Chapter 149: 149. Backup
She stood confidently in front of Lucius, who had now crawled his way out of the crater that Magnus had put him in. Seeing the sorry sight of her student, Serena's face grimaced, and she asked with a chilling light in her eyes, "So tell me, Magnus, what's your problem with my student?"
Looking at the pitch-black eyes that were like abysses, Magnus's heart inevitably skipped a beat.
But even though Magnus felt some awe, he still had a reputation to maintain—not his own, but that of the Hero family. His reputation meant nothing, but the Shield family couldn't be insulted! Whether it was true or not, for the people and the empire, the reputation of the Shield Hero family had to be upheld! His eyes narrowed as he looked at Serena.
"Serena, don't think you can use the backing of that person to ride on the head of the Shield Hero family."
Hearing this, Serena's nose just shriveled in disgust. "Snort! Magnus, if I really wanted to deal with you, why would I need to bring out other names? If I alone wanted to deal with you, could the Shield Hero family protect you?"
"Ugh!"
Facing Serena's eerie smile, Magnus felt like insects were crawling up his spine, but in front of so many people, he couldn't afford to cower and grit his teeth. "Either way, Serena, your student is clearly in the wrong this time. When I arrived, he was brutally beating up the children of my family for no reason; he was even about to take heavy-handed measures."
Hearing this, Lucius scoffed loudly. He didn't take Magnus seriously when it was just him alone; now that his big backer was here, how could he allow that old man to continue to run his mouth?
"Slander! This is nothing but blatant slander!" cried Lucius like a bullied girl.
Hearing this, both Tyler and Chris couldn't take it anymore. "Fuck! This is taking it too far! After beating us up to this extent, you still deny it as slander!"
Hearing this, even Serena couldn't help but look at her student with strange eyes. The two of them were covered in blood and bruises and looked like they were just plucked from a war zone. Tell someone that such people weren't even beaten up? Sorry, but even a child wouldn't believe it!
Lucius didn't pay attention to the look and just looked at the two brothers with disdain. "I never said I didn't beat you up. I said it's slander that I beat you up for no reason. You guys clearly started it. The only reason you ended up like this is because you were incapable," said Lucius matter-of-factly.
"At first, I wasn't going to interfere, but when I saw their domineering attitude and blatant bullying of a fellow student, how could I just stand by? This is Sanctuary! The training ground of humanity's future heroes! If I turn a blind eye to such blatant bullying, what use are my dreams? Ptui! If I look away, I won't have the face to call myself a hero in the future!"
As Lucius made his impassioned speech, the faces of the two brothers clearly grew uglier. "You troublesome student, it's not been long since I started teaching you, and you're already causing trouble for me!"
Although Serena's words sounded like they were chastising Lucius, the smile at the edge of her lips betrayed her true feelings. Lucius knew Serena better than anyone else because of her past with the Bloody Hand. Serena had a cold attitude outwardly but longed to be a hero more than anyone else.
Serena might not excuse all of Lucius's actions, but if he did them in the name of being a true hero, she would be his biggest backer!
Magnus, who had heard Lucius's explanation, nodded his head but still frowned. "Your belief in upholding heroic deeds is admirable, but the Sanctuary rules state that you can't attack fellow students first, and you should be punished for it."
Hearing this, Lucius tilted his head innocently and said, "That's true, Sir Magnus, but I didn't attack first. That fault would lie with the two brothers."
"What!"
Now Magnus could no longer remain calm! He understood that Lucius defeated the two brothers, but he thought he at least sneak-attacked and struck first. If not, how could he brutally beat up descendants of the Shield Hero, known for their overwhelming defense? Not to mention these guys were still a year older than him.
Magnus's eyes wandered towards the two brothers, but when he saw them shrink their shoulders and avoid his eyes, he couldn't help but curse, "Waste!"
With such a look on the faces of the two brothers, he knew that Lucius was telling the truth this time.
"Hiss."
Magnus couldn't help but take a deep breath as he looked at the handsome young man in front of him. Although the facts were pointing this out, it seemed a bit too ridiculous, no? These guys were descendants of heroes and second years at that. Now that he thought about it, wasn't there another monster amongst these first years? Some kid that learned the sword and magic as easily as breathing?
Thinking about the appearance of two new monsters, not even from a hero family, Magnus just sighed internally. Maybe he was getting old.
But even if Magnus felt a little admiration for Lucius's talent, he couldn't just leave like this.
"Serena, if what your student says is true, then my people are really in the wrong today. But that doesn't change the fact that this stemmed from a family matter. The Montford family will take care of things internally from now on."
As Magnus said this, he stretched forth his hand towards Ryan. Seeing this, Lucius didn't stay still. "Teacher, you can't let that happen. Can't you see the Montford family is clearly bullying this guy? If we let them take him, we can only imagine the consequences he will suffer."
