Chapter 47

47 Chapter 47: Strong motivation

Alex’s head kept ringing like a bell, clouding his vision and senses. He remained on all fours spitting blood occasionally as he gazed at the figure of the hunter strike the beast with his black spear before falling to the ground while leaving his spear behind in its chest.

Alex spat out another mouthful of blood as he forced his body to cast his gravity ability once again to reduce the gravity around the man and make his fall smoother and safer!

<> Alex muttered in his mind.

He could see the figure of the mutant beast struggling in mid-air before falling to the ground abruptly. It may have happened but Alex knew the fight is far from over and staying on his knees will only get him killed.

“Silver should be gone by now... I have no other choice but to push forward” Alex said as he struggled to get on his feet.

The mutant bat squirmed and cried as it struggled to pull out the black spear from its chest. This can be considered the perfect opportunity to strike but Alex and the hunter were too hurt to take advantage of it. The hunter only acted on adrenaline rush a few seconds ago, right now he needed to wait for his body to heal from the damages he has received.

Alex rose to his feet and slowly walked towards the screaming bat. He failed to understand why a beast as strong as this mutant bat is unable to pull out a flimsy spear stuck to its chest. He suspected it had something to do with the hidden ability of the beast gear so he didn’t bother to ask.

Using the first form of his demon-kin secret technique; flow, Alex slowly helped the circulation of his energy across his body to help suppress the extreme tiredness he was feeling in his opinion they have an advantage now if he can make one more move they can win!

Pa!

.....

A hand gripped his shoulder firmly, preventing him from taking a step forward.

“Now is not the time... Let’s leave first, you will get the chance to finish it later!” The hunter’s voice reached his ears and before he could react the man carried him on his shoulder and ran.

He could only watch the distance between them and the mutant bat increase and slowly it vanished from his sight. For some reason, now he is out of danger and extraordinary tiredness overwhelmed him, prompting him to pass out almost immediately.

Alex regained consciousness only to see himself in a dark room with only light rays penetrating through the tiny gaps from the wood barring the windows. The room looked relatively clean, leading him to believe someone must have been living here for a while now.

Alex didn’t bother speaking and quickly shut his eyes and silently inspected his body only to find out his injuries have been healed. He was quite stunned by this since he didn’t expect the hunter to be able to heal a person’s wounds. If he could his rating should be a little bit higher!

Alex finally decided to open his eyes only to be disappointed at what he saw. He was placed on a king-sized bed but that’s all. The room wasn’t too impressive but at least it looked clean.

“I thought you will never wake... I already began suspecting this is your first time in the wild” a voice caught his attention but he didn’t move.

The hunter walked into the room and grabbed an old wooden chair, pulling it over. Alex watched the man take a seat and his eyes instinctively shifted to his missing arm. Without the hunter’s black spear, Alex was confident he won’t lose to the man if a fight should happen.

“If you were paying attention during our first encounter you would have noticed we are not guardians... Neither are we hunters... We are first year academy recruits trying to get their hands on wolf-level mutant beasts in hopes of getting their beast gears before the military shelter games” Alex said calmly and the hunter frowned.

He failed to understand why they would risk their lives just to get their hands on beast gears and when did first-year academy recruits become so strong?

“You see, it’s hard to buy that story especially since there shouldn’t be any first-year recruit as strong as you and that little friend of yours” the hunter said but Alex chuckled in response.

“We are members of the big four... We began our training from a tender age and had numerous resources invested in us... If we can’t do this much wouldn’t that make us useless?” Alex said calmly. It sounded like he was carefully picking his words.

“And you decided to stay while your friend ran... Is that how strong the bond of friendship between members of the big four is?” The hunter asked and Alex laughed.

“The fact he even bothered trying to get me to leave with him is more than enough... We members of the big four are rivals... Not friends” Alex replied quickly.

“What about you? If you can heal others then why stay here? Return to the capital and I can assure you, you will get a life a thousand times better than this... The battlefield is not a place for a support type deviant like you” Alex asked.

“I can’t leave... At least not now...” The hunter said with a frown.

“I can tell... I can also tell you have been here for years now... A weak deviant threw himself into the wild and survived, by all means, getting stronger with each battle he fought... With your ability sustaining injuries shouldn’t be a problem... In fact, I can tell you are already getting used to the pain... To achieve something of this level one must have strong motivation... I wonder what’s keeping you going” Alex said with a mischievous smile.
