Chapter 16 Sofia’s Troubles
Arlan grabbed a pen from his bag and proceeded to sign the documents. He didn't even bother to read the contents since he trusted Luke's professionalism.
Kate stared at him in surprise when she saw this. She thought that Arlan would take his time to read the documents to ensure that he wouldn't be cheated. Who would have thought that the guy would actually sign each page without hesitation?
"That should be everything. Please check it for me, Kate." Arlan smiled as he gave her the documents.
Kate nodded her head and inspected each page and after seeing that there was nothing wrong, she kept the documents. "Thank you for your time, Arlan. I'll return this to Mr. Montefalco. Here's my number. You can ask me anything if you have any questions." After giving him her business card, she stood up and bid him farewell. She felt a bit uncomfortable staying inside a room with a man so she left right away. Although Arlan didn't seem like a bad person, she chose to be careful.
"That woman is too cautious." Arlan chuckled to himself as he looked at Kate's business card.
Now that Charles' matter has been dealt with, he felt more at ease and calm.
Suddenly, he felt his phone vibrating. He grabbed his phone and saw that someone has sent him a message.
Hi, Arlan! This is Sofia. I'm free tonight. How about we grab some dinner?
Arlan smiled after reading the message. This girl was so proactive and she even took the initiative to send him a message. He then replied with a short message.
Alright. Let's meet at 6 P.M in the public lounge.
He was grateful to her because she was the person who gave her the opportunity to join Henry Sanchez's birthday party. If not for her, he wouldn't have gotten the chance to get the Lake View Villa.
Soon, night came and he went to the public lounge of the hotel to meet Sofia. It was still 5:55 P.M. and Sofia wasn't there yet so Arlan sat down. Five minutes later, he saw Sofia walking towards him. She was wearing a loose casual long-sleeved high waist white dress. Her presence immediately attracted the attention of the men.
"Am I late?" She muttered with a smile.
Arlan shook his head with a smile as he replied. "You came just right on time. Let's go."
Arlan's car was already in front of the entrance. He called a valet earlier to park his car here.
Arlan opened the door for Sofia and this made her smile at him sweetly. "Thank you." She said.
After she entered the car, he sat on the driver's seat and asked her. "What do you want to eat?"
Sofia stared at him and thought for a moment before she replied. "I don't want to eat anything heavy so anything with less carbs should do."
"Alright. I know a place that serves delicious food. We should be able to find some lighter meals there." Arlan muttered as he stepped on the gas. Soon, they arrived at a relatively high-end restaurant. There were only a few people dining here since only the rich could afford their prices.
Sofia came from a lower middle-class family and she hasn't been to places like this. She was fascinated by the tranquil atmosphere of the restaurant.
While she was looking around curiously, a waiter came up to greet them. "Good evening, guests! Have you made a reservation?"
Arlan nodded his head. "Yes. I called you guys a few hours ago."
"Can I ask for your name, sir?"
"It's Arlan Dominic Roa." Arlan muttered.
The waiter checked his iPad and saw Arlan's name on the reservation list. "Thank you for making a reservation in our restaurant, Mr. Roa. Please follow me. I'll take you to your table."
"Alright." Arlan and Sofia followed the server. They were taken to the second floor of the restaurant and there were fewer people eating there.
The two sat down and the waiter handed them their menus.
Sofia was taken aback when she saw the prices of the dishes. They were so expensive that it almost made her afraid to choose one, but she didn't want to embarrass herself in front of Arlan so she casually chose two dishes. "I'll take these two." She said to the waiter.
"I choose this, this, and this." Arlan pointed at a few dishes and a bottle of wine.
"Please wait for a moment. Your food will be ready in about fifteen minutes." The waiter bowed his head lightly as he left.
After the waiter left, Arlan stared at Sofia and said. "I still haven't found the chance to thank you for giving me the opportunity to join Mr. Sanchez's birthday celebration. I'm grateful for that."
Hearing this, Sofia smiled and shook her head. "It's nothing. You don't have to thank me for that."
They chatted idly and soon their food arrived.
Their eyes lit up when they saw the mouthwatering dishes on the table.
"Their food is indeed delicious." Arlan muttered in praise.
While they were eating and chatting happily, Sofia's phone suddenly rang. "Excuse me. I have to take this call." She said before walking into the balcony of the restaurant.
Arlan was curious when he saw her expression. After receiving the experiences of a super soldier, his hearing became more sensitive.
He couldn't hear the voice of the person that Sofia was speaking with, but he could hear what she was saying. The more he listened, the more serious his expression has become. "There's actually such a matter... This girl must have suffered a lot..."
From what he heard, he found out that Sofia's father was currently bedridden in a hospital and the person paying his medical bills was the person on the phone. However, in exchange for this, Sofia had to work for him. As for the nature of the work, Arlan didn't know what it was, but from Sofia's tone and expression, he guessed that it was definitely unethical.
