Chapter 377: Last Stand
[Congratulations! You've earned 21,800 points!]
"B-Brooke! He must be acting! There's no way your spell didn't hurt him! Believe in yourself!"
"That's right! Don't lose heart, this guy is probably on the verge of defeat! Push him a little more and he'll go down!"
Brooke's guildmates swiftly interjected to counter Seira's words, concerned that they might shake her heart.
Indeed, they made the right choice by providing words of encouragement as Seira's irritating voice and words further unsettled Brooke's heart which was already in utter shock and disbelief.
'Right…This guy must be bluffing…'
Reorganizing her thoughts after a subtle deep breath, Brooke narrowed her eyes and faked a playful smile.
"Wow... Your physique is surprisingly robust for a mage. Though, I'm skeptical it's as sturdy as you claim, hahaha!" She said while hiding a deep gaze beneath a naughty one, keenly observing even the subtlest of Shye's movements in hopes of exposing his inner thoughts.
Unfortunately, even with her sharp senses, she didn't notice anything out of the blue.
She knew that there was a high possibility that Shye was faking everything, however, she couldn't help but doubt her judgment as Shye's expression appeared to be genuine.
'No, it can't be, I refuse to believe that a clean hit like that did nothing!'
Well... her attack did have some effect, but whatever it accomplished was insignificant against Shye's sturdy constitution.
Sadly, she would never have the chance to know that Shye had two classes: mage and warrior.
If she knew, her morale would probably remain intact.
Still, although in shambles internally, Brooke tried her best to valiantly fight back.
Equipped solely with sheer determination, she wielded her elemental staff against Shye, adeptly evading his incredibly lethal spells using her repositioning skills.
She then ferociously fought back, firing spells with ridiculously fast acceleration speed, compelling Shye to employ his own repositioning skills to evade.
Witnessing the intense back-and-forth projectile battle, the crowd slowly stood up, awestruck as they erupted into thunderous cheers a few seconds later.
This! Was what they were looking for! A ferocious all-out duel between two of the top ten rookies—both the best of the best amongst mages.
Such a fast-paced, high-intensity fight would surely take a toll on anyone.
Sure enough, after a few more seconds, Brooke panted in exhaustion as her mana reserves plummeted down to half.
Subconsciously looking at Shye's expression, Brooke's heart sank. There was no trace of exhaustion on her opponent's face.
Shye was as relaxed as ever.
'Impossible!' Brooke inwardly exclaimed.
She tried her hardest to remain as calm as possible and encourage herself, however, Shye…slowly became as invincible as his underling advertised as the battle went on.
'I refuse to believe such an absurd claim!'
Gnashing her teeth in frustration, Brooke initiated another spellcasting duel at the same intensity as the one earlier, bringing joy and excitement to the hearts of the crowd.

[Congratulations!....]
Brooke tenaciously held on, however, after around two more minutes of nonstop exchanges, she finally fell to her knees—utterly spent.
Shortly after, she looked again at Shye's expression—a move she shouldn't have done.
'F-F*ck! T-There's just no way this guy's truly invincible! Isn't he just human like the rest of us?! Or…is he not?! What the f*ck is this?!'
Finally, after vehemently resisting for a while, her morale finally collapsed.
One couldn't blame her though, as Shye's face was still as relaxed as ever, appearing as though his spells didn't cost a single mana to cast.
It was inevitable that Brooke's morale would collapse.
Surprisingly, her brain was working rather well despite her heart's collapse.
'I still have my dark elemental spells, I shall make one last stand' Brooke inwardly thought, creating some distance to give herself ample time to cast her strongest spells. 'He should be out of repositioning spells…Spectral Grab!'
Chanting for around two and a half seconds, Shye's frozen thorn barrage almost annihilated her.
Fortunately, she was able to cast her spell and reposition before the lethal ice shards arrived at her previous location.
On the other hand, Shye's entire lower body was now grasped by dark purple abyssal arms, preventing him from moving an inch.
He tried blinking away but unfortunately, the spectral hands prevented him from doing so as it also locked down the space around him.
There was no escape.
Realizing that her plan worked, a somewhat insanely wide smile graced Brooke's face as she inwardly celebrated: 'Yes! I've got you now!...*3 seconds of gibberish*...Summon Wraiths!'
A blood-curdling, ghostly howl suddenly echoed across the four corners of Balkrow Arena, inflicting distress upon the hearts of the mundane folks in the crowd.
Shortly after, three two-meter-tall, floating wraiths emerged from nothingness, looking extremely horrifying in the eyes of the residents and a few of the lower-ranked adventurers.
"GYAOOOOHH!"
The wraiths howled once more before floating aggressively towards Shye, their bony hands armed with sharp claws extending harrowingly as though the three summons couldn't wait to rip Shye apart and devour his soul.
'Tch…what a shitty situation…' Shye inwardly cursed in annoyance. He could easily get himself out of this situation, however, he would have to reveal that he was a warrior.
It seemed that even those who recognized him temporarily forgot the fact that he was a warrior due to his astonishing performance as a mage.
If he, the showoff, didn't take this chance to earn lots of points by performing a grand reveal—hopefully in the finals, then he wouldn't be Shye Crowley.
Aiming both of his elemental staffs toward the unholy spectres, Shye used his reliable barrage combo of fire and ice.
On his left, icy winds coalesced, shaping into sizable, deadly ice shards, while on his right, enormous fiery orbs materialized, raising and lowering the temperature simultaneously.
Soon after, the projectiles continuously flew toward the wraiths, causing a cacophony of fiery explosions and frosty crashes to assault the eardrums of the onlookers.
As the white mist generated by his barrage combo dissipated, Shye's eyes widened.
The wraiths…were unharmed.
