Chapter 240: Second exam

Chapter 240: Second exam

"Those who have passed the assessment stone test follow me. It is time to partake in the second examination.

After teacher Lancaster finished speaking, he and another burly middle-aged man jumped down from the wooden raised platforms before walking towards the second training ground."

"Step forth and reach the second training ground!" The burly man voice echoed throughout the first training ground. He was a high-rank battle master. It was clear from the way he dressed and acted.

Immediately afterward, the students who have passed the first exam, along with some examiners, began rushing towards the gate. As for Whittaker, Shadow, Ruth, and Yato, they also followed the mass and made their way towards the second training ground.

A while later, they arrived at the second training ground. It was a vast and spacious area that could easily house over 3000 students. Similar to the first training ground, this area was also decorated with testing equipment.

In the second exam area, there were over a hundred boulders made out of iron. With a single look at them, Whittaker and the knowledgeable Shadow determined that these boulders were one of the worst conductors of mana. Furthermore, the material used to construct these iron boulder were ten times heavier than common iron.

Just what kind of test requires such things?

After waiting for a few minutes for everyone to gather, teacher Lancaster and teacher Larry began to speak,

"All right, the second examination is divided into two tests. The first test will determine your control over mana. While the battle masters will be tested for their endurance and balance. Mages follow me." Lancaster explained before moving towards the left side of the training ground.

"Battle Masters with me," Larry said before walking to the right side of the training ground.

The mages followed after Lancaster. Whittaker also followed behind. He didn't want to expose the fact that he was a battle master. Not before meeting with Headmaster Yeon. Meanwhile, Battle masters like Shadow closely followed behind Larry.

"You students must attempt to carry the boulder from the starting point of the track to the other end, if you can't carry the boulder until halfway then you will fail this test. If you drop the boulder before reaching the passing point then you fail. The students who reach 60-70% of the track will get an average grade. 70-80% will give you a good grade. 80-90% means an excellent grade. The superb grade for those who reach the goal." Larry said. he didn't feel the need to demonstrate what the students have to do. However, he remembered what the goblin teacher has said.

To become a respected teacher, he must treat the students with respect and not slack off his job.

Thus, Larry then went on to give a demonstration. He used a portion of his strength to lift the boulder above his head. Then he used a portion of his strength to hurl it. The boulder landed on the other end with a bang.

"Wow! Teacher Larry is so strong!" The students clapped amazed by his demonstration.

"This can also be done to pass this test?" A student among the crowd asked.

"If you want to hurl the boulder then hurl it!" Larry replied. "However, I advise you all against it. This boulder might look fragile but it is far heavier than the stone boulders you students are used to."

Some foolish students who didn't know what the boulder was made of still went up and gave it a try. Poor sods had to use every ounce of their physical strength and battle energy to even lift it. Some immediately failed as they couldn't lift the boulder. While the others couldn't keep their balance and either tripped or dropped the boulder to save themselves from embarrassment before reaching the passing point.

Geraldine was swiftly making his way to the other end. He was born with innate great strength. His arms and legs were as big as wine barrels. Yet, this year he was only 16 years olds. He was certain that he will reach the goal before anyone else.

However, his eyes opened wide in shock as he stared at the black-haired boy passing by him and making his way towards the goal with an incredible speed. It was none other than Shadow!

"Monster!" Geraldine said with mouth agape.

Meanwhile, teacher Lancaster was explaining the test to the mages. "You must propel the boulder from the starting point to the goal by using mana. The further the boulder reaches the better your grade. All of you will all get two attempts. However, if you use your spellbook then the attempts will be halved."

The test from mages was laxer when compared to the battle master. It's because mages were more important than battle master and they were treasured even in the royal frost fall academy. Furthermore, in the awakened continent, the mages to battle master ratio were too wide. There will be at least one to a maximum of 100 mages among 1000 awakened. Undoubtedly, the rest will be battle masters.

"Does anyone have any questions?"

"Teacher! Can we use pure-mana spells like telekinesis?"

"Yes, you can use whatever spell you like to propel the boulder from the starting spot to the goal," Lancaster replied.

The students smiled. They thought that it was gonna be easy to pass this test. However, they were devastated when they found out that this boulder couldn't even be considered as a conductor of mana.

Some used telekinesis to propel the boulder ahead. Though telekinesis totally depended upon a person's control over mana and his mental fortitude. The moment they lose concentration they will be left with only one attempt.

"I won't be able to get a good grade if I use telekinesis. I must use my spellbook! But which spell should I use?" Ruth internally pondered. He was trying to make his decision before a loud bombing sound rang out.

Whoosh!

He saw an iron boulder shooting towards the goal like a rocket. Although it fell to the ground just a few meters away from the goal.

"Hehe, it went better than I expected!" Yato said while rubbing his nose. He hasn't learned telekinesis. Thus, he had used his spellbook and utilized "sonic blast" to hurl the boulder towards the goal with an incredible speed. The sonic blast was a rare charging spell, and although it takes thirty seconds to charge it up, this test didn't have a time limit.

Sonic blast condenses layers of winds at a single point before releasing. The sudden release creates a wind no less powerful than a hurricane. That's what blasted the iron boulder so far, and earned Yato a good result.
