Chapter 55: Turn In
As the white-clothed youth saw the gigantic wolf monster corpse, a strange look flashed in his eyes, as if he had thought of something he shouldn’t have. But then he thought of the strict sect rules, and his own identity as a patrol disciple. The image jade slip from the Patrol Enforcement Hall was always on at all times, so he suppressed those complicated ideas and said, “Okay, show me your jade identity tablet.”
Xu Disheng tossed over the jade tablet, and the white-clothed youth caught it, then swept his consciousness through it. His face changed once again. “Cleansed Meridian stage outer disciple from Mingxin Mountain Range? Entered the sect only 1 month ago?”
Xu Disheng said, “10 spirit stones, Senior Martial Brother.”
The white-clothed youth took a long, good look at Xu Disheng before eventually tossing the jade tablet back to him. Then, he swept the wolf monster corpse into his storage-type Spirit Tool. “Come with me,” he said.
This white-clothed youth, whose name was Meng Yu, was fairly outstanding among the Sea of Qi stage disciples. He was a Rank 6 Spiritual Root, and had good powers of comprehension. He managed to reach the peak of the Sea of Qi stage in a little over 30 years and join the Patrol Enforcement Hall of the Mountain of Law. Today, he was on patrol duty with 4 other people in the Mingxin Sixth Mountain Range.
Meng Yu was slowly riding his flying sword light, occasionally turning around to look at the youth standing on the Spirit Cloud behind him.
Killing a half-transformed wolf monster at the Cleansed Meridians stage? Absolutely no way!
He was fully aware of how formidable a half-transformed wolf monster could be. Only Dao Foundation stage profound cultivators could suppress them. If he, at a peak Sea of Qi stage, were to try fighting that wolf monster, he would probably only be able to win 50% of the time.
Maybe he has an extremely powerful high-grade Spirit Tool on him, or some other kind of highly precious Spirit Tool. But then again, if that were true, why wouldn’t he be able to afford a storage-type Spirit Tool? It makes no sense!
As Meng Yu rode on his flying sword at a low speed so Xu Disheng could keep up with him on his Spirit Cloud, his thoughts were continually clashing and churning within him.
A glint flashed in Meng Yu’s eyes as if he suddenly figured it out. This wolf monster must have been killed by someone else. Perhaps a Dao Foundation stage Lord Deacon or something passed by and killed it, then didn’t feel like picking up the spoils, so this youth must have picked it up.
This was the only explanation he could come up with. There was no way he would be able to wrap his head around the fact that a Cleansed Meridians stage outer disciple could kill a powerful wolf monster.
The sect rules were extremely strict. Harming or murdering other fellow disciples was considered a first-degree crime, and wasn’t pardonable under any circumstances. This included killing other disciples in the sect for their possessions. Meng Yu was a disciple of the Patrol Enforcement Hall, and was considered someone who was obligated to enforce the rules of the sect.
From the moment he saw the wolf monster’s corpse, a hint of greed had already been born within his heart, but this was only human nature. After all, a completely intact half-transformed wolf monster corpse like this one was extremely valuable! No matter who it was, they would all be tempted. But whether they actually acted on that desire, that was entirely up to how strictly they upheld themselves to their own morality and sense of justice.
One in front and one following behind, they eventually arrived at the Mountain Affairs Peak in the Mingxin Mountain Range. Although Meng Yu’s thoughts were all in a jumble, he didn’t show that in the slightest on his face. “I will let you borrow this storage ring for the time being. Go to the Spirit Armament Pavilion of Spirit Origin Hall and turn in the corpse. I will wait for you here,” Meng Yu said, handing over a simple-looking, unadorned storage-type Spirit Tool ring.
Xu Disheng glanced at the ring and replied, “Thank you, Senior Martial Brother.”
Meng Yu wasn’t worried in the slightest about him not returning the ring or running off with it. First of all, he had already taken a look at Xu Disheng’s jade identity tablet, so he knew exactly where he lived in the Mingxin Mountain Outer Region. Second, as a disciple of the Patrol Enforcement Hall, he had a lot of discretionary authority, so it was always him taking advantage of others, never the other way around.
