Chapter 49
49 Chapter 49: Crazy hunter
Alex and the man spent the next few hours indoors, recovering. Although the physical injuries have been dealt with, there was still physical and mental fatigue plaguing them. According to the hunter, he could track the black spear stuck deep in the chest of the bat creature. In fact, if anything should happen while they waited, it would lead to the beast injuring itself even more.
Alex wasn’t in a hurry though. He needed to be in optimal condition if he wishes to best the hunter and the mutant beast. At this point, Alex didn’t even bother trying to learn the name of the hunter or try to get more information about him. As someone who allows the past to overshadow the possible good future and let it drag him down a part of no return, Alex considered him a dead man already.
While his reasoning may not be accepted by everybody, Alex didn’t care. Why would he let some resources waste on a man who is ready to throw away his entire life for a past event not caused by man but a mindless mutant beast? Why would he let more resources waste on a man who can’t differentiate between the true foe and the decoys?
Should the government and military did their work, things wouldn’t have turned out that way. If the guardians were sent into the areas where they are actually needed, none of this would have happened. Instead, the guardians stay in the most civilized areas and play the role of celebrities.
If the hunter hated the government and wanted to destroy it from within, that is what Alex can understand. Instead, he chose to push the blame on a mindless beast trying to feed!
“The weak will not survive such trying times... That’s the way the world works” Alex muttered calmly before rising to his feet and walked out of the room.
He could already sense some movements and by looking out the barred windows he could tell it was already time. The sun is setting and this is the perfect time to hunt an injured beast!

After spending enough time with the hunter, Alex realized two things. The first is that the young are not too bright. Maybe spending so much time away from civilization has made him become more of a beast than a man, making him so predictable, even Alex can’t resist the urge to look down on him.
The second concerns his beast gear. Alex guessed the man’s other beast gears may be at the wolf tier but his black spear beast gear should be tiger level. That explains why it is able to harm a foe whose level of power has far surpassed the wolf level and nearing the other level.
.....
For a man to be able to control so many beast gears and a tiger level beast gear, Alex could tell that the dumb man at least had a reasonable level of willpower.
After what seemed like a thirty minutes walk, Alex and the hunter arrived at the same place where they fought the previous night. The entire environment seemed lonely and quiet but then a large puddle of blood could be seen in a small pothole located near the destroyed window with the black spear laid there gently. Kneeling, Alex deeped his index finger into it and frowned.
“The blood is fresh so I believe it only pulled out the spear recently... I can tell it should have a massive hole on its chest, and honestly, I don’t know how it is still alive after suffering from an injury as this” Alex said with a slight frown and the hunter nodded in agreement.
“It shouldn’t be too far from here... We can follow the blood trail and expect to find a badly hurt beast. It’s too hurt to go through with its evolution, putting it in a weakened state... This is the best time to fight such a foe” the hunter stretched his hand as he spoke.
The black spear suddenly began trembling before flying into his hand. Alex and the hunter gave each other as they ran into the home through the window. The blood trail lured them outside the house through the front door, leading them into what looked like an abandoned construction site.
Arriving at the location, Alex and the hunter were greeted with countless construction machines. Each was covered in moss and badly rusted. Walking towards the old generator, Alex frowned as he touched it with his fingertips. He tried to control his facial expressions as he went through his assumptions and calculations.
For a mutant beast to evolve there are two notable methods. One is through the killing of other mutant beasts and consuming their beast cores. By absorbing the power of the beast cores, a current beast can accumulate enough power to forcefully evolve itself. Meanwhile, the second method is by finding another source of power. Using the fragment of the blue meteorites as a power source, mutant beasts can evolve even faster.
Alex assumed the bat mutant beast remained in the old house because a small fragment of the blue meteorite is located there. He hoped he could get his hand on something so precious and try out his matter manipulation ability and try to absorb its power. He couldn’t help but wonder what effects It will have on him.
Alex’s eyes were cold as he gazed at the environment filled with perfect hiding spots for the bat creature. In normal circumstances, he would not agree to fight in such a condition not favorable to him.
He could tell the mutant beast is somewhere here but where exactly is what he can not say.
“Let’s go up and search” the hunter said and Alex’s face turned cold.
“I always thought you are dumb and now you have proven to me you are far dumber than expected... The structure has been here for decades and it is a miracle it is still standing... We lack any means of holding the advantage in an aerial battle... Climbing up is no different from a death sentence!” Alex said coldly.
