Chapter 20 - Chaotic hearts
Chapter 20 - Chaotic hearts
Outside, it was raining like the heavens wanted to drown the Beijing city. Every now and then, overwhelming noises of thunders would shake the city and chill one’s heart with fear.
Su Liwei glanced at the beautiful woman who laid defenseless on the bed.
So careless. How could she pass out with a man by her side?
He pushed away a strand of her hair; his fingertips touched her soft, squashy cheeks and filled his chest with a strong feeling of gentleness towards that woman.
’I-I wasn’t... Don’t...Don’t kill my grandfather... Don’t hate me... I would do everything you ask... I..." Silent tears fell down her closed eyes.
Su Liwei felt a strong sensation in his chest. No matter how hard he tried to stop himself, his hand still reached forward and wiped away her tears.
"L-Liwee..." Her hand tightly grasped his hand. Instantly, her face eased, her tears stopped immediately and she started breathing became even. It was as if all her pains vanished.
Su Liwei’s eyes eased a little; his hand froze and his cold face let out allowed those deeply hidden emotions. He looked at Jing Lihua in despair.
"We can’t be... We are not fated to be. Why don’t you see?" He looked away, out of the glass window at the roaring thunderstorm. The chaotic weather reciprocated the state of his mind and heart. He toughened his heart. No, he must not fall. He couldn’t let them walk down that path of destruction. She didn’t know but he had made a promise to his mother on her death bed. a promise he couldn’t break. A promise that will stand as an eternal unbreakable obstacle between him and her.
"We were never meant to be. You should hate me. You should try your best to avoid me, to fight me off and push me away. I’m your enemy, not your friend. You should be clear of that.", he said; his eyes darkened once again. " You must be strong. Do not let me destroy you... And do not call for me again."
He freed his hand from her tight grip. Once his hand left hers, her serene expressions broke and her hands moved around relentlessly in search of something. Her petite body trembled; she whimpered softly. But Su Liwei suppressed his urge to look in her direction again.
He still remembered the day, he first saw her.
A boy was sitting under a lone maple tree, all alone to himself, in a small park. That maple tree used to be his only companion. He was forced to dress in pure black clothes. His mother said she didn’t like other colors. They were too irritating to her eyes.
"I don’t understand why doesn’t mother like colors. They are so beautiful."
"Haha. Look isn’t it the famous Su Liwei? The rich boy. What is it, rich boy? Why are you sitting here all alone? Is there no who wants to be your friend?" A boy laughed.
"Go away!"
"And what is it? Oh" The tall boy snatched his drawing. "Are you stupid? Boys don’t draw flowers."
"Give it back to me!"
"Take it yourself if you have the strength."
"Give it to me!" He snarled and lunged towards the other boy, who was twice as him in size. He bit him hard.
"You bastard!"The tall boy easily threw away the little boy and tore the drawing into pieces in anger and laughed at him.
"Don’t call me a bastard! I’m not a bastard! Don’t you dare call me a bastard!" The boy eyes filled with tears and he once again charged at the tall boy; with a strength ten times more than earlier. The tall boy fell down and he punched him again and again till his face was bleeding.
"Don’t let go... You monster..."
The tall boy hardly managed to escape with a bruised face and a bleeding nose.
When he was gone Su Liwei went down to pick up pieces of his drawing. Tears blinded his eyes. It was his father who had drawn it with him. Other than him, there was no one else who would even talk with him. All of them were scared of his mother. But his father... he also didn’t usually talk to him. Only on his birthday would he spare some time for him. He had kept that drawing with himself for the last month, keeping it safe, treasuring it.
But now...
Just as he was picking up those pieces, a pale hand picked up one for him. He looked up to find a pair of bright green eyes; a color so different from the usual black that he greatly despised.
So vibrant. So beautiful.
"Don’t cry. We’ll attach the pieces together."
"I..." He was to shy to say anything.
"My name is Jing Lihua. Would you be my friend?"
Su Liwei snapped out of his thoughts when another loud thunder roared outside. When he could no longer sleep, he called his secretary. His secretary was used to getting calls from him anytime.
"Mr. Li?"
"Did you find it?"
"Yes Mr. Li, apart from those lands in the southern area, Miss Jing used the remaining funds in the company to buy the shares of a construction company that is about to go bankrupt. She had bought 58 percent shares at once." He informed. After a while, he explained his analyses. "I find this move totally unreasonable. That company has been suffering a decline in the stock market for many years. Many experts even say that the company wouldn’t survive another year. Though there is a small minority of experts who believe otherwise, their conclusions are based on a piece of uncertain information. The risks are not worth such a big investment unless someone is buddha and already knows everything."
Chen Feng was very proud of him. The mock in his tune was very clear. His analyses had never been wrong before. In his mind, he had already considered Jing Lihua as someone who wasn’t aware of even the basics of business.
Why was his boss wasting time to track her activities? The way she was now, she would ruin the company herself in a matter of time. She was just an unexperienced novice.
"What about those lands? Did you find something suspicious?"
After a silence, Chen Feng said. "No, Mr. Li. I couldn’t find anything at all. Those lands are completely worthless from my conclusion."
"Continue your investigation."
Su Liwei glanced at her sleeping figure who had now succ.u.mbed into a very deep sleep. What was she up to?
"There is one thing more Mr. Su"
"Speak."
"Yesterday Ms. Jing canceled the seats to the Maldives she booked before the wedding."
Su Liwei didn’t expect that. He was already aware of Jing Lihua’s plans for their trip. In fact, it was the reason he visited the Jing family household. Because they wouldn’t meet else way, he had expected her to use this chance to talk to him about the matter. But who would expect she would cancel the seats yesterday? Why did she even reserve those seats in the first place if she intended to cancel them all along?
Bu doing that was she telling him that she was letting go of him?
