
The guard spoke with grave seriousness, “A Grandmaster-level fugitive is hiding out in the complex, capable of wreaking havoc at any moment. Are you sure you want to risk it?”
“A Grandmaster-level fugitive?”
The word ‘Grandmaster’ visibly shook her. Her eyes widened with terror, the fear nearly paralyzing.
“Fine, I’ll stay out of the complex.”
How could she even consider going back? A Grandmaster-level criminal was on the loose inside!
Grandmasters were the stuff of legends. She’d only ever caught glimpses of such figures on television, revered by all.
A single Grandmaster could match the might of an entire division!
Who in their right mind would confront such a formidable being?
“Pei Sheng’s presence is unmistakable here. Qian, cover me. I’m going in to flush him out.”
“Take care, this man has taken down three Grandmasters already. Are you up to the task?”
“He’s been severely wounded from our recent chase. At best, he’s down to half his combat strength. Surely I can handle Pei Sheng at fifty percent?”
Inspector Bian, cigar clenched between his teeth and coat draped over his shoulders, strode into the fray.
Meanwhile, Pei Yu deftly scaled the complex’s perimeter wall. Unwilling to waste ten minutes reaching the main gate, he chose this shortcut instead.
For Pei Yu, now boasting an impressive combat value and enhanced agility, a two-meter wall was child’s play. Climbing rooftops and vaulting walls were within his easy reach.
If he wished, he could leap from a ten-story building unscathed.
Such was the prowess of a Grandmaster.
As Pei Yu made his way through the complex, he noted the eerie silence where there was once vibrancy.
The air was thick with tension and the palpable threat of impending danger.
“Am I just overthinking this?”
He sensed something was off but didn’t dwell on it.
Could there be a grandmaster in the Garden Residence?
As this thought crossed Pei Yu’s mind, a figure plummeted from the sky, landing right in front of him.
The ground split open, forming a large crater. The man, in his fifties and chomping on a cigar, kicked up a dust storm upon impact. Cracks spread from the point of landing like a spider web, reaching Pei Yu’s feet.
“Are you with the Investigation Bureau?” Pei Yu recognized the badge on the man’s shoulder and realized he was indeed an investigator.
And clearly, he was no low-ranking officer!
“Inspector Bian, did you really think you’d beat me today?”
As Pei Yu moved to assess Bian Tong’s injuries, another disheveled figure dropped from above. Landing next to Bian Tong with the agility of a monkey, the newcomer caused the ground to fracture even further!
Shards of rock struck Pei Yu’s face, but it was nothing serious.
“Get backup, now!”
Bian Tong, pointing with a blood-stained finger, urged Pei Yu to make a quick escape.
He could never have imagined that Pei Sheng, who had been gravely injured just days before, would have made such a swift recovery. Pei Sheng had regained all his combat power and had effortlessly overpowered him.
With his hair in disarray and a dark look on his face, Pei Sheng let out a laugh. Fixing his gaze on Pei Yu, he declared, “You’re not getting away today!”
