Chapter 813 No Signs
The cave shimmered with a large amount of energy. Lee Seng and Calis felt it radiating off the walls. The cavern was a natural point of energy with not that much in it. Lee Seng sighed as they stepped out of it. He was insistent on looking around and Calis had no choice but to follow him.
Lee Seng kept quiet for most of the duration. He saw different underwater creatures going about their day. Lee Seng beamed with excitement whenever he saw these creatures.
'I don't think I would've ever guessed a Savior to be this curious about creatures…' Calis thought as they landed on the bottom of the canyon. The walls stretched upwards for miles and Lee Seng's eyes burned with happiness.
"Another one!" Lee Seng pointed. It was a large seahorse. He had seen a couple of them and his eyes were fully lit with joy. "This one's a lighter pattern than the rest… The lack of light made it this way?"
The ground shook, scaring the large sea horse and all other creatures. They swam or hid away while Lee Seng looked around.
"It's dangerous to even be here right now." Calis sighed. "We should've gone back to the town way before you decided to descend to the bottom of the canyons. There's nothing here for us. Let's go back." He was annoyed with the Savior. The rumbling stopped and Lee Seng continued forward, following the path of the canyon. Calis groaned and followed after. "Did you hear what I said? There's nothing here to see! Let's just go back!"
Calis was angrier now. He had tried to be patient, but Lee Seng wasn't listening to him. He didn't even respond to Calis at all! Lee Seng would make comments about things he saw and continue on like nothing happened.
'Why isn't he listening to me?' Calis thought in frustration. 'I'm only stating what's true!' Calis stopped and watched Lee Seng trail onwards.
"I'm not going any further with you. I'll leave you down here!" Calis threatened. Lee Seng stopped and turned. Calis smirked. He had finally got Lee Seng to listen.
"Go ahead." Lee Seng answered, plainly. "Who said I needed an escort?" Lee Seng's ice cold words pierced Calis's irritated skin. Calis pushed his anger away as he narrowed his eyes at the Golden Fox Spirit. "You were the one that decided to come along. No one asked you to come and save me or my brother. Who's in danger?" Lee Seng looked around. "No one."
"You shouldn't be down here, Savior…" Calis spoke through his teeth. "It's dangerous. The monsters down here could easily be A-rank! Not to mention, the disease that afflicted those who wandered too far! I thought you said you were only here to help. You can help at the Temple!" Lee Seng sighed and shook his head.
"He doesn't understand." Lee Seng clicked his tongue. "Leader Calis, I do not need a babysitter. I especially don't need anyone to tell me it's dangerous. I know it's dangerous. I'm simply doing my job. When my brother returns to the same plane of existence, we'll go back together. Until then, I will do as I please."
"You would break rules that are meant to protect everyone?" Calis scoffed. "You should know your pl—" It was a cold flash. Lee Seng was instantly in front of Calis and his hand was billowing with an intense energy.
"I've… been trying to be more patient since you've lost your memories, Calis." Lee Seng whispered. "Because you're… not entirely you, let me remind you, Squadron Leader that I'm the impatient one out of the two of us. If you want to continue to do 'what's right,' then leave me alone." The energy swirled and a large portal to the Merfolk village appeared. Calis's eyes widened. "Go. I'll save you a trip."
"I'm leagues stronger than you, Savior. If I wanted to, I could kill you where you stand." Calis threatened. Lee Seng smiled and lowered his hand. He turned halfway and cocked his head at Calis.
"I'm sure you could, Cap'n." Lee Seng waved goodbye. "Go through the portal if you want to return. Report me and my brother if you want to. I'm not the one who decided to come down here and be a law abiding soldier. I'm a Savior looking for the disease. Leave me to that."
Calis watched Lee Seng walk deeper into the canyons. He squeezed his fist as he looked at the portal. There was something about that attitude that stuck out to him.
'He's rude.' Calis thought. 'Why would I ever befriend someone like that?' Calis turned to look at the portal. The Merfolk village was quiet. People spent their time inside, cooped up. There were very few soldiers going about and those that passed, glancing at the strange portal. They saw Calis standing there and waved at him before continuing on.
