Chapter 71 - Reverting Back
Chapter 71 - Reverting Back
As Xiu Mei cautiously watched the video, she swiftly changed browsers once again when she heard the sound of her room door opening. She did it quite so naturally as if she didn’t do something so sneaky behind everyone’s backs.
She relaxed, as her sight darted to the nurse entering her room with some familiar stuff she uses for the daily check-ups. She closed her laptop and moved it on the side table, making some space for the nurse. Lu Qiang also sat back on the sofa as he watched his Mom being treated by the nurse. The process was quick and it was finally over in just a few minutes.
Xiu Mei rubbed the cotton stuck on her arm, a stinging pain left behind when her blood was taken out awhile ago. Her gaze stopped on the covered wound, as she relaxed her clenched hands. If one didn’t look closely, no one would’ve noticed how hard she bit her lower lip and the crescent markings of her nails on her palm.
Yes, Xiu Mei has Trypanophobia. She was diagnosed back then after the kidnapping. After all, such terrible people kidnapped her and she remembered being stabbed a couple of times by a needle before she was saved.
After that, she had to be stabbed a couple more times for testing and check-ups in the hospital. She reacted so strongly against injections back then, but after growing up a couple of years later, she was finally able to control her unstable emotions and hold back her fear even for just a little bit.
Xiu Mei laughed dryly as she thought how pitiful she had really turned out after that nightmare. She fully knows how her emotions have become so unstable lately, and the grief and pain were wallowing her being once again. She was slowly reverting back to the worst version of herself, and she was scared. So scared that she won’t be able to get back up once she completely drowns in it.
"Mom, are you okay?" Lu Qiang worriedly looked at his Mom whose brows were furrowed. Even if he was still a kid, he can clearly feel the changes in mood of his Mom.
Xiu Mei broke out from her reverie and cleared her throat, attempting to gather herself and hold it together in front of the little one. She pulled out a smile, as she lifted her right hand and rubbed Lu Qiang’s head.
"Mom’s fine, don’t worry."
Lu Qiang didn’t believe her as he continued to stare at her face, then moved his gaze to the wound. He blinked as if he finally realized what was wrong. He pushed his body to climb on the bed with his little arms and neared his face on the wound. A few seconds later, Xiu Mei watched the little kid trying his best to blow on the wound as if it would soothe her pain.
And honestly, somehow, he really did.
Xiu Mei felt as if someone was lightly scratching her heart, she didn’t notice that her body was completely relaxing now.
On Lu Chen’s side.
Lu Chen and Xiu Mo Ruo sat oppositely from each other. Pictures spread out on the table, along with some papers and information that made their mood turned heavy as soon as both of them read it.
"The Ying family are hiding something." Xiu Mo Ruo declared as he nearly crumpled the paper in his hands.
Being involved in politics for quite a few years, he himself is well versed in being cunning as well. He learned to be extremely cautious and intelligent because everything is not what it seems on the surface.
And that’s also his thoughts on her sister’s attempted kidnapping case.
He and Lu Chen separately investigated the people who could possibly be behind the attack, but weirdly enough, both of them got the same results and information. All pieces of evidence are being pointed to the Ying Family, and if submitted to the police, it was enough evidence to arrest and convict them.
But that’s what made Xiu Mo Ruo and Lu Chen more suspicious. The Ying Family isn’t just a small family in the city, though not as powerful and prestigious as the Xiu Family, they’re still one of the families to be feared in the circle.
And with the current power of the Ying Family, he was very doubtful that the Ying’s would easily leave their traces if they wanted to kidnap her sister. At most, not this much amount of evidence could be traced in such a short time.
The both of them realized. That somebody was purposefully framing the Ying family, and the true culprits are trying to make the Xiu family be the gun to wipe them out. The culprit is deliberately playing with all of them at this moment.
Despite that, he is still suspicious with the Ying family. Were they unaware that someone is framing them or... they know it and just let them continue with the plan?
Lu Chen icily gazed at the words on the paper as he spoke, "Do you think this is related to Xiu Mei’s kidnapping in the past?"
Lu Chen already knows a lot about Xiu Mei’s previous kidnapping, but he was sure that the Xiu Family must’ve known more and hid a lot of information in case someone dares to investigate about it again. He was sure that his investigation must’ve missed quite a few important information so it was best to ask it to Xiu Mei’s second brother.
Xiu Mo Ruo moved his sight from the paper to look at Lu Chen. "I have doubts, but I don’t think this is completely related to her kidnapping case. There are quite a few details I have suspicions on, and but I’d have to confirm it to my family first before doing something."
Xiu Mo Ruo picked up another paper. "To be able to get past your company’s security, we’re definitely dealing with a very intelligent person. I’m very much aware of the other work you have, and I must say, I almost thought that your organization must’ve been working a bit sloppily lately for this to happen?"
