Chapter 4
C4 – Protect Your Sister!
Pei Yu was seething with anger, yet after some contemplation, he chose to let it go. He resolved to leave the Ke household and care for his ailing sister.
He had made a vow upon joining the Ke family that he would harbor no grievances against them and would heed his wife’s every command.
Had it not been for the financial aid from Ke Lianxi three years prior, his sister would have perished.
Thus, to honor the debt of gratitude for Ke Lianxi’s life-saving generosity, Pei Yu had been biting his tongue. Even when the Ke family hurled insults his way, he never fought back.
Just then, the doorbell echoed through the house.
“I’ll check who it is.”
Mrs. Qian quickly excused herself from the uncomfortable scene.
Upon opening the door, she was greeted by a little girl with a ponytail, dressed in a pleated skirt and a gray hoodie. The girl looked up with large, doleful eyes that shimmered with vulnerability, her pale face evoking sympathy.
“Yuner,” Mrs. Qian murmured, her brow furrowing at the sight of Pei Yuner.
The frail child before her was Pei Yu’s sister, Pei Yuner, who needed the Ke family’s permission to visit.
“Just a moment, I’ll inform them,” Mrs. Qian said, about to relay the message, when Ke Shuyi, the Ke family’s young master, returned home.
Spotting Pei Yuner at the doorstep, he snapped, “No need to tell anyone. Just send her away. The Ke family doesn’t entertain beggars.”
Ke Shuyi, Ke Lianxi’s brother, had little regard for Pei Yu, and even less for his sister.
Knowing Ke Shuyi’s temper all too well, Mrs. Qian remained silent. Despite her sympathy for Pei Yuner, she had no choice but to obey.
She closed the door without another word.
“Shuyi, you’re back. Hungry? Come, have something to eat,” Fei Ning called out, her voice warm with maternal concern as Ke Shuyi approached with a smile.
“Who was that outside just now?” Ke Huayuan inquired of Mrs. Qian, who seemed at a loss for words. Ke Shuyi responded dismissively, “She’s just a little beggar. She came begging at the Ke household for money.”
No sooner had he spoken than the doorbell chimed once more.
A faint voice carried through. Pei Yu frowned upon hearing it.
“These beggars are such a nuisance. I’ve sent her away. Mom, Dad, please go ahead and start dinner without me.”
Ke Shuyi left the room, clearly irritated.
Shortly after his departure, Pei Yu heard the cry of Pei Yuner.
“Brother, I want to see you.”
Recognizing the familiar voice, Pei Yu immediately set down his chopsticks and hurried outside.
It was his sister, the one he had always relied on!
Stepping outside, Pei Yu was met with the sight of Ke Shuyi clutching Pei Yuner’s neck.
“Listen here, girl, don’t you dare come back to the Ke family. Your brother is worthless, and so are you. You have no business setting foot in this house!”
Fury ignited within Pei Yu at the scene before him.
“Release her!”
He advanced, fist raised, ready to strike Ke Shuyi.
How dare Ke Shuyi lay a hand on his sister?
As Ke Shuyi turned, intent on retaliating, Pei Yu’s fist connected with his face.
The punch packed over a thousand kilograms of force, sending Ke Shuyi tumbling to the ground in a heartbeat.
Slamming into the wall, Ke Shuyi was left reeling, his head spinning and body aching all over.
“You dare to strike my sister? You’re done for!”
Pei Yu charged, fists flying as he pummeled Ke Shuyi with relentless fury.