'It's not my problem.' Calis thought. He started towards the portal when an auditory hallucination occurred.
"I've been assigned to accompany you into the canyons." Calis spoke.
"Really?" Keng asked. "I don't need you to take me down there. I can handle myself."
"I'm following orders."
"You follow orders a lot. Tell me, Calis, why don't you follow my orders? It could be much more fun than what you're doing."
"Don't push it, Keng. I'm simply trying to work with you. That's all."
"Aww, after all we've been through? You don't want to ease a man's heart after all that heartbreak and destruction?" There was a pain in Keng's voice. Calis shook the auditory hallucination off.
'What was that?' Calis thought. He looked to Lee Seng and saw his silhouette moving further away. He sighed and moved past the portal. 'I can't leave him down here. He might get lost and not find his way back.' The portal fizzled out and Calis swam faster to catch up.
Lee Seng hummed one of the many random tunes in his head while starlight billowed out of him. Something within him was telling him he was close to finding the disease. He stopped and looked up at the canyon wall. There were weird marks on the wall.
'What's this all about?' Lee Seng asked himself. The corner of his eyes caught Calis coming. He sighed and continued on. 'I guess he isn't going.' Lee Seng watched the marks on the wall grow deeper. Lee Seng watched the markings grow deeper. He stopped when they went more than six inches or so into the walls.
"What the hell is this?" Lee Seng whispered. He stepped over and lowered himself. He peered into the slit and watched something move. "What's that?" He turned right and before he knew it, he was matching the speed of the thing in the wall.
"Savior! What're you doing?" Calis shouted. He chased after the Fox, watching Lee Seng quickly gain speed. "What happened to him? Why's he in a rush?" Calis swam faster, watching Lee Seng gradually gain speed, keeping at the edge of his sight.
Lee Seng jumped on rocks and landed without fail as he followed the strange thing in the wall. It was running away from him. It pulled further into the wall as Lee Seng followed the curve. A large roar shook the waters. A large sea monster flew out of the ground, eating Lee Seng whole.
"Savior!" Calis came to a stop. "What's a Nyre doing here?"
[Nyre: A predator fish that will eat anything in its way. Usually found in the southern Sea floors where there's plenty of room to grow.]
Calis gritted his teeth as he pulled the glaive out.
"I got to get the Savior out of there somehow!" Calis whispered. The Nyre shrieked as it opened its jaws. Light exploded out of its mouth and eyes, before completely exploding into pieces.
[A Nyre has been slain! A boosted 4550 souls have been added! 4,825/1,000,000]
Lee Seng blinked forward, following the curve to its entirety. A large hole appeared in the side of the wall as the last remnants of a strange, milky creature flew into the darkness. Lee Seng slowly scanned the area, sending out another blip of gravity outwards. The map began to fill in his head as large spikes flew out at him.
"Watch out!" Calis shouted. Lee Seng looked up as six humanoid creatures popped up in his head. A loud crash of the spikes slammed against hte ground, covering Lee Seng up in smoke. Calis cursed in Merfolk as he released the glaive and replaced it with the trident. Shadow energy wrapped around Calis as he shot straight for one of the humanoid creatures.
The trident billowed in shadow energy, piercing its target - a Fallen. Calis pulled the trident out and turned as a Fallen turned its large contraption onto Calis. A large spike flew out at Calis, who pointed his trident at the spike. Black energy shot outwards, shattering the spike into splinters and destroying another Fallen.
"GRA!" A fallen screamed. Calis turned and watched as a Fallen's head ripped off. A fiery black wisp disappeared and another fallen screamed as Lee Seng ripped its head apart. The two last fallen turned and ran for their lives. Lee Seng lifted his hand and fired a beam of light at it. The fallen slammed into the canyon wall while the other continued onwards.
Calis fired four shadow bolts at it, watching the fallen instantly die to the first bolt.
[6 Fallen have been slain! A boosted 800 souls have been added! 5,625/1,000,000]
