Chapter 30: Greater Shadowfire Devil
When he became aware of the world again he immediately checked his status panel.
He had not been expecting anything unique as he leveled up since he was constantly wrong before so this was interesting for him.

He had not been given a description of the evolution before it occurred so he didnt really know what these bonuses were but he could guess.
Shadowfire was what his previous species was and it was built upon his equal use of both elements so this new species must be the improved version which combines the two affinities into something stronger.
He didnt know what shadowfire would do but he was excited to try it out... though he was worried about whether the boss would be resistant to it or not.
Before entering the boss room he chose to test out the shadow orb just to gain mastery over it.
Since he had the time to figure it out he even went as far as to create the shadow and fire equivalent of each spell he did not choose before.

It seemed that shadowfire spells had an inherently higher grade than other elements as the same spell made from the shadowfire element was at a new tier, the legend tier.
When mastering the spells he noticed very strange things about the shadowfire element.
The first aspect of it was how shadowfire was like an element of its own but if he cast a spell using a different element it would separate from the union.
'Its like saltwater, its a new solution made from two ingredients but you can easily extract one of then with the right technique!'
The second thing he noticed was the fact that shadowfire was even easier to manipulate than his previous affinities, he had struggled to make mana constructs with shadow mana or fire mana but with this element he could create mana constructs easily.
The third thing he noticed?
Touching shadowfire was torture.
When he gripped the handle of a shadowfire mana constuct in the shape of a dagger he immediately began to take both burn and consumption from the mana so he practically threw the dagger away in his panic.
Exploring his new power was fun but he had a great test dummy in the next room.

After absorbing the shadow mana in the room he was surprised to see that what he knew would be at least another point on his affinity before was now not even a tick.
He touched the coffin and prepared his spells.
Since he could use mana constructs so easily he even tried to create a number of projectiles using it.
While making his spears of shadow mana he felt like they could be improved, so while the lid was moving to the side he began to experiment.
He compressed the mana in the spears down to a fine point until they were thin like needles and just as sharp.
It took some mana to keep them in the air around him and the more he made the harder they became to control.
When he finally saw her head he sent out the four condensed mana spears.
Now he had been expecting his spells to not do very much as they normally would since she had such high magical resistance.
He was wrong.

...
Somehow he had bypassed her magic resistance but not only had he bypassed it, he completely ignored it!
Her health was rapidly falling compared to before and he was very excited for that.
Her skull was basically gone and all that remained was the spectral flame that would peak out of the damaged skull in previous battles.
With her skull shattered except for the base connected to the vertebrae he wondered if she would be able to see him or if she truly did rely on video game logic about skeletons.
While waiting for an answer he wished to try something.
He moved forward with a shadowfire nova cast, condensed and ready to blast her away.
He created more surrounding his hand and clumped them together like some kind of bouquet of bombs.
With this he launched the projectile clump at her spectral flame to see what would happen.
The result floored him.
Well he also got blasted into the floor by the explosion but that was besides the point.
By targeting her spectral flame he had dealt more than half of her health in one blow!
Now that he had his best target he would farm this boss for everything she could give.
