Chapter 1960: I Have to Face It
Chapter 1960: I Have to Face It
She was the daughter to father, the wife to a husband, and the mother to a son.
There were countless more women bearing the same identities across the Douluo Continent, and in order to ensure that as few people as possible suffered the same pain that she had, she had to step forward.
She had to fight for the happiness and welfare of more people.
In the instant that her family passed away, the past Mo Lan had already died; what lived in her place now was only a courageous shell, one that was brave enough to face everything.
"Sister Mo Lan!" Tang Wulin suddenly called out.
Mo Lan stopped in her tracks and turned back to look at him.
Tang Wulin took a deep before making his way over to Mo Lan, then spread his arms to embrace her.
A smile appeared on Mo Lan's face through the tears as she basked in the warmth of his embrace.
"I'm your family, Sister Mo Lan; you're not alone in this world." Tang Wulin also had tears streaming down her face.
"Seeing as we can't run away, then let's face this crisis with courage in our hearts!"
Outside Shrek City, everyone was busy at work.
"Over there, yes, that goes over there. How is the installation surveillance system coming along? Has it been connected with our satellites yet? Has the construction of the soul missile array been completed? What? You still need one more hour? I'll give you 20 more minutes at most! If it's not done within 20 minutes, you know what's coming to you! Make sure to store the soul missiles safely, and no one is allowed to use any lighters or set any fires near the storage facility. Yes, I'm aware that fires won't normally affect soul missiles; I'm not an idiot! I'm just taking extra precautionary measures.
"If the storage unit is detonated, the entire city will go down! Oi, is there a screw loose in your head or something? Is that how you're supposed to set up that system module? You're going to wasting at least five extra minutes with the way you're doing it! Who taught you to install it like this? What a bunch of incompetent idiots you all are! Can you do anything without my supervision?"
An overbearing voice was ringing out incessantly, but strangely enough, everyone accepted the abuse without any protests and continued working diligently.
Ling Zichen was clad in a set of activewear, and her forehead was glistening with sweat as she barked one order after another. She was standing on a small hoverboard that allowed her to travel at altitudes below 10 meters at a high speed. This was something that she had invented herself, and it hadn't gone into mass production yet.
It had already been four days since Tang Wulin's agreement with Gu Yuena, and the first batch of troops from the Central Legion had already arrived at Shrek City with a supply of resources.
If the soul beast army wanted to conquer this plane, then their first obstacle would be Shrek City. The defense systems of Shrek City had all already been completed, and the only silver lining on this dreadful situation was that the researchers of the Tang Sect were all ordinary people or possessed lowly cultivation ranks, which meant that they were unable to fuse with black soul spirits or enter the Myriad Beast Plane, so none of them had fallen under Gu Yuena's control.
Currently, Ling Zichen was supervising them as they set up a defensive line.
Prior to the battle against the abyssal plane, she had only been renowned in the Tang Sect, but now, she was a household name across the entire continent, renowned as the heroine who had destroyed the Blood River Godslayer Array, then came back from the brink of death only to sacrifice herself as the human Eternal Heaven.
It could be said that she had died twice on that battlefield, and her heroic spirit had earned her immense accolades.
Following the emergence of the human army, she was the one to step up and assume the leadership of the Tang Sect's researchers. During these past few days where Tang Wulin had been wallowing in despair, Ling Zichen had already become the temporary leader of Shrek City.
In light of her heroic display on the northern front, even the officials of the Central Legion were more than willing to follow her orders. They had all fought alongside one another in that battle, and having witnessed Ling Zichen's feats in person, they held nothing but respect and admiration for her.
After issuing a series of instructions, Ling Zichen looked up at the nine-colored light shimmering in the sky, and grumbled, "Who does this bitch think she is? I can't believe Wulin fell for someone like her. Hmph, you're lucky I don't have Eternal Heaven anymore. Otherwise, I'll blast you out of existence and take Tang Wulin for myself! Even without Eternal Heaven, you're not getting out of this alive; I've brought out my ultimate trump card this time!"
Right at this moment, a handkerchief suddenly appeared on her forehead, and she was quite startled by this.
She reflexively tried to pull back, only to discover that it was only someone wiping the sweat from her forehead.
"Who's there? Get your hand off me! Do you have a death wish?" Ling Zichen immediately flared up with rage.
"You were talking about me just now, weren't you?" A resigned voice rang out in response, and only now did Ling Zichen discover that it was Tang Wulin who had appeared beside her.
Currently, he was wearing his Shrek Academy uniform, and the crisp green uniform was giving off an air of exuberance and vitality.
"What do you want?" Ling Zichen snapped.
Tang Wulin smiled, and said, "I just want to know what that ultimate trump card you were just talking about is."
Ling Zichen rolled her eyes in response. "Why should I tell you?"
Tang Wulin heaved a resigned sigh. "Thank you, Zichen."
Ling Zichen faltered slightly upon hearing this, having completely failed to anticipate such a reaction from Tang Wulin.
"Don't get all sappy on me!" she snapped as she turned her head away.
Tang Wulin smiled, and said, "Alright, then I'll leave you to your work."
"Wait!" Ling Zichen called out.
"What is it?" Tang Wulin asked.
"Are you alright?" Ling Zichen asked, and her voice finally softened a little.
Tang Wulin smiled, and replied, "Regardless of what hardships arise, I have to face it, not just for myself, but for the survival of countless other people." He rose up into the air as he spoke, then waved Ling Zichen farewell before departing.
Looking on at his departing figure, a series of complex emotions flashed through Ling Zichen's eyes.
Once again, the Spirit Pagoda and Shrek Academy were pitted against one another; perhaps they were destined to be enemies.
First, it was the Qiangu Family colluding with the Holy Spirit Cult to bomb Shrek City, and now, it was Gu Yuena controlling countless high-grade Soul Masters and leading the soul beast army on a revenge mission against the human race. On both occasions, Shrek Academy had to bear the full brunt of the crises.
Even to this day, the Shrek City bombing was fresh in everyone's minds; that was a disaster that had claimed millions of lives!
Perhaps this was a tribulation that the Douluo Continent had to face.
First, it was the Holy Spirit Cult and the abyssal plane, and now, it was the Myriad Beast Plane. These calamities weren't just hurting the living beings of the continent physically, but also mentally.
The entire continent was in a state of panic, and there was no way to keep this latest crisis a secret, so order could only be forcibly maintained through the military.
As the new president, Mo Lan was trying to earn the trust of the people through her actions. She had already arrived at Shrek City, and she had declared to everyone that if the soul beast army wanted to conquer the continent, then they would have to step over her dead body.
Furthermore, she candidly discussed the relationship between human Soul Masters and soul beasts, admitting that all of this was a result of the crimes the human race had committed against the soul beasts.
Tang San, Tang Hao, and Ah Yin had resolved the issue of the ailing life energy on the Douluo Star, but the soul beasts were still on the brink of extinction.
