Chapter 57 57 – The Blood
[Vorn's Pov]
I never imagined in my wildest dreams that Xenora would take the initiative to contact me first like this. The woman rarely talks, after all.
Every word out of her mouth felt like it was sending electricity through every inch of my nerves, making my body tremble.
"Madam Phisovia is currently having convulsions, Your Majesty," Xenora told me in a calm but cold voice. However, I can guess this situation messed up her heart. "I have to end this call."
I didn't have time to respond when the call was disconnected.
My legs felt like they were losing energy, forcing me to sit on the chair again. A while ago, I was talking to Phisovia. Why is this happening now?
It's like a wake-up call for me. The risk of losing my comrades is so real.
This world is not a mere source of entertainment.
"What happened, my lord?" Charlia, standing next to me, asked while gulping.
I massaged my forehead and replied, "The intruders have reached our base. They left Phisovia badly injured and unconscious."
There was a moment of silence, then Charlia snapped. "Excuse me, my lord!? Why did that happen..."
Charlia's words were cut short because Karl tapped the succubus on the shoulder.
"Don't disturb him." The mayor said. "Let him cool off first, Charlia."
I looked at the man. "What if you were in my position, Sir Karl? As a leader, what will you do when your comrade and loved ones are hurt, but you can't reach them?"
I can only use the teleport skill again tomorrow morning. If I insisted on flying, it would take me almost two days, even at maximum speed and without stopping.
Karl sat across from me. "As a leader, you must constantly think to find a solution, lord. Calm yourself. Maybe because your mind is blank, you can't see an obvious path."
An obvious path? What kind of path can I find? I'm not sure there's a demonic healer I can contact remotely….
How stupid I am.
Because I was too panicked, I forgot that Ayre was with Lexi. Yes, I don't need to contact the healer directly, but the one with her.
"Thanks, Sir Karl." I opened the UI menu to contact my shapeshifter general. "This shows that you are truly an extraordinary mayor."
"You're welcome." The man shrugged and smiled. "My brain isn't just filled with perverted stuff, you know?"

"I wonder why lord Vorn asked you and your subordinates to learn melee fighting, and you agreed, Ayre," Lexi mumbled as she washed a large turkey in a bucket of water. The bird was prepared to heal Ayre. The shapeshifter general needs a lot of calcium and protein to build her body.
"Why?" Ayre, already a little bigger, asked while chopping the garlic.
"Ah, it seems you don't know about it yet." Lexi picked up the turkey and put it on a table. "It's not that I'm underestimating your people's abilities, but there's a physical limit you won't be able to cross."
"You're talking about our physique that can't be like humans?" Ayre transferred the chopped garlic to a bowl. "I know about it. Humans can break their physical limits. Their strength and speed will be multiplied by continuing to train as well as fighting. Shapeshifters like us can't do that. In the end, we will be stuck and can't improve anymore."
"However, your brains are greater than ours." Lexi leaned over to the woman. "Your people can learn quickly and store many information within yourselves. Therefore, your race is actually more suited to learning magic."
"We're going on infiltration missions, Doc," Ayre answered. "I think melee combat is more practical for that..."
Ayre heard a small, intermittent buzzing in her ears, a sign that Vorn was calling.
"Yes, my lord? Can I help you?"
Ayre fell silent hearing her master's explanation, then looked at Lexi again. "There's messages from Lord Vorn, Doc."
Ayre conveyed what Vorn explained precisely word for word. Several times Lexi choked to hear the sequence of events.
"Only a few things can make demons convulse like that." Lexi's tone began to stiffen. "But, there is no precise method to detect them."
"So, we have to find out the cause first?"
"Yes." The doctor nodded. "If we mishandle Phisovia, I'm afraid her condition will only worsen."
"Is there no temporary treatment to reduce the symptoms?"
Lexi makes a portal of light that leads to her pocket dimension. "Wait a minute, I have to look for that first… Lady Phisovia is a succubus race, right? If I remember correctly, that race needs the blood of its fellows for such symptoms."
She then pulled out a stack of books.

Xenora sat beside Phisovia, who was sleeping on the wooden bed. The succubus general was no longer having violent convulsions like before.
Xenora then looked at the gaping wound on her left arm. The injury was five inches in size and only covered with a makeshift cloth.
This time, she didn't enjoy the pain the wound was causing.
To reduce the symptoms of Phisovia's convulsions, Xenora slashed her arm and let a lot of her blood out. She boiled it over low heat, then gave it to her superior's mouth little by little.
Xenora had lost a lot of blood, but she didn't care. She was more worried about Phisovia's condition. If Phisovia didn't get a regular intake of her fellow succubus' blood, then she would die.
Xenora wasn't sure that her blood would be enough.
A knock from the door interrupted the black-haired succubus' thoughts. She wiped her tears and asked, "Who is it?"
"It's Zroc, madam Xenora." A rather heavy voice came from behind the door. "I would like to provide a report regarding our captive."
"Come in."
A mare with dull white fur enters the room. He was assigned to the base for this kind of situation.
"I apologize in advance." The mare sighed. "Unfortunately, I couldn't extract the biggest fear or important information from him."
Xenora's face stiffened. "Why?"
Zroc shook his head. "I'm not really sure, madam. Maybe he's trained to block mind reading."
"I see." Xenora got up while clenching her hands together. "It's become my business, then."
