Chapter 76: Chapter 76 – Shelter Building [1]
Walking out of the burning police station, Max had a happy expression. There was no loot on the first floor, which was a shame, as there was no other room besides the large one and the lobby.
The items in his backpack were currently like this.
Scraps: 15
Antidote: 1
99mm bullets: 0
5.56mm bullets: 60 / 2 full mags
1x Gloves
1x Flashlight
1x Handgun
1x Knife
1x Boot Knife
It looked sad. There was no armory in that building. Max only found destroyed gun shelves, which were already looted clean.
For a heavy loot area, as confirmed by Rocket's appearance, the amount of loot in the building wasn't a lot. It was too few.
Either Max was really unlucky, or the game RNG was fucked up; no one knew. However, everyone had to admit that the viewers did enjoy unlucky streamers far more than a lucky one.
They loved to see suffering!
"In the end, I was left with only 15 Scraps. Well… I need to count the Boot Knife, Gloves, and flashlight as good loot from this building. All in all, that was a good test for my movement in this game. Are you impressed, guys?"
— I had to admit, you're pretty good
— W Breeze! No cap! That fight with Rocket was amazing
— Although you got injured and got hit many times, that was an amazing fight
— Kyaa! He cooked those zombies! Shout my name, Chef Breeze!
— I am impressed. Truly!
— Truly impressed with your amazing luck (lol). No one can get Scraps that many, even in a heavy loot zone (lol)
— lololol, true true
"Let's ignore my amazing loot for a second," Max chuckled wryly and looked around, "I need to find a place to build a shelter and hopefully find the material along the way. The day will be over soon, and I certainly didn't want to experience the night in my first time playing this game."
There were two phases in V-Shelter Survival, day and night. It wasn't such a simple concept where enemies' behavior changed and became more aggressive.
No, a lot of change came with night time on top of such things.
The first and most important change was the loot. It would no longer shine, and reflected stars with night time arrived. That meant it would be harder to find and only had a small indicator when the players stood right beside or before it.
Secondly were the enemies. Some nocturnal enemies would appear, and they were pretty bad. Infected and zombies were pretty much tame at that moment, but this new enemy was faster and more troublesome than the two of them combined.
And third… Players' hunger bar would decrease faster at night time.
Based on the lore written in the introduction, sunlight could decrease the virus's activity in the air when it was day, but it was unable to do it when night arrived. Thus, players' bodies needed to work harder to combat those viruses.
Well, on top of all of that, the vision was also pretty limited at night, which made it more dangerous.
"There is still 50 minutes before night arrives. Why does the developer make it an hour cycle instead of two or three?"
— Isn't it obvious? To f*ck the players and force them to fight
— It's a survival game, for god's sake. If they make the cycle change to every two or three hours, it will be a looting simulator
— Two hours is too long. Heck! An hour is already long enough to loot two or three buildings. You even cleared a heavy loot zone in just 20 minutes, with just a knife!
— I think 10 minutes cycle is good enough kekekeke
"Well, that makes sense." Max nodded at the chat's replies. "Let's move then. Based on the surrounding area that I see from climbing the wall earlier, west seems to be a good choice. There is a building with 'Shop' written on it and a space surrounded by fences near it. I will build my shelter there."
After explaining his goal, Max began to move to the west. His knife never left his right hand, and he put everything else in the backpack for the time being, including the flashlight.
'The daytime is bright enough for me to see. Besides, there is no telling when I will need it. I need to save its battery.'
Streets in the city area were pretty safe compared to buildings where the loot usually was. Only one or two zombies could be spotted, but they weren't as aggressive as the ones from before.
That was why Max ignored them—no need to fight enemies who were just chilling around, groaning forever without having a future. Saving the knife's durability was more important before he could reach the shop.
Still, he stopped a few times to get loot he spotted behind some bushes or just sitting at an abandoned bus stop, a regular spot for loot. As usual, it was a Scrap.
Fortunately, he found 12x 99mm bullets in a crushed police car. At long last, his handgun wouldn't be useless anymore. It gave him a sense of security.
However, his luck with building materials and loot wasn't that good either. He could only exchange his Scrap for them in the shop.
Before long, he arrived at this destination. The two-story building was heavily guarded with lightning fences and turrets. Cameras were installed in all corners, giving anyone inside a clear view of the surroundings. There were signs of traps here and there.
The sign 'Shop' was lit in a neon light, attracting attention from all corners.
When Max walked closer to the gate that had the thickest security and two turrets, the cameras pointed at him, and a voice rang from a speaker installed on the fence.
"I see that you're a living human. Are you here to trade something?"
Looking at the camera, Max nodded and answered, "Yes. I have 16 Scraps."
"Great. I will open the gate for 5 seconds only. Run inside after you hear beep."
Beep!
There was a clear sound from the speaker. Following that, the beep mentioned by the NPC could be heard, and the gate opened.
Max immediately ran inside as instructed. He looked back as the gate was closed almost immediately, leaving no chance for anything to enter.
Click!
With a click, the building's sturdy doors opened slowly with a stretching sound as if welcoming him.
A hooded person stood behind a reinforced counter, behind thick glass. Only his mouth, which was curled into a sly smile, was visible. His face was hidden by the shadow of green flames on top of the torch behind him, the only source of light in the room.
— There he is, the shady merchant!
