Chapter 712
Chapter 712
The Pandemonium Guild members continued patrolling the corridors with—funnily enough, the Guild Master of the Head Crusher Guild, Siegfried van Proa.
“Hey, by the way... Did you see the betting odds for today’s match?” one of the guild members asked.
It was then.
“Ugh!”
The guild member who just spoke suddenly let out a groan and collapsed to the ground.
“Hmm? Hey, what’s wrong with you?”
“Hey, are you alright?”
“Get up, man.”
The other guild members tried to approach their fallen comrade, but they were unable to get close enough.
Thud, thud, thud!
One after another, the Pandemonium Guild members fell to the ground without even uttering a scream.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Upon death, they ended up dropping their main weapons and several expensive items.
“Hehe,” Siegfried smirked wickedly after watching the Pandemonium Guild members die one by one. Then, he summoned the Three-Legged Crow to sweep up the sweet, sweet items.
[Alert: You have obtained +13 Ignition Spear!]
[Alert: You have obtained +11 Blood Moon Amulet!]
[Alert: You have obtained Forbidden Tome: Panda Reading Time!]
[Alert: You have obtained +12 Steps of Salvation!]
(omitted...)
[Alert: You have obtained +16 Plague Jackknife!]
Siegfried grinned and pulled out Hamchi from his pocket after looting the random drop items.
“Hey, give me a hand.”
“Kyuuu! Got it!”
Siegfried quickly hid the bodies of the patrols in an empty room before calmly strolling away as if nothing had happened. The clean-up was so flawless that there were no signs that anything had happened at all.
The reason there were no traces of blood or battle left behind, aside from a little drool here and there, was that the Pandemonium Guild members had died from radiation poisoning.
***
It had only been thirty minutes since the match began, but the atmosphere in the V-Sports Stadium was already heating up from excitement.
— Han Tae-Sung is on the move! He's moving around the fortress as if it were his own home!
— Han Tae-Sung is using his item with the strange ability to see the entire map, so he knows where each and every one of the Pandemonium Guild members is!
— But he is not only relying on his item! His infiltration skills are quite commendable, too! I believe he is capable of pulling this off even without relying on his item!
The scene of Siegfried sneaking into the heart of the enemy camp and assassinating the Pandemonium Guild members sent shockwaves throughout the V-Sports Stadium, exciting the crowd.
The way he mingled and chatted with them, all while deceiving them, was nothing short of a masterpiece. This was an iconic moment that not only fans but also textbooks would talk about for ages on how to deceive others.
Although there had been countless broadcasted matches before, never had there been one that played out just like a spy movie.
However, Siegfried was not the only one driving the fans wild.
The Descendant of God Arrow Windforce, Gosran, finally revealed her abilities to the world as she completely put the Pandemonium Guild on their backfoot by shooting arrow after arrow at them.
Shwiiik! Shwiiik!
Her arrows silently zipped through the air and struck down the Pandemonium Guild members, forcing them to retreat from the walls and take cover behind the walls.
The arrows shot by the Descendant of God Arrow Windforce flew at great speeds from nearly two kilometers away, and they made no noise as if they were harbingers of death.
However, what really drove the Pandemonium Guild members insane was Gosran’s mobility. She'd teleport through the sky while raining down arrows before disappearing before the Pandemonium Guild members could retaliate.
They tried retaliating with long-range skills, but by the time their skills were anywhere near her, she had already teleported to safety. Thus, the Pandemonium Guild was forced to pull back from the walls to reduce casualties, but this decision didn't spare them from Gosran.
Shwiiik! Puuuk!
An arrow pierced a Pandemonium Guild member’s head.
Thud!
He collapsed and died on the spot.
Teleport Arrow.
This was a skill that allowed an arrow to teleport and hit enemies hiding behind cover. It was a skill so overpowered that even Siegfried had cursed it out loud before.
— W-What was that?!
— Kim Seul-Gi is teleporting her arrows to strike the Pandemonium Guild members hiding behind the walls!
— Pandemonium has completely lost control of the walls! How is this even possible?! First, Seung-Gu’s bombardment, and now Kim Seul-Gi’s arrows! The Head Crusher Guild is dominating the Pandemonium Guild from afar with just two people.
Thanks to the stellar performances put on by Seung-Gu and Gosran, the Pandemonium Guild had no other choice but to retreat further inside the fortress.
And then...
— L-Look! Daytona is scaling the west wall with his guild members!
— No one is stopping him! Wait! The Pandemonium Guild has no vision on the walls anymore! They are not aware of this!
— I believe they will be able to easily infiltrate the fortress now. But they are heading straight into enemy territory, which is a very risky move. This could backfire on them badly if things go wrong!
The battle grew even more intense, and the crowd grew rowdy after Daytona led the Head Crusher Guild members up the western wall.
***
Meanwhile, Siegfried summoned the Night Stalkers and spread them throughout the fortress while Daytona was climbing the western wall with their other guild members.
“Keep your eyes peeled. Kill them if necessary or if you see an opportunity,” Siegfried said before sending the Night Stalkers out.
The Night Stalkers roamed throughout the fortress, hidden in the shadows, providing Siegfried with vision just like a bunch of makeshift CCTV cameras.
“Let’s see...”
Siegfried shared the Night Stalker’s vision with his fellow guild members before turning his attention to the minimap.
“Hmm... They really fortified themselves in there.”
Siegfried could see that the Pandemonium Guild had built up their defenses inside. They could pick off a few patrolling units here and there, but infiltrating deeper into the main areas of the fortress undetected seemed impossible.
“They probably won’t take the bait even if I try to lure them out,” Siegfried grumbled.
