Chapter 326: Rules
Chapter 326: Rules
Sylas scanned the list of missions.
There weren't many direct threats to a System City's army in practice, so most often the members of the military were used to maintain order and do some cleanup work in the
surrounding territory.
These simple missions, though, were usually left to simple infantry soldiers. For Sylas, who was a Captain, he had access to a higher grade of missions, ones that were related to the overall safety of the city or gave him a chance to participate in the betterment of the city overall.
These missions might as well have been a cheat code toward accessing all of the most valuable resources in the surroundings. Not just this, but he would have the support of ten men in doing so.
As expected, some of the same spawned villages that had been on Gregory's list were present here as well. Not only were they here, but they had breakdowns of the strength of these villages as well. Some even recommended that two or more Captain squads work together to fulfill them.
The closest was about 20 kilometers away, and the furthest was easily over a hundred away. But that was just the start. On this list, there were also Dungeons, the location of strategic resources, and even escort missions related to other human settlements and System Cities in some cases.
The last of these three seemed insignificant, but it was essentially giving Sylas the exact location of Cassarae's most fearsome opponents, on top of also giving him the chance to spread his influence across several System Cities.
He wasn't yet sure if it was possible to become a noble in multiple cities, but when he had firmly established himself here, there would be nothing stopping him.
Sylas calmly memorized every mission that was here before he accepted one and then turned away.
[Hobgoblin Village 182]
[Reward: 1,200 Hero Points]
[Evaluation: 50 warriors of a Level 12 average. There are 10 elites at the Level 15 stage, and their Leader is Level 17. Hobgoblin 182 is classified as a high-class threat. It is recommended for a Colonel to head this mission. However, there is a case where several Captains can tackle it alone.
[The Hobgoblins are very organized, and as such, their schedule is very rigid and easy to follow. This can be taken advantage of if swift action is taken. Fair warning, the Hobgoblins are far more intelligent than their Goblin Race counterparts. As such, without solid planning or the help of a master strategist, this path can very easily backfire.]
There were very few Colonel-level missions like this one that Sylas could take on as a Captain, so he didn't have a very great selection. Other than this one, there were only three others that wouldn't be enough to get him to the 10,000 Hero Point mark he needed. This was especially so considering that he would also need to pay his subordinates in Hero Points as well based on their contribution.
But he had his own plans. There was more to gain from these raids than just Hero Points alone. And... he also had his mind on something else.
[Oceanic Chaos]
[Reward: 235,000 Hero Points]
[Evaluation: An underwater portal has appeared beneath the ocean and has begun to cause problems for the ecosystem. Large oceanic creatures fall from the skies from time to time, but the biggest issue is the continuous flow of salted waters.
[Find a method to solve this problem and you will be handsomely rewarded.]
This mission could only be accepted by Colonels and above. It was clear that no one believed anyone weaker would be capable of doing it, and even further, giving Colonels a chance was already being quite generous.
Sylas couldn't complain about this even if he wanted. Dealing with this problem was a massive undertaking and most wouldn't even know where to start.
He, however... had a method. This method would be very dangerous nonetheless, but so long as he could manage to become a Colonel and succeed, he would have a one-way pipeline to General.
No one would be able to stop him.
Like this, Sylas left with his team.

"He's left?" Plinli asked plainly after Licirius returned.
The Licirius of now looked to be back to 100% and was exuding a powerful and determined aura. There was a sharpness about him that seemed to be begging for battle.
"Yes."
"I really didn't expect this. Is it a coincidence?"
"There's no reason for him to know."
"You're right, but then that means he's almost certainly related to Cassarae. There haven't been any reports of a human coming out of the ocean portal, so he could have only come from
Cassarae."
"I agree. How do we kill him?"
Plinli looked back with a chuckle. "Oh? You aren't going to ask to rush off and take his head yourself? When'd my little cousin become such a cowardly little mouse?"
"Don't test me, Plinli. What's the plan?"
Plinli became serious when he realized Licirius wasn't in a joking mood.
"You said it yourself, he's powerful, extremely so. That mutation ability he displayed at least tripled his strength, so even if you went now, you would likely die. Especially considering he now has the support of a ten-man squad.
"If we wait until these pitiful little ants finally break through the Level 20 bottleneck, and our own restrictions loosen, he might have improved even more by then.
"The System City gives him too many advantages. He's going to be collecting resources that
can improve himself at an alarming rate."
Licirius waved a hand. "Get to the point."
"If we want to deal with him, we'll have to strike with the very rules he's taking advantage of now. Start with a few probes. See how he deals with a Court Martial."
Licirius' eyes brightened as he understood immediately.
The duty of a commanding officer included the lives of his subordinates. If Sylas was too powerful, fine... what about the people under him?
He just took a mission he wasn't rated for. They'd have more than enough ammo to deal with
him even if he came back unscathed.
After hearing this, Licirius vanished.
Plinli fell into his own thoughts. 'This likely won't be enough considering he is also a Baron. I'll have to prepare a few more things.'
