Chapter 28 First Recruit Part 1
On my way back home, I headed to the nearby park that I would usually exercise in, and it was empty and peaceful.
The birds were tweeting and singing their morning praises, and there was a nice cool breeze that ruffled my hair as I sat on a bench and enjoyed the scenery.
It was quite damp after the heavy rain there had been and it was quite chilly, especially since I was only in a t-shirt, but I still sat there for around an hour.
I was almost meditating as I focused on my breathing and emptied my mind until I had finally had enough.
Feeling much better, it was already quite light outside, and checking the time on my phone; it was still very early in the morning and about 5 am.
My mother was still probably sleeping, and I didn't have keys, but it should be alright to wake her up and I wanted to get some more rest at home.
I had already missed work for a few days, so I was pretty sure I was fired, so I was all in when it came to forming a gang and becoming a gangster.
So, I needed to rest up and start scouting for anyone that was desperate enough to join me, but would also add some sort of value to my gang.
And unlike normal gangs, I wanted to create loyalty and brotherhood, where everyone has complete trust in each other and can rely on each other at all times.

As I left the park, seeing the nearby construction site and the new tall building they were planning on raising, I couldn't help but shake my head.
All these tall buildings would eventually take over the entire city, and although looked nice, were too expensive for most to afford and made life harder for many, pushing them further out of the city.
Those that didn't own homes would always be in an endless struggle, and getting accepted for a mortgage without a secure high-paid job was very difficult.
However, that was just how life was and that wasn't what had caught my eye.
What had caught my eye was three men attacking one large man outside the construction site, and all four of them were wearing builder's uniforms and helmets.
It was 5 am, so was too early to start construction, so why were they there and why were they attacking the large man?
The three smaller men, that were larger than myself and pretty bulky themselves, were equipped with baseball bats and were trying to hurt the giant juggernaut as much as they could.
And yet he was blocking their blows with his arms and moving backward, not fighting back, but also not fazed much by their attacks.
One couldn't help but wonder, 'Was that giant man really human?'
My curiosity drew me closer, and I quickly began to understand why they were attacking him.
"You big oaf! If it wasn't for you, we would still be getting paid 150 a day, but now we're only getting half of that!"
"Yeah, you dumb giant. If only you never came in the first place."
"Fucking asshole! So what if you can do the job of 5 men? You're retarded! And today we're gonna make sure you can never work again."
The giant man tried pleading with them and was explaining that wasn't his fault, and despite being attacked, he was still speaking to them kindly.
"I am just trying to get money for my family. Please leave me alone."
Apologising dearly and swearing that he didn't have any bad intentions and didn't mean to make them get lower wages, they didn't hold back at all.
He looked young, no older than 25, and his physique and strength were incredible.
To add to that, he was kind, had something he wanted to protect and provide for, and also seemed to be someone I could easily win over.
The perfect first recruit to my gang that I haven't even named yet.
He was taking the hits quite easily, but still, he was only human, and his arms were beginning to falter from the continuous strikes they were enduring.
Just as he was about to drop his guard, I suddenly came in, rushing towards them.
"Fuck off assholes," I yell as I jump in the air and kick one of the three men in the back, winding them and launching them onto the ground.
"This guy is my friend. You shouldn't have fucked with him," I bellow as I quickly avoided the swing of a baseball bat, then countered with a powerful right hook.
They weren't experienced in combat at all and clearly weren't fighters, as I continued to avoid most of their attacks and blocked a few, while landing dozens of blows.
I also found that it was much easier to see their attacks coming, almost as if everything was slower, which was likely due to the Gangster Instincts that the system said would improve my reflexes.
-
Beating them to a pulp, covering their faces in blood to the point they were almost unrecognisable, I stop, not wanting to go too far or scare the giant man that appeared dismayed by what he had just witnessed.
Looking at him up close, his size and muscular physique truly were intimidating, and he must be at least double my weight, and yet he seemed afraid of me.
Compared to the large man that had harassed Angela, he was even more muscular and taller, but had a gentle face and was clearly young, appearing to be no older than 25.
If he knew how to fight and use his great strength, he would be a beast that even I couldn't beat in a fight.
What a lucky encounter.
"Come on, man, let's get out of here," I said as I patted his back and gave him a reassuring smile.
I walked with him around the park, and at first; he was on edge, nervous, and intimidated by me, but quickly began talking all about his life.
It was a sad one, but he smiled as he spoke about it and he didn't let his past weigh down on him.
That positivity made me want to adopt a similar mindset.
