Chapter 8
C8 – Fighting
To him, it was a treasure! Two barrels of Demonic Beast blood were as valuable as six Profound Qi Pills.
This was the finest resource the Chu Family had generously provided him during his time of greatest need.
Chu Yangxiang quickly disposed of the Beast Blood that had absorbed all its energy. After thoroughly cleaning the wooden barrels, he delivered them to the Chu Family’s slaughterhouse.
The slaughterhouse staff, who held low positions and depended on the grueling task of slaughtering Demonic Beasts for their livelihood, were particularly fond of him when they saw that Chu Yangxiang had already cleaned the barrels.
The head of the slaughterhouse, looking at Chu Yangxiang, said, “Kid, whenever you need Beast Blood, it’s yours from now on.”
The slaughterhouse workers all smiled. They were spared the task of dumping the blood and scrubbing the barrels, which made them quite happy.
Chu Yangxiang was overjoyed as well. He had secured a steady source of energy, which lightened his heart as he made his way to the Training Hall in the Chu Family Courtyard.
Upon Chu Yangxiang’s arrival at the Training Hall, over a thousand individuals were standing in formation, silently awaiting the Fourth Elder’s instruction for the day’s lesson.
Curious glances were cast toward Chu Yangxiang as everyone was eager to understand how he managed to defeat Chu Mingxiang, a Profound Warrior Two-star.
“I heard Chu Huixiang and Chu Mingxiang both lost to him. That can’t be true, can it? He looks so frail!”
“So many people are saying it, it can’t be a lie. It has to be true.”
“I’ve heard he possesses a unique ability.”
The murmuring ceased only with the arrival of the Fourth Elder.
Known as the Thunderbolt Wild, the Fourth Elder was a formidable and robust man, one of the Chu Family’s finest warriors, and a Four-star Martial Master.
As the Fourth Elder appeared, all eyes were drawn to him.
He surveyed the well-organized ranks with approval; these were the Chu Family’s elite, the future mainstays of the family.
“Today, I will be teaching you the fundamentals. Our clan’s South Bear Fist is a martial art passed down from the first Zhenhai Marquis of our family,” he began.
“Our ancestor used this technique to become a renowned general in the Nine States Empire. He was invincible on the battlefield. For his service in defending the empire’s frontiers, the emperor bestowed upon him the title of Zhenhai Marquis.”
Upon hearing this, excitement surged across the faces of all the Martial Cultivators. This was a source of pride for the entire Chu Family.
They, too, aspired to add to the Chu Family’s glory.
“The South Bear Fist cultivation method is comprised of three techniques: Bear Tackle, Tiger Punch, and Eagle Strike.”
“Bear Tackle is a body-strengthening technique that works every part of the physique. Tiger Punch is designed to bolster one’s presence, while Eagle Strike focuses on rapid movement.”
Without delay, The Fourth Elder demonstrated the Bear Tackle. He produced a chestnut wood stick as thick as a human thigh—a common training tool for the Chu Family disciples.
With a swift motion, The Fourth Elder advanced, channeling his strength into his right arm and swinging with force!
His arm, akin to an iron bar, struck the stick with such force that it snapped in two and was sent flying.
Chu Yangxiang drew in a sharp breath.
The Fourth Elder then reiterated the essential points of the Bear Tackle, Tiger Punch, and Eagle Strike to Chu Yangxiang.
Chu Yangxiang’s eyes sparkled with determination. These training methods were clearly several levels above the ones he had practiced the previous night. Even though they were part of a Yellow Rank Cultivation Skill, they were the culmination of countless individuals’ dedication and effort.
Chu Yangxiang then charged into the sandbag formation, commencing his practice of the Bear Tackle. He moved six sandbags, simulating an attack from six adversaries at once.
The bags pounded against Chu Yangxiang’s body, honing his physical resilience.
Onlookers gazed at Chu Yangxiang with a mix of admiration and concern. His talent was undeniable, his work ethic impressive, but his forceful nature had made him many foes. He was bound to face a future rife with challenges and conflicts.
Just yesterday, he had disabled Chu Huixiang’s hands. If Chu Huixiang’s brother and father were to simply let this slide, it would be astonishing indeed.
Meanwhile, at the site designated for task assignments within the medicinal garden, only three individuals remained: Chu Huixiang’s brother Chu Guangxiang, Chu Tianwen, and his wife, Hu Yewan.
Chu Tianwen was aware that Chu Guangxiang’s reluctance to assign him a task stemmed from the incident where his son had severely beaten Chu Guangxiang’s sibling. Yet, Chu Guangxiang was oblivious to the fact that Chu Huixiang and his cohorts had nearly taken his son’s life.
Chu Guangxiang was exacting his deliberate revenge without any reservations.
Faced with this retaliation, Chu Tianwen couldn’t just walk away. His rice jar was empty, and he depended on today’s wages to buy rice for his family’s meal. With no choice, he steeled himself and approached, “Counselor, please assign us some work.”
Chu Guangxiang looked at Chu Tianwen and his wife, feeling a deep sigh well up within him. They were the most ordinary members on the periphery of the Chu Family. As a Profound Warrior Five-star, his status dictated that he shouldn’t trouble them. Yet, the memory of his brother’s nearly crippled hands and the family’s indifference erased any sympathy he might have felt.
“There’s no work for you today. You can go back,” Chu Guangxiang stated coolly.
A shiver ran through Chu Tianwen. No work meant his family would go hungry. Despite his pride, he was forced to humble himself. “Counselor, please, we need work.”
Chu Guangxiang gave a faint smile. “There is one job, but it’s quite strenuous. It might not be suitable for you.” He gestured toward the land at the base of the mountain.
Chu Tianwen’s eyes fixed on the purple-red soil at the mountain’s foot, the ideal place for cultivating Silver Spiritual Mountain herbs, known for its tough terrain. Chu Guangxiang had assigned him a task that was too much for two people, a clear act of spite. Yet, in that moment, Chu Tianwen was powerless to do anything but accept.
With resignation, the couple took up their long pickaxes and began to till the stubborn earth. They lifted the tools high and brought them down with force, only to have the hard ground repel the pickaxe, turning over mere palm-sized clumps of purple-red soil. Their hands grew numb from the effort.
