Chapter 2: System Acquired!
Chapter 2: System Acquired!
Six days passed before Shye was able to wake up.
His body was badly damaged so the hermit prioritized his recovery first.
Shye looked around after opening his eyes. They seem to be in some kind of wooden shack deep inside the beginner adventurer zone.
He suddenly remembered that his little sister was still sick so he hurriedly got out of bed and tried to look for his little sister.
Shye saw a small room at the corner of the wooden shack so he hurriedly ran towards the room to check if his little sister was there.
His eyes widened upon seeing his little sister lying on the bed. She was sleeping so peacefully to the point that Shye thought that she was already dead.
His heartbeat started to slow down after realizing that his little sister was just asleep. It seems that her condition is fine for now.
Shye sat on the floor with tears welling up in his eyes.
"Maia...Thank God you're alright!"
He thought to himself.
"Oh? You seem to be fine now young lad."
Shye hurriedly turned to look in the direction of the unfamiliar voice.
Upon turning around, he saw a regular old man. The old man was so ordinary that you would think that he was just a next-door grandpa.
"W-Who might you be?"
Shye asked apprehensively.
"Hmmm? Oh, pardon my change in appearance. I'm the person who you called a hermit a few days ago."
"S-Sir Hermit?! I must say your appearance change is quite likable"
"Hahahaha what a straightforward brat! Well then, I completed my end of the deal. Shall we discuss yours?"
Hearing what the hermit said, Shye's expression became serious.
"Thank you for saving me and my sister, I will never forget this favor as long as I live. As for your conditions, I'm all ears.
"Hohoho what a polite lad. Well then, let's start with my story, shall we? Oh boy, this will be a long one!"
"You see, I'm not originally from this world. I was hit by a vehicle called a "truck" in a world called Earth and lost consciousness."
"By the time I regained my consciousness, I was already in this world along with some of my stuff from the other world."
"W-What? H-How can such things happen? Are you sure you're not making this all up? Maybe Sir Hermit has gone senile! Oh no! How could I repay him if he's already senile?!"
Veins popped on the hermit's head after being called a senile old fart by Shye.
"Listen here, kid! I'm totally fine! All that I said was true. Whether you believe it or not, it's up to you!"
Shye was confused but he just chose to believe the old man.
After seeing that the kid was finally willing to listen again, the hermit continued talking.
"Anyway, I was a pretty talented adventurer when I first started. I had tremendous talents as a mage and after graduating at the top of my mage class at an adventurer academy, I rapidly raised my adventurer rank.
"I eventually reached the top around fifty years ago. My name is ... Sanada Eiichiro..."
Upon hearing the name of the old man, Shye's eyes widened in shock.
Sanada Eiichiro "The Voidweaver!"
Seeing Shye's shocked facial expression, The old man smiled in satisfaction.
"S-S-Sir Voidweaver! W-Why are you hiding in this beginner adventurer zone?!"
Shye couldn't help but ask. He just knew of the Voidweaver's feats but he didn't know what happened after they sealed the abyssal dragon.
In response, the old man laughed self-deprecatingly and said
"So much for being the "Voidweaver", in the end, I'm just a wanted old man now hiding in the forest from authorities."
"After sealing the black dragon, can you believe that the share that I got from the rewards can be considered peanuts when compared to that bastard Dweezel?!"
"Oh! Just remembering it makes me quiver with anger up until this day!"
Dweezel Hawkins! The leader of the hero party that sealed the abyssal dragon!
"In addition to the reward, even my name pales in comparison to him! But if you just knew what happened, that Dweezel only had minor contributions and even almost cost us our lives!"
"If only I did things in a flashier way! It should be me who's acknowledged as the number one contributor in that fight!"
Shye could feel the regrets and resentment of the old man through his words.
He felt bad for the old man because it was indeed Dweezel Hawkins who was hailed as the strongest adventurer fifty years ago and even now, he's still famous while the old man's name is only mentioned because of Dweezel.
Shye snapped out of his thoughts as the old man suddenly took out a device.
"This is called a laptop and this device helped me complete my creation called a system."
"System?"
Shye asked with a confused face.
"Yes, a system. By combining my knowledge in magic along with a bit of knowledge in soul arts, I finally found a way to transfer this system to the body of another person."
"Unfortunately, I cannot transfer it to myself because I'm a fugitive and I'm also already old now."
"Soul Arts! No wonder Sir Voidweaver was hunted down."
Shye thought to himself.
"My request to you is, I want you to be the inheritor of the system I created."
"Through this system, my soul and consciousness can feel specific feelings from other people that are directed towards you."
"Two feelings, namely, awe and admiration. As respect for the inheritor, I made sure to only be able to feel these two feelings."
"Other feelings directed towards you such as "lust" for example, will not be transmitted to me."
"I see, will there be bad side effects? How does the system work?"
Shye asked old man Sanada.
In response, old man Sanada chuckled and said
"There are no side effects. As for how the system works, I will only tell you the basics, as for the rest, you can study it yourself."
"With your intellect, it should be easy for you to figure out how to use the system to its full potential."
"The system can detect feelings of awe and admiration directed towards you and for each person that admires you or is in awe of your feats, you shall be rewarded with a point."
"You can then use the points to purchase various advantages for yourself through the system. As for the specific advantages, just check them yourself."
"That's basically how it works."
After hearing how the so-called "system" works, Shye was pleasantly surprised.
He thought that the old man had some kind of ridiculous request but it turns out, he just wanted to feel the awe and admiration he should've felt back when he was a member of the hero party.
Shye was surprised at the simplicity of the request. Not only were there no disadvantages, but he even felt that he was lucky to be chosen by old man Sanada for this lifelong mission!
"I gratefully accept your request, Sir Sanada. I feel honored to be chosen but...Are you really fine with entrusting your life's work to me? I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of people stronger than me..."
Shye honestly said
"Hohoho, Don't worry, strength will come naturally to you. The reason why I chose you is because of your trustworthy character and your strong willpower so don't overthink it and just use my system to your heart's content!"
Old man Sanada said as he smiled at Shye.
"Well then, do you have any more questions? If none, then I shall install the system to your body!"
Shye took a deep breath and said
"I'm ready Sir Sanada, you can begin transferring the system to me."
Sanada smiled after hearing Shye's response.
"Thank you, lad, I owe you one..."
Sanada muttered to himself.
He then took a booger-shaped pill made of edible metal and fed it to Shye.
Shye didn't resist and just ate the pill as instructed by old man Sanada.
He felt sleepy after taking the pill and after a few more minutes, Shye lost consciousness.
Old man Sanada quickly used the laptop to boot the installer of the system.
A holographic user interface appeared in front of the unconscious Shye.
