Chapter 257 - Nausea
Chapter 257 - Nausea
After sending his mother to his father’s arm, Lu Qiang obediently stayed inside without peeking or getting curious as to what’s happening outside. First and foremost, he wasn’t interested in watching his parents’ public display of affection, and second, he’s not a dog to suddenly be fed with dog food.
So like the obedient son that he is, Lu Qiang stayed put inside. He sat alone at the dining table and without caring whatever the food on the table was, he started eating his dinner. He randomly picked up a vegetable and as soon as he chewed it, he immediately recognized the familiar taste.
His brows furrowed as he stared at the foods in front of him with incredulity.
"Was this from XXX restaurant?"
"Yes, Young Master. The Master said that he ordered it for you." The butler calmly explained.
"..."
What father!!!
He didn’t even save a share for him.
Lu Qiang started sulking but he immediately remembered for a second his father’s talent in cooking.
....wait, wasn’t restaurant food better than eating his masterpiece? He doesn’t want to get a stomachache in the middle of the night ah.
He silently prayed for his mother’s stomach while he quietly enjoyed his own dinner.
In the garden, the couple was taking their time in eating dinner.
When Lu Chen first took a bite of the pasta that he made, his first thought was to spit it out.
Lu Chen:....should have tasted it first before plating.
But his wife noticed his stiff expression and looked at him with questioning eyes. So the pasta that was about to exit his mouth immediately went down his throat.
That salty aftertaste in his tongue made him feel apologetic again to his wife. She was eating it so happily as if it was the most delicious pasta in the world,... he didn’t know if he should feel touched by his wife’s thoughtfulness or should he cry because he was letting his wife eat this kind of food.
"Should we..." He opened his mouth making Xiu Mei look straight at him. His original next sentence was instantly swallowed and rephrased, "...add some more food?"
Xiu Mei shook her head with a smile on her face.
"I’m good with just this." She sounded so sincere when she said that so Lu Chen didn’t doubt her words.
He looked at his food again and continued eating it.
Well, if his wife could eat it, why can’t he?
And so, the romantic dinner ended successfully that night.
Lu Qiang went to bed early, not intending to disturb their couple time so Lu Chen was able to hog Xiu Mei throughout the whole night forgetting all the work he set aside that day.
The next day.
Xiu Mei felt like her entire body was falling apart. She could barely move her fingers with all that night exercise she did with Lu Chen. Stinky hooligan!
The hooligan in question was currently in the bathroom. Xiu Mei pushed herself up as she tried to get up from the bed, but as soon as she rose, a wave of dizziness immediately attacked her. She fell back weakly as she shut her eyes with her arm over it hoping that when she opens it again, she won’t be as dizzy anymore.
"Wife, is something wrong?" He was by her side in an instant and touched her forehead to check her temperature.
Xiu Mei lifted her arm slightly and threw a side glare at the hooligan from last night.
Wasn’t this his fault that she was like this right now ah?!
She barely has the energy to scold him at the moment since she was still feeling dizzy and nauseous so she just kept her mouth shut and let her eyes intimidate him.
Lu Chen didn’t see her glare when he felt her forehead slightly warmer than normal.
"I think you have a fever." He uttered.
He sat up and opened the drawer of their side table. Taking out the medicine box, he grabbed a medicine and then stood up to pour his wife a glass of water.
"Take this first." He supported her back when he helped her rise from the bed. But before he could bring the pill to her mouth, Xiu Mei felt another wave of nausea and some kind of acid at the back of her mouth. She immediately got off the bed and rushed to the bathroom to vomit it out.
The sound of her retching in the bathroom scared Lu Chen. He quickly followed his wife to the bathroom and saw her crouching in front of the toilet bowl as she continued to spit out something.
"I’ll call Tang Li."
He pulled out his phone and was about to call him when Xiu Mei stopped him.
"No, I’m fine."
"How are you fine? You should see yourself in the mirror to see how pale you are right now."
"I’m really alright. It’s just a mild fever ah, a simple fever medicine would do."
"But you’re already vomiting like this, how can that be a simple fever?"
"Don’t worry, it’s not that serious."
Xiu Mei was just about to say an excuse like she probably ate something bad but she remembered that the dinner she ate was cooked by Lu Chen so she swallowed her words.
Lu Chen saw her firm expression that she didn’t want him to call their personal doctor and gave in. He helped her up and supported her back to the bed.
"Then at least take the day off today."
"I’ll be fine."
"Xiu Mei." He pressed.
"I promise, I’m alright. It’s just a mild fever. I’ve even survived going to work sick with something worse than just a mild fever before. I’ll live."
Lu Chen sighed as he looked at his stubborn wife. With her pleading like this, he felt his head ache.
He knelt in front of her and cupped her face, "But that’s before. You’re my wife now, my priority is your wellbeing before work, that’s why."
"I know. But I really can’t skip work today no matter what."
She thought of the reports that she had to read today from the aftermath of that stock trading suspension. And she’s still not yet done coordinating with the security commission. She was in a rush in digging deeper how big the effect was because of Albert’s interference---wait.
She completely forgot about him!!
"I completely forgot to say to you ah! Albert emailed me two days ago about his resignation letter."
Lu Chen raised his eyebrows. What’s he up to now? What kind of enemy writes a formal resignation to his enemy after getting found out?
"I’ll get Lu Shao to handle it." Lu Chen simply said. "Just rest today."
"Chenchen!"
"Wife."
The two continued staring at each other for a long while until a knock broke their staring competition.
"Mom, Dad, aren’t you going to have your breakfast?" Lu Qiang’s small head appeared between the door.
He looked at his parents who were by the edge of the bed and immediately noticed his mother’s paleness. His eyelids jumped as he rushed over to her side.
"Mom, you still don’t feel well?" How come his mother was still pale ah?
She already looked better yesterday when she came home so he thought she was already fine and she was already with his father. But why does her mother somehow looked worse than yesterday?
Lu Chen immediately caught on to his son’s words and twisted his neck to look sharply at his wife.
"You were also sick yesterday?"
Xiu Mei gulped nervously at the sudden fierce look on her husband. She didn’t dare to nod her head nor lie to him. But she didn’t need to worry, because her lovable son answered it in her stead.
"Mom looked sick yesterday morning. She looked fine when she came home yesterday so I thought..." Lu Qiang haven’t finished his sentence when Lu Chen firmly decided to call Tang Li this time.
"Drop by here."
"Yeah, as soon as possible."
"Okay."
Everything happened too fast for Xiu Mei to stop him from calling the doctor. So as soon as Lu Chen finished the call, he didn’t listen to her pleading again this time.
"You’re not going to work until Tang Li says you’re completely better." His tone says that it’s already final and there’s nothing Xiu Mei could say to change his mind.
"....Fine."
She pouted at him and shifted her body to stretch her legs on the bed. She rolled her eyes at him and talked to her son instead.
"I’m sorry, mom couldn’t prepare your lunch today."
"I’ll be fine Mom. I want you to get better."
"Mhm. I can’t kiss or hug you since Mom is sick. I’ll just give you a flying kiss ah!" Then she blew her son a kiss.
Lu Qiang didn’t shy away and also did the same. The two of them was suddenly in their own world leaving out the ice cube isolated on the side.
Lu Chen:.....
