Chapter 36: Second Aunt He Yan

Chapter 36: Second Aunt He Yan

Translator: Exodus Tales Editor: Exodus Tales

When Grandma Jian and Jian Yiling arrived at the Old Jian Residence, He Yan was sitting in the living room. He Yan was the second aunt of the Jian family. She was the wife of Jian Shuxing’s younger brother.

Jian Shuxing had a good relationship with his two younger brothers, Jian Shuhong and Jian Shupeng. The three brothers supported each other and worked together towards a common goal. Together, they strengthened the legacy of the Jian family.

However, the second aunt of the Jian family was quite dissatisfied with Jian Shuxing’s family. She always felt that Jian Shuxing had been given more property and that her husband Jian Shuhong had in turn, suffered a loss.

Furthermore, she felt that Grandpa Jian and Grandma Jian adored Jian Yiling more. This made her feel quite jealous.

She was also worried that Grandpa Jian and Grandma Jian would leave their entire fortune to Jian Yiling.

All of them were the children of the Jian family. She couldn’t let Jian Yiling take advantage of the situation!

When she had heard that Grandma Jian was bringing Jian Yiling over to live with her, she was unable to hold back and decided to bring her son over as well.

Right now, her son, Jian Yujie was being interrogated in the studio regarding his studies by Grandpa Jian.

Grandma Jian wasn’t surprised at all when she saw He Yan. He Yan often brought Jian Yujie along to the Old Residence to see them.

After He Yan greeted Grandma Jian, her eyes fell on Jian Yiling.

“Yiling, you’ve grown even more beautiful.” He Yan said as she took Jian Yiling’s hand. The smile on her face appeared to look very kind.

Before He Yan was married to Jian Shuhong, she was a known actress. She had a good grasp of how to control her expression.

“Mhmm,” Jian Yiling replied as she tried to remove her hand from He Yan’s grasp. However, He Yan held her hand a bit too tight so she couldn’t pull her hand out. Jian Yiling didn’t want to hurt her hand.

“Is something wrong Yiling? Didn’t you like me before? Did you encounter something unhappy at school? Talk to me. Maybe I can help you come up with some ideas!” He Yan noticed that Jian Yiling’s reaction was a little strange.

Previously, Jian Yiling had a good relationship with He Yan. This was because He Yan was good at speaking and acting. She constantly complimented and coaxed Jian Yiling who was still young.

Jian Yiling didn’t know that He Yan was intentionally doing this. She wanted Jian Yiling to become a girl who was undisciplined and who didn’t know right from wrong. The more wrong Yiling did, the more she would benefit.

In the original novel, a lot of the stupid things that Jian Yiling did later on were due to He Yan’s ideas.

Jian Yiling leaned her body backward. There was an obvious intention to avoid He Yan. However, He Yan still inched forward.

When Grandma Jian saw this, she expressed her dissatisfaction. “My darling has been in a bad mood recently. Don’t cause trouble. You’ll scare her.”

Grandma Jian didn’t like He Yan much. Out of the three daughters-in-law of the Jian family, her eldest and youngest son had married wives from families of the same social status. Only her second son had married the female actress He Yan.

Grandma Jian’s dislike was not due to He Yan’s status or occupation. Grandma Jian dislike was because of the way that He Yan handled matters.

If it weren’t for her second son loving He Yan, Grandma Jian would have definitely picked a wife that was well-matched in social status.

However, Grandma Jian’s dislike for He Yan was relative to the other daughter-in-laws. She hadn’t troubled He Yan after she joined the family. This was her son’s life to live and not hers.

However, when it came to Jian Yiling, Grandma Jian had always been protective of her.

Even if her grandsons provoked her darling, she would still tell them off. How would He Yan be spared?

Even if it was someone else who did this to her previous granddaughter, Grandma Jian’s attitude would be the same. No one was as important as her darling.

He Yan quickly smiled apologetically, “Mother, I don’t mean anything else. I wouldn’t ever harm Yiling. I don’t even have enough time to love her. I just hate how Yiling isn’t my own child.”

Even though He Yan was smiling apologetically, she was internally gritting her teeth and fuming inside.
