Flashy Adventurer System : Show Off to Get Stronger!

Chapter 359: Rising Stars and Heroes

"You've truly shown them who's the boss, boss!" Seira exclaimed excitedly after catching up.

There were two things she would never regret: arguing against Shye's haters and betting all of her money on Shye's victory.

Speaking of bets, both were on the way to the betting station to claim their winnings with bright smiles on their faces.

After all, 3000 gold coins was not a small sum for Shye.

On the flip side, while Seira's winnings of 900 gold coins were less than Shye's, they still left her ecstatic.

She had never saved more than two hundred gold coins before, and to her, that sum was enormous as it was more than enough to ensure that her family would live a comfortable life for as long as they remained in this world.

Moreover, she could purchase a few life-saving medicines that would prolong their lives for a few more months, giving her more time to achieve her goals.

On the way, the two of them casually chatted, eventually leading to a conversation that piqued Shye's interest.

"Ahhh…I wonder if you would be one of our region's rising stars?" Seira absentmindedly said, causing Shye's eyebrows to rise in curiosity.

"Rising stars? What's that?"

"Hmm? You seriously don't know, boss? I thought you'd been gunning for that status this whole time!"

"How could I go for it when I don't even know what "rising star" meant?"

"Haha... Hahahaha! Alright, then, let me enlighten you! I, the all-knowing Seira, will tell you! In every region, there's a rising star ranking, open only to rookies who've been adventuring for three years or less." Seira said, walking in front of Shye and posing mysteriously with her hands behind her back as though she was some sort of wise sage.

'This midget…' Amused, Shye watched her subsequent actions and listened intently to her words.

"Rising stars... the region's brightest hopes. Each year, only up to three rookies earn a spot: the champion of the Valenzia Rookie Adventurer Competition, the first-year rookie with the highest guild contribution points across the region, and the rookie who completes the special rising star quest posted on all guild quest boards."

Hearing Seira's words, Shye's brows furrowed.

"Which meant that a maximum of nine rookies would be present on the list each year, correct?"

"As expected of my smart boss, you are correct. However, there were a few instances in the past where there were only five rookies on the list. This could mean both ways, either the generation was untalented or absurdly talented."

"Oh? And why is that?"

"Well, sometimes no rookies manage to complete the special quest. And on occasion, the champion of the Valenzia Rookie Adventurer Competition also happens to be the rookie with the most guild contribution points..."

"Hmm…then what happens when a rookie achieves all three?"

"Then that rookie would be the only one to make it onto the rising star list for that year, and would also become the region's first-ever hero candidate. While there were a few more milestones to achieve before being recognized as a regional hero, becoming a candidate was the most challenging step.

Although there were various paths to become a candidate, this method was likely the simplest and most direct."

"Hoh? Hero candidate huh? And what benefits does one obtain when one becomes a regional hero?"

"That…I don't know…"

"Hah! And I thought you were the all-knowing Seira! What a fraud! A sham!"

"W-Wha? Boss! I'm not an encyclopedia! How could I possibly know everything?"

"Hahahaha! Stupid, I'm just joking. How do I join the Valenzia Rookie Adventurer Competition then?"

"Hmm? Just win Balkrow City's Rookie Adventurer Competition and you will be sent to Valenzia City half a year later to participate in the most prestigious rookie competition in Valenzia Region!"

"Hoh? I see…"

Grinning from ear to ear at the thought of earning more points, Shye continued asking.

After squeezing all the important information out of Seira, the two of them arrived at the betting station two minutes later.

Luckily, this one didn't make things hard for them and simply gave them their winnings—albeit sourly.

Well, it was hard to let go of 3,900 gold coins so the manager's slightly bitter reaction when he handed the money over to Shye and Seira was understandable.

The two of them didn't care though, as long as they got their money—all goods.

"Well then, boss! I shall return home for now. Thank you for yet another gift!" Seira enthusiastically said, bowing to Shye as she did so.

"You're the one who dared bet on me, no need to thank me."

Going their separate ways, Shye went and enjoyed the rest of his day by touring Balkrow, sending letters to Shirley and Maia, and eating in fancy restaurants.

Then, once the blue heavenly canvas turned dark, he returned to Heaven's Gate, the inn he always rested at.

Thoughts of buying property in Balkrow City crossed his mind, but he ultimately chose not to.

Considering how things were progressing, it wouldn't be long before he earned a promotion.

To a higher-ranked branch? To the main branch in Valenzia? He didn't know.

Still, the thought of finally having enough strength to at least look for his parents excited him to no end.

'Soon…'

Doing something was always better than doing nothing and would undoubtedly make him feel even better.

Lost in his thoughts, Shye realized that his fame was growing by the day.

'A few evil bastards would probably set their eyes on me soon and it might be difficult to even complete a quest…' He sighed as he entered the room he rented.

There were lots of evil organizations in Adthiopia and he was sure that there were bound to be a few powerful ones in Valenzia.

He knew the guild would do their best to protect him, but... they couldn't be there to guard him every moment, especially when he was out solo adventuring.

'I have lots of money and points now, might as well prepare for the future and purchase a few life-saving skills and items!'
