Chapter 19
C19 – Mo Yangtian’s Pride
The Third Elder occupies a position of significant influence within the Mo family. Mo Changyou’s audacity to challenge him is sheer folly. He’s practically signing his own death warrant,” the elders said with a scoff, fully aware of the Third Elder’s vindictive nature.
In the Mo family, anyone who incited the wrath of the Third Elder, with the exception of Mo Lianshen, led a life of abject misery.
“The Second Master was left crippled as a direct result of the Third Elder’s vendetta. Without the intervention of the Patriarch, both the Second Master and his son, Mo Changyou, would have endured great hardship. Now, Mo Changyou has gone out of his way to provoke the Third Elder; he’s truly asking for trouble,” an elder commented in private, shaking his head in disbelief.
He regarded Mo Changyou before him as though he were already a goner.
It was common knowledge that the Third Elder held grudges over the slightest offenses and wielded considerable power within the Mo family, to the extent that even the Patriarch struggled to rein him in.
“I hope you decide against entering the Family Competition, or else I will personally make sure you’re left without the use of your limbs!” Mo Yangtian threatened with a menacing glare, his eyes narrowed and filled with lethal intent as he looked down on Mo Changyou as if he were already incapacitated.
Mo Yangtian’s superior stance and cold smirk sent shivers down the spines of many disciples. He was all but guaranteed to take the top spot in the upcoming Family Competition. If Mo Yangtian set his sights on someone during the event, that person’s fate was all but sealed.
“It seems Mo Changyou is fated not to show up at this year’s Family Competition,” whispered a disciple.
The Family Competition was a pivotal event for the Mo family, determining not only the distribution of resources but also the balance of power. Had the Second Master and the Patriarch seen their influence wane because they lacked strength?
That wasn’t the whole story. A significant factor was the poor performance of their progeny in the Family Competition.
The prowess of the Mo family’s younger generation was a key determinant of the family’s overall strength, which is why the competition was held in such high regard by many.
“After the competition, we’ll see if you can still talk so tough. Don’t end up like your brother, who failed in his attempt to ambush me and couldn’t even get back up,” Mo Changyou responded coolly, unfazed by Mo Yangtian’s murderous aura.
This revelation left everyone in shock. What exactly was happening?
Was Mo Yangning really bested by Mo Changyou?
Impossible!
Mo Yangning was the Mo family’s most formidable prodigy under sixteen, second only to Mo Yunyun. And Mo Changyou? He was nothing more than a waste with a mere Grade Nine Talent. How could he have managed such a feat?
The statement left Mo Yangtian and the Third Elder dumbfounded.
The Third Elder’s gaze, laden with lethal intent, bore into Mo Changyou.
His prized son, Mo Yangning, defeated by this nobody? Inconceivable.
Yet, the undeniable truth was that Mo Yangning had sustained a severe blow. Clearly, it wasn’t the work of a Puppet. And given Mo Yunyun’s temperament, she wouldn’t have laid a finger on Mo Yangning.
That left only one possibility within the Azure Dragon Pagoda: Mo Changyou was the only one capable of inflicting such damage on Mo Yangning, aside from Mo Yunyun.
“You’re Second Master’s son, all right. Just like him. I only hope you don’t end up walking his path,” Mo Yanglin said, his fists clenched, his brooding eyes fixed on Mo Changyou.
This was the first time the Third Elder harbored such intense malice toward a youngster at Energy Condensation Level 3.
His words couldn’t have been clearer.
The tale of the Second Master’s downfall was common knowledge among the Mo family.
“My own merits are inconsequential. I just hope the Third Elder’s sons avoid the path my father took,” Mo Changyou responded, his smile unfazed by the Third Elder’s menacing words.
With a contemptuous snort, the Third Elder swept his sleeves and walked off, his back to Mo Changyou. Mo Yangtian, following close behind, shot a venomous look at Mo Changyou.
It was common knowledge that a feud had been born that day between the Third Elder and Mo Changyou. And with the Third Elder’s temperament, if the Patriarch couldn’t shield Mo Changyou, his fate was sealed.
Mo Lianshen watched Mo Yanglin’s retreating figure, then turned his gaze to Mo Changyou.
“If his father had been as quick-witted as he is, how could he have been brought so low?”
Mo Lianshen shook his head, remembering how Mo Feng’s rigid integrity led to his downfall over a woman.
“Follow me,” Mo Lianshen beckoned to Mo Changyou.
“Of course, Uncle,” Mo Changyou replied promptly, eliciting a slight smile from Mo Lianshen. Indeed, Mo Changyou had a sharper tongue than his father.
As Mo Lianshen swept his long sleeves aside, the two of them soared into the air.
The spectacle left the elders and disciples in a state of awe and wonder.
“He overcame Mo Yangning and ascended to the ninth floor? He must have resorted to some cunning strategy. I will defeat him in the upcoming Family Competition!” Mo Fei, who held Mo Changyou in contempt, watched his rival’s retreating figure and tightened his fists, his gaze brimming with murderous intent.
Mo Changyou’s rise to the ninth level marked him as a prodigy within the family. Mo Fei pondered whether defeating Mo Changyou would grant him the same status.
If so, he would secure his legacy within the Mo family.
What did it matter that Mo Changyou had reached the ninth floor of the Azure Dragon Pagoda? He was confident he would triumph over him.
“Mo Changyou, wait and see!” With these thoughts, a smug smile crept onto Mo Fei’s face.
Meanwhile, Mo Lianshen had escorted Mo Changyou to a quaint courtyard. Observing Mo Changyou, Mo Lianshen’s eyes reflected a measure of respect and admiration.