The Pandemonium Guild didn't have to engage in combat against the Head Crusher Guild.
Why?
It was all because time was on their side. They would win this battle as long as they held out until the end.
In other words, the Pandemonium Guild was not going to split their main forces no matter what kind of tricks Siegfried pulled.
“I guess I’ll just keep hunting them down for now,” Siegfried said with a shrug before hunting down the patrolling units.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Suddenly, the sound of explosions echoed from the west.
“Ah, that must be Daytona and Seol-Hwa. They must’ve made their way in.”
Siegfried realized that the sounds were coming from Daytona, Yong Seol-Hwa, and the other guild members.
“Time for me to cut off their escape path,” Siegfried muttered before pulling up the minimap. He zoomed in and saw several red dots rushing toward Daytona and Yong Seol-Hwa’s position.
“There. I’ll get to that corner first.”
Siegfried sprinted toward the nearest cluster of red dots. Soon, he could hear the footsteps of the Pandemonium Guild members approaching from the hallway.
“One... two... now!”
Siegfried swung his +13 Vanquisher’s Grasp and used Quick Draw the moment the Pandemonium Guild members rounded the corner.
Sukeok!
A line was drawn in the air.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
The Pandemonium Guild members were sliced in half, collapsing into a pile of human remains.
“E-Eh...?”
Only one Pandemonium Guild member was left standing.
Zaaaaap!
But before he could even react, he was hit by a laser beam shot by Hamchi, leaving a gaping hole in his head. Then, he dropped lifeless to the floor with a dull thud.
“Good job, Hamchi.”
“Kyuuu”!
“Let’s move. We have no time to waste.”
Siegfried grabbed Hamchi and started running again.
“Kyaah! Kyaaah!”
Of course, he did not forget to summon the Three-Legged Crow to collect the items dropped by his victims.
“I need to keep cutting them off,” Siegfried said as he ran, intercepting the enemy’s path and hunting them down. “Block the exits.”
He also ordered the Night Stalkers to lay in ambush at the doors and kill the Pandemonium Guild members he had missed, ensuring that nobody would escape alive.
***
Siegfried had made the right choice. Intercepting the enemies on their way to his allies had produced remarkable results. He successfully intercepted about forty percent of the Pandemonium Guild members on their way to annihilate Daytona, Yong Seol-Hwa, and the others.
As a result...
“Damn it! Why aren’t they coming?! Why?!” Palchuck was leading around fifty of his guild members to hunt down Daytona and Yong Seol-Hwa, but he ended up yelling in frustration, as no reinforcements had shown up even now.
Unfortunately, he did not have the luxury to keep complaining.
“Let’s end this quickly,” Daytona said, swinging the Dragon’s Greatsword, an item crafted by the Dragon Blacksmith, Yong Seol-Hwa.
“You damn nobody!” Palchuck retorted.
In his eyes, Daytona was just a nobody. He was nothing more than a nameless insignificant gamer that Siegfried had found from somewhere. However, Daytona’s skills and stats completely overpowered Palchuck, who once led one of the top ten Adventurer Guilds on the continent.
Baaam!
Dayton swung his Dragon’s Greatsword from top to bottom, splitting the ground beneath.
“Aaack!” Palchuck screamed in agony.
Thud...!
He raised his weapon to block the Dragon’s Greatsword, but it ended up getting severed from his body and falling to the ground.
“Argh!”
Yong Seol-Hwa appeared from behind and said, “You’re the nobody.”
Then, she swung her hammer high above her head before swinging it down at Palchuck’s head.
Kwachik!
Palchuck’s skull was shattered into pieces.
“Argh!”
“Gaaah!”
“You crazy bi—ack!”
One by one, the Pandemonium Guild members began to fall, and their bodies littered the battlefield. In the end, they failed to hunt down their targets and ended up getting hunted instead.
***
“Damn it!” Diesel cursed loudly after realizing that things had gone terribly wrong.
Nothing had gone their way ever since the battle started. Descartes was ambushed, and his squad was wiped out; the walls were seized easily, and even the team led by Palchuck was annihilated.
To make matters worse, the patrols had disappeared without a trace, as if they had vanished into thin air.
It was indeed bizarre.
They had five hundred people and were sixteen times larger than their enemy, but they were being pressured by a mere thirty-two people.
“I told you... We’re going to die like this. They’re already inside the fortress...! He’s coming for us—” Chae Hyung-Seok said, his voice filled with dread and fear.
“Shut up! Is this the time to be saying crap like that?! Fuck!” Diesel shouted, cutting him off. Then, he issued a command to the entire guild through their insignia.
“All forces! Fall back to the Hall of Decision!”
“The Hall of Decision was the final line of defense before the throne room. It was a gigantic hall the size of a gymnasium, and it was enchanted with powerful buffs, which made it befitting as the fortress’ final line of defense.
Diesel rallied all of his remaining forces to make a last stand in the Hall of Decision.
“It’s better to hunker down and hold our ground than get picked off one by one. Damn it... Why did it have to be this map...” Diesel cursed his misfortune under his breath.
Meanwhile...
— It’s better to hunker down and hold our ground than get picked off one by one. Damn it... Why did it have to be this map...
Siegfried overheard Diesel’s plan through the Night Stalker No. 17, who was situated near the enemy leader.
“Ah, I see... In that case, we just have to mess things up for them, right? Hehehe! Let’s go, Hamchi.”
“Kyuuu!”
He began going after the red dots retreating to the Hall of Decision.
What was his plan?
It was very simple.
He had no intention of letting the Pandemonium Guild members reach the Hall of Decision unscathed.