Xu Disheng walked into Spirit Origin Hall and made his way directly to the Spirit Armament Pavilion. On the way, he swept his consciousness through the ring and saw the gigantic wolf monster corpse lying alongside a bunch of other items, but those items were obscured and separated off by mist. Xu Disheng couldn’t take out those other items or see them clearly, most likely due to restrictions that Meng Yu had set beforehand.
Either way, Xu Disheng didn’t have any interest in the personal belongings of others. He entered the Spirit Armament Pavilion and glanced up, noticing right away that the Dao Foundation stage Deacon was present. He was seated on high, and his head was momentarily lowered as he took a sip of spiritual tea. Beside him, there were 4 or 5 attending disciples waiting on standby.
Xu Disheng bowed and said, “Lord Deacon, I have a wolf monster corpse that I would like to turn in.”
The Deacon didn’t even look up, clearly thinking it was just the corpse of a small, ordinary monster. One of the disciples beside him said, “Take it out then. I will assess the intactness of it and settle the sum of spirit stones with you.”
Xu Disheng took out the wolf monster corpse from inside the ring. Even though the hall was vast, the wolf monster’s corpse was by no means small, immediately drawing the gazes of everyone in the room.
The Deacon slowly set down his tea and looked up. In a slightly astonished tone, he said, “A half-transformed wolf monster? Who killed it?”
His words clearly implied that he didn’t think that Xu Disheng killed this monster alone, and Xu Disheng had no need to try and convince him otherwise. “It was a Senior Martial Brother of mine who killed it. I’m here on his behalf to turn it in.”
The Deacon nodded his head. This situation was fairly common, so he didn’t inquire further. He swept his senses over the wolf monster corpse and said, “It can be considered pretty intact. I’ll give you 320 spirit stones for it, but because our Spirit Armament Pavilion collects these materials for the Refining Hall, we have to deduct a commission fee. Your cut would amount to 288 spirit stones in the end.”
Xu Disheng agreed, stepping forward to hand over his jade identity tablet. After the recording process was finished, another disciple took out a storage pouch and tossed it over. “The spirit stones are here, you can check it to make sure.”
The disciple’s tone seemed to imply that he had no intent to take back the storage pouch.
Xu Disheng received the storage pouch and swept his consciousness through it. There was a dimensional space of about 7 cubic meters, and the 288 spirit stones were held within, brimming with concentrated spiritual energy. This storage pouch was the lowest grade of storage artifacts, but it was still worth a little over 10 spirit stones.
The disciple seemed to have guessed Xu Disheng’s doubts, and said, “For all turn-in transactions that exceed 200 spirit stones in value, a complimentary storage pouch of 15 spirit stones in value is included.”
If this wolf monster corpse was sold in the outside world, it would probably sell for a total of around 400 to 500 spirit stones. It was convenient for the disciples to be able to turn in monster materials here at the Spirit Armament Pavilion, but the prices offered by the Spirit Armament Pavilion were always set at the absolute lowest. For them to offer these kinds of complimentary gifts or favors was more or less befitting the circumstances.
Xu Disheng expressed his thanks and put away the storage pouch, then turned around and left the Spirit Armament Pavilion.
One of the attending disciples looked down at the record jade slip in his hand and said, “Outer Disciple Xu Disheng of Mingxin Mountain Range. The first time he came to the Spirit Armament Pavilion, he came to pick up spirit stones and one Daoist Robe. The second time, he purchased a Spirit Cloud refined by a peak disciple. The third time, he turned in an intact wolf monster corpse.”
The Deacon nodded, slightly narrowing his eyes before picking up the spiritual tea once more.
Xu Disheng came out from the Spirit Origin Hall, met once again by the scenery riddled with arbitrary beams of light from all kinds of flying-type Spirit Tools.
Floating on top of a blazing white sword light, Meng Yu was waiting there with his eyes closed.
Xu Disheng rode his Spirit Cloud over to Meng Yu and said, “Senior Martial Brother, I’m returning the ring to you now.”
Meng Yu opened his eyes and received the ring. He glanced at Xu Disheng, then swept his consciousness through the storage ring.
Within the storage dimension, there were 20 spirit stones set neatly in the place where the wolf monster’s corpse had originally been.
