Chapter 276: Kraken (1)
Chapter 276: Kraken (1)
Hearing the shouts and screams from the other players, Lucan ran up towards the main deck of the ship.
As he left the ships hold, the strong winds pushed him around as the rain came drenched the deck. He did his best not to slip in the rolling waves that were shaking the ship back and forth.
"BOSS FIGHT!!!!!" Super suddenly yelled out as eight tentacles reached out from the ocean, each stretching over thirty feet into the air.
A tentacle came slamming down hard.
*Crunch*
The wooden ship groaned as splinters flew in several directions. The kraken had taken a good four foot section out of the ship with only a single blow. The players realized that this wasn't good. With only a dozen hits, the creature would be able to send their ship to the bottom of the sea.
"Lower the sails and cut lose from the pirate ship." Super yelled to the sailors.
If they just stood here and waited it would only be waiting for their death.
The crew was scarred out of their wits, but they eventually began to move. The strong wind's of the storm filled the sails in an instant and began to push them across the water.
As the ship pulled away, several tentacles stretched out of the water and began to wrap around the vessel, stopping their movements and bringing them to a halt. The section of tentacle in front of Lucan was over six feet tall and six feet thick.
With his dagger and sword in hand he, like the rest of the players, began to attack at the exposed flesh. The warlock made sure to use all the melee thief moves he had learned and brough the corruption counter all the way to its limits before he unleashed that damage over time attack as an explosion.
All though the kraken's health was falling, its health bar wasn't moving very fast. Currently, the players didn't feel very good about the fight, simply because the creature could flee at anytime and they wouldn't be able to stop it.
*Rumble* *Boom*
A crack of thunder brought Lucan back to his senses. If melee attack were less than satisfactory, he always had magic.
Lucan dagger transformed back into a wand while his sword was used to build up another wave of corruption in the tentacle that was wrapping around the ships. The warlock launched a beam of soul fire that began to chip away at the creature's health, ever so slowly. Once he had built up another wave of corruption, Lucan drained out all his mana while using telekinetic slashes and shadow bolts to damage the same spot over and over.
Lucan stepped back while he recovered his mana. He prepared to charge in with his melee weapons when a knight pushed past him. The knight pulled out a long steel javelin while running towards the edge of the ship. Lucan had expected the night to throw it into the tentacle and attack like everyone else, but the knight didn't. He got to the edge of the ship and then starred towards the sky and waited.
The tentacles that were wrapped around the ship began to tighten.
*Crack* *Crunch* *Groan*
The ship made awful noises while it struggled to maintain its shape. The wood mage had his work cut out for him. Without his efforts the entire ship would have already collapsed and sunk into the sea.
Even though the ship was coming closer to destruction, the knight who ran to its edge just kept staring at the sky. He was waiting. But his wait didn't last long. When the man saw a few faint flashes in the sky, he pulled back his arm and looked into the sea. He traced the several tentacles to their origin and took aim at where he believed the main body of the kraken would be.
"AHHH!"
Letting out a roar while summoning every ounce of strength, the knight threw the javelin with all his might, straight into the sea.
*Rumble* *Boom*
Thunder rolled and lightning struck. The lightning fell straight down on the javelin that was plunging into the sea. As the powerful arcs of electricity dove into the water, it lit up the dark sea. For the first time, everyone was able to see the outline of the massive creature that they were fighting. It was not an overestimation to say the kraken was five times larger than the ship they were on.
The lightning imbued dagger swam true through the water and struck its target.
"RRAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" And ear piercing screech echoed across the water as the tentacles threw the ship into the air and released it.
The vessel only rose five feet and then fell but it was enough to bring everyone to their knees. The players struggled to get up as the violent waves from the storm pounded into the side of the ship.
"YEAH!!!!!"
"Let's kill this thing!"
"We can bring it down!"
The players cheered because that one attack had removed 20% of the creature's health. The lightning javelin put the rest of their attacks to shame. But nobody was embarrassed because they had figured out the key to taking down the creature.
The cheering stopped when the eight tentacles came out of the water again, this time they were attacking with an intensity that wasn't previously seen. The tentacles grabbed the ship while another two curled around the main mast.
The mast was snapped in only a moment and then tossed into the sea, like the beast was flicking away a tooth pick.
The rear mast wasn't spared either. The wood mage was protecting the hull of the ship because if he didn't they would likely start sinking within thirty seconds, but because of the, he wasn't able to protect the masts.
The tentacles that wrapped the ship began to pull, as if they wanted to turn the ship over.
The knight and a few others stood by the edge of the sip with spears and javelins in hand but the clouds showed no warning signs of unleashing another lightning bolt.
*Creak* *Groan*
The players attack the tentacles but the creature held the ship firms as it began to slowly start rolling it over. The players waiting at the side continued to wait, the problem was, that if the storm cloud didn't throw another bolt of lightning within a minute, the ship would be on its side and the players would be in the water.
A druid from the Willow organization released his transformation. He had taken the form of a lion and was attacking the tentacle but now he transformed back into the shape of a man. He grasped his staff and began to chant his spell. Just from the fact that his hair began to float and the mans eyes went completely white, they were able to guess that this was a powerful spell, maybe one he could cast only a single time a day, or maybe even once a week.
When the druid slammed his staff on the deck, everyone could feel their skin begin to tingle. He then pointed his staff towards the water where the kraken should be hiding.
*Rumble* *Rumble* *Boom* *Boom* *Boom*
Lightning began to fall in waves as twelve consecutive strikes pounded into the sea. The players who were holding on to the edge of the ship release their spears and javelins. A few managed to be struck by lightning before they flew into the sea.
"RRAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" The kraken roared again.
