Chapter 94 – Konosuba!
Chapter 94 – Konosuba!
When I opened my eyes in the other world, a soft, cool breeze enveloped me, and as I looked around, I realized that I was on top of a high hill, surrounded by green hills and vast plains that stretched as far as the eye could see.
The distant sound of birds was echoing, and below me, on the horizon, was a medieval city.
The city was very large and had a circular shape, just as I remembered it. It was surrounded by a stone wall and had many stone houses with red roofs.
I knew exactly where I was.
"I really am in Konosuba. I'll never get tired of this ability of mine," I murmured, allowing a smile to form on my face. "So this is where my short journey begins."
Unlike the worlds I came from, this one seemed more... peaceful. Though I knew that could change at any moment.
The first thing that crossed my mind was obvious. If this world worked as I hoped, then the first step would be to register as an adventurer. It would not only be a way to earn money, but also to build a reputation in this place.
"First stop: Adventurers' Guild." I said to myself as I walked down the hill.
The path down to the town was well marked, a dirt road that snaked between the hills, flanked by bushes and sparse trees.
I could see small streams running parallel to the road, their clear water sparkling in the sunlight. From time to time, some strange creature would appear in the distance, but nothing seemed threatening to me after facing Kokabiel.
Unlike other worlds where ferocious monsters lurked around every corner, this world seemed more... friendly, and that's exactly why I chose this place.
As I approached the city, I saw that many people were moving around. Most of them were farmers and adventurers.
"Welcome to Axel, Leonard," I murmured, recognizing the name of the town from the original story. I smiled.
Upon entering the town itself, the first thing I did was ask one of the passersby for the Adventurers' Guild. A stocky man with a thick beard and simple workman's clothes looked me up and down before pointing to a larger building a short distance away, where a large wooden sign reading "Adventurers' Guild" swayed in the wind.
"Thank you," I replied, nodding and walking in the direction indicated.
The guild was exactly what I expected: busy, energetic, and a certain organized chaos. The building was large, with dark stone walls, and its interior was filled with tables where adventurers of all kinds laughed, drank, and discussed their latest quests. In the back, there was a large bulletin board covered with posters, presumably listing the available quests. In the middle was a long counter where a couple of receptionists attended to the adventurers, organizing papers and records.
As I entered, I was greeted by curious looks. It reminded me that in worlds like this, outsiders or newcomers often attract attention. Not that I minded - in fact, it was a good thing. It meant they noticed me.
I walked up to the counter and waited my turn. When my turn came, a young woman with blonde hair, honey-colored eyes, a friendly smile, and two exceptional pairs of breasts greeted me.
"Welcome to the Adventurers' Guild! Hmm... I don't know your face, and you look quite young to me. Have you come to register?" Luna asked.
"Yes, I want to become an adventurer."
She smiled and took out a simple form, which she placed in front of me. "Perfect! I need you to fill out this basic information and then we'll have everything ready for your registration."
I took the quill and parchment and began to write. Name, age, basic skills... It was pretty simple. I had to lie about all my skills, both to the system and to Ddraig. Once I'd filled out the form, I handed it back to Luna, who quickly checked it.
"Everything looks fine." She got up and went into a room behind the counter.
A minute later she returned with a small metal plate and a simple bracelet.
"This is your adventurer's license. Wear it whenever you go on a mission. The bracelet indicates your skill level and increases as you complete missions for the guild."
"Thank you." I said, placing the bracelet on my wrist. It was light and almost unnoticeable.
Then she smiled again and pointed to the large quest board. "When you're ready, you can pick up your first mission there. Oh, and if you need any advice, I'm here! There are a lot of other new adventurers here as well, and I would advise you to take advantage of the fact that you haven't done any quests yet to try and make a bond with someone."
Unconsciously, I ignored her suggestion of forming a group. I just nodded and walked over to the board with my eyes on it.
Most of the quests for adventurers were quite simple, like hunting small monsters in the neighborhood, because in Konosuba, there was no actual leveling order for adventurers, but rather a consensus on the strengths of the classes. For example, the first classes were: Adventurer, Warrior, Thief, Priest, and Mage. Later on, the classes demanded more power, so they became more powerful than the previous ones. Some of these more powerful classes were Crusader, Knight, Swordsman, Elementalist, and so on.
So I couldn't be too greedy for my mission. I had my eye on one of the posters that mentioned hunting "giant frogs", which were apparently common in the region and caused some problems for the farmers. It was an entry-level mission, but the rewards seemed decent for someone just starting out.
Just as I was about to decide whether or not to accept the quest, an unexpected commotion behind me distracted me.
The guild doors burst open with a vengeance, slamming against the walls with a bang that drew the attention of everyone in the place to the entrance. A strange couple entered the hall, and from the way they were arguing, it looked like they were in the middle of a childish fight.
"I told you it was an accident!" shouted a young man with messy brown hair. He wore a shabby green cloak and carried a short sword strapped to his waist, though his posture suggested that he was far from a skilled warrior.
"Accident?!" shouted a woman with long blue hair. Her expression was one of exaggerated indignation. "You broke into the bathroom while I was taking a shower! That was no accident, Kazuma! You wanted to spy on me!"
"Spy on you?!" Kazuma rolled his eyes and sighed deeply, as if he was used to such accusations. "Believe me, Aqua, if there's one thing I wouldn't do on purpose, it's spy on you. I just walked in by accident!"
I lowered my head and laughed briefly, seeing in person a scene I had only seen in 2D. I just didn't expect my short laugh to catch their attention amidst all the screaming.
"Did that kid just laugh at us?" Kazuma whispered.
"Of course he did, after all we both came in screaming..." Aqua whispered.
Embarrassed, they both sat down at a guild table.
My original intentions in the world of Konosuba were not perverted. In fact, I only chose this world because I thought it would be easy to kill a lot of monsters, gain attributes, and become stronger. However, Aqua had a truly... divine beauty.
