Chapter 45 - 45 Black Cat
45 Black Cat
Night had set in.
The moonlight shone on the ground like mercury, bringing a hazy beauty to the quiet street.
It was abnormally quiet in the North District at night, so quiet that it was even a little eerie.
In a corner shrouded in shadows, Lin Shen stood against the wall. He touched his stiff face after taking the Face Changing Pill. After thinking for a while, he was still worried. He took out a fox mask from his storage jade plate and put it on.
After doing all this, he took out the God Seeking Token and studied it carefully in his palm.
Under the moonlight, the token shone with a hazy luster.
“Speaking of which, how do I use this thing?”
Just as this thought appeared in his mind, Lin Shen suddenly felt the token in his palm move slightly. It suddenly rose a few centimeters.
“To the north.”
Lin Shen perked up and immediately jumped out of the shadows, rushing towards his destination according to the token’s guidance.
Running in the middle of the night while wearing a mask was undoubtedly very suspicious.
However, when it was nighttime in the North District, there were few people hanging around outside. There were almost no pedestrians on the empty streets, and only a few drunkards walked by occasionally.
Along the way, very few shops were still open at night. In addition, Lin Shen specialized in choosing dark corners to walk in, so no one noticed him.
Ten minutes later, Lin Shen stopped in front of a two-story house.
The residence occupied a large area. Although it only had two floors, the decoration was stylish, and there was also a grass-covered front yard. The people who lived here were obviously rich.
Lin Shen glanced at the God Seeking Token in his hand.
After arriving here, the God Seeking Token stopped moving. Instead, it heated up slightly. Clearly, the target he was looking for was in the residence in front of him.
Lin Shen looked around and saw no one was paying attention to him. He strode to the wall and jumped lightly. He reached out and pressed against the wall. With a little press of his hand, he easily climbed over the wall and silently landed on the grass in the front yard.
However, he had just stabilized himself and started to observe his surroundings when a black shadow suddenly rushed out from the corner.
Lin Shen took a closer look. It was a dog with pure white fur and the size of a calf.
This family had a dog!
Seeing that the white dog was about to bark, Lin Shen became a little nervous. He rushed forward at lightning speed to stop it, but just as he moved, he suddenly heard a voice.
“Wait, Cotton, don’t bark!”
The voice was as tender as a seven or eight-year-old girl’s, but it was as pleasant and clear as a mountain spring.
Lin Shen looked in the direction of the voice in surprise and saw a black cat slowly walking out from behind the white dog.
Under the bright moonlight, the black cat’s fur emitted a glossy and smooth luster. Its body was slender and long, showing beautiful curves. Its footsteps were light and nimble, carrying a dreamy beauty.
There was also an exquisite golden bell tied to her slender neck with a red belt.
For a moment, Lin Shen actually had the illusion that he was looking at a rich young lady taking a lazy stroll in her courtyard.
After stopping the white dog, the black cat used her gem-like ice-blue eyes to size up Lin Shen. The suspicious look in her eyes was rather human-like.
“I sense a very familiar aura from you. Who are you?”
If Lin Shen had some doubts just now, when he heard the black cat speak human language, he immediately knew who the cat was.
This black cat could actually speak the human language!
Apart from a few special examples, under normal circumstances, spiritual beasts that could speak the human language were close to the Manifestation Stage, which was comparable to the Bright Aperture Stage in humans.
However, if this black cat really had that kind of cultivation level, logically speaking, she wouldn’t have been chased around by the Night Grinders.
She could kill all members of the Night Grinders with a single slap!
Moreover, Lin Shen didn’t sense any powerful aura from the black cat.
Lin Shen was bewildered, but he didn’t show it on his face. Instead, he waved the God Seeking Token in his hand at the black cat.
“The cat general asked me to bring you out of the North District.”
The black cat’s eyes lit up when she heard this. Her gaze landed on the token in Lin Shen’s hand. After carefully observing it for a moment, she nodded happily.
“It’s indeed the general’s token. In that case, you’re really here to save me. That’s great!”
The black cat couldn’t hide the joy in her voice.
She had been chased by the Night Grinders for almost a month and had been fleeing for most of the time. Although she had finally found a relatively safe hiding place, she had used up most of her strength.
If the Night Grinders found her again, she probably wouldn’t even have the strength to cast an illusion to escape.
Fortunately, someone finally came to save her!
Indeed, there was always a way out!
“There’s no time to lose. Let’s leave now. The Night Grinders have been appearing in the vicinity for the past few days. I suspect they’re about to discover this place!”
Lin Shen nodded and looked at the white dog that had been quietly squatting at the side with its tongue out.
The black cat turned to the white dog.
“Cotton, thank you for helping me for the past few days. When it’s safe, I’ll come back for you again. I’ll treat you to delicious canned cat food!”
“Woof!”
“Why can’t dogs eat canned cat food? I find canned dog food quite delicious!”
“Woof!”
“You’re telling me not to come? How can I do that? You helped me. I’m not an ungrateful cat. I have to repay you in the future!”
“Woof!”
...
“Alright, alright. I know you’re worried about me. I’ll leave now. Don’t rush me. Remember to be careful when I leave. Those bad people might come here.”
“…”
Lin Shen glanced at the black cat in resignation. Even he could tell what the white dog meant. Why couldn’t this black cat tell?
Fortunately, the communication between the cat and dog didn’t take long. The black cat quickly finished bidding farewell to the white dog and jumped lightly onto Lin Shen’s shoulder.
Her movements were light and agile. Even the bell on her neck didn’t ring at all.
“Alright, let’s go.” The black cat said happily.
Lin Shen climbed over the wall without hesitation.
However, as soon as he landed, he saw a few figures flash past from the corner of his eye.
He turned around and happened to see four or five men appear at the end of the street. Their gazes landed on Lin Shen and the black cat on his shoulder.
“Found it! It’s that spiritual cat!”
“Who’s the guy with the mask?”
...
“Who cares? Let’s take him down together. Don’t let that cunning black cat escape again!”
The group of people rushed over aggressively.
Without another word, Lin Shen turned around and started running. He used Shadows to run wildly, moving so fast that the black cat on his shoulder swayed non-stop. She had no choice but to grab onto his clothes tightly to stabilize herself.
“Where are we going now?”
“To the East District. When we get there, the cat general will come and pick us up.”
Lin Shen replied casually as he glanced behind him from the corner of his eye.
After running for a distance, only two people who also cultivated movement techniques were behind him. The rest had long been left behind.
“It’s a pity that Shadows is more inclined to short-distance movement and jumping. It’s a little disadvantageous to use it for running long distances. Otherwise, it would be easy to shake off these people with Proficient Shadows!”
Lin Shen looked around. There were shadows in the distance. It was obvious the people behind him weren’t the only ones hunting the black cat. The other members of the Night Grinders were also gathering from other directions.
At this rate, he and the black cat would most likely be caught up by the Night Grinders before they reached the East District.
“I have to think of a way to get rid of them!” Lin Shen’s mind raced.
Just as he was thinking, two men suddenly rushed out from the corner ahead. After discovering them, the two men immediately waved the blades at them.
