Cronus' system: Against the gods

Chapter 21: Divine Game of Amusement

Chapter 21: Divine Game of Amusement

High in the heavens, where the stars sparkled like jewels scattered across a velvet sky, the throne room of the gods buzzed with an air of restlessness. Zeus, king of the gods, sat brooding on his grand throne made of gold and lightning, his fingers drumming against the armrest. His piercing gaze flickered across the swirling clouds below, focused on the tiny, insignificant mortals living out their lives on Earth.

Though many of the gods attended to their own matters, they occasionally cast their attention downward, watching Earth for moments of amusement. But today, Zeus felt a particular itch. He had grown tired of watching the petty squabbles between mortals, their minor powers barely a flicker of entertainment to the gods. There was one mortal, though, that caught his eye recently, a boy who had cheated death, Rex Xander.

A smirk slowly curled onto Zeus's lips as he leaned forward. "Mortals... always thinking they can defy fate. Always entertaining when they try," he mused, his deep voice vibrating like thunder. "I wonder... how far can they go when faced with true power?"

His eyes sparkled with mischief. A thought had struck him.

He turned his gaze toward the seas, where his brother, Poseidon, ruled. "Brother," Zeus called, his voice cutting through the divine air like a blade. "It's been some time since the creatures of the deep have tasted the surface world, hasn't it?"

Poseidon, reclining on a throne of coral looked up from the waters he constantly watched over. His sea-green eyes flickered with intrigue. "What is it you suggest, Zeus?" Poseidon asked, his voice like the crashing of waves . He knew his brother well, and the grin on Zeus's face meant only one thing, chaos was about to unfold.

Zeus stood, the air around him buzzing with static energy. He paced slowly, his mind already weaving the threads of a new game. "There's a boy," he began, "who has attracted Cronus's attention. One who wields time, a mortal whose destiny might disrupt the balance of things." He waved his hand dismissively. "I grow tired of watching them struggle with their meager powers. It's time we remind them of what true power looks like."

"What?!!! Cronus?!!! H...how?!" Hermes appeared, looking terrified.

"No need to panic, he's just a little pest that can be disposed of anytime....hehe....I'm sure he doesn't even know how to wield the powers clearly nor the effects that follow" Zeus smirked, lightning coiling around his hands as he spoke

Poseidon leaned forward, now fully invested in the conversation. "And what do you propose? Send a storm? Unleash one of the beasts from the abyss?"

Zeus's eyes glinted with excitement. "Yes, brother. But not just any beast. Something worthy of our attention. Something that will make the mortals tremble."

The sea god nodded slowly, understanding his brother's intention. "The Hydra, then," Poseidon said with a grin, a dangerous smile that mirrored the depths of the ocean he ruled. "It has slept beneath the waves for too long. Let's see how these mortals fare against it."

"Perfect," Zeus responded, the storm in his eyes growing. "A leviathan-ranked beast, one that even the greatest of heroes once struggled to defeat. But this time, let's make it more... interesting."

Zeus extended his hand toward the seas, his fingers sparking with divine power. "Awaken the Hydra!" he commanded, his voice booming like thunder across the heavens. "Let it rise from the abyss and roam the surface once more!"

Far beneath the oceans, deep in the darkest trench where light could never reach, a rumbling began. The waters trembled as the ancient, monstrous creature stirred. The Hydra, a fearsome beast with nine heads, each more venomous and destructive than the last, awoke from its long slumber. Its eyes snapped open, glowing with an eerie light as it sensed its master's call.

The sea churned violently as the creature began to rise, its massive body pushing through the depths toward the surface.

Poseidon watched the scene unfold, but he wasn't satisfied with merely unleashing the beast. He had something to add. "Zeus," Poseidon called, a wicked grin spreading across his face. "Let me enhance its strength. The Hydra should be more than just a beast of legend—it should be an unstoppable force."

Zeus's eyes gleamed with approval. "Do as you wish, brother. Let them face a terror even the gods would tremble before."

Poseidon raised his trident, summoning the full power of the oceans. A pulse of divine energy flowed from the god of the seas into the rising Hydra. The water around the creature surged, swirling violently as the beast absorbed the immense strength Poseidon poured into it. Its scales grew harder, shimmering with a dark, otherworldly sheen. Its eyes glowed brighter, and its venom became deadlier. The beast's very presence was now enhanced with Poseidon's wrath, an unstoppable tide of destruction.

"The mortals will never know peace while it walks the earth," Poseidon said, his voice filled with satisfaction.

Zeus laughed, his deep, rumbling laughter echoing across the heavens. "This will be a fine spectacle. Let's see how long they last against a force of the gods."

With a final burst of lightning from Zeus's hand, the Hydra breached the surface of the ocean, its massive heads towering above the waters, each one letting out a deafening roar that shook the very sky. The sea around it boiled with divine power as it began its journey toward the mortal world.

Poseidon watched it move, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "I wonder how long their bravest will last before they fall."

Zeus nodded, settling back onto his throne, already anticipating the chaos that was about to unfold on Earth. "Let them fight, let them struggle. It matters not. In the end, they are but pawns in our game."

The gods smiled, their eyes fixed on the world below. For them, this was not a battle of survival, it was merely entertainment. The Hydra, enhanced with the might of Poseidon, was a tool in their grand game, and the mortals would now face the wrath of the heavens.
