Chapter 31: Exam Part 5 Reassurance
Chapter 31: Exam Part 5 Reassurance
Kaden was on top of his Rattler with his group and was making his way through the forest trying to find any sort of other beasts that he could before the timer ran out. It ended up that the people in his group were Sky and Emma which made him both nervous and curious to see what will happen between the two.
So far nothing out of the ordinary had happened as they all stayed quiet and alert as the wind blew against their faces due to the speed the Rattler was moving with them on top of it. Thank goodness the Rattler knew to not go too fast with them on top because it was just slow enough that they wouldn't fly off but also fast enough that they were making a good speed.
"Why did she have to be with us?" Sky said as she made her way beside Kaden at the front of the Rattler.
Kaden couldn't help but smile warily at her question, "We played rock paper scissors to decide the groups. You know that." Kaden said remembering how they decided who would be with who. Sky had protested greatly that she should be with Kaden regardless and that if she wasn't there might have been a problem. Lucky enough they didn't have to see what she would have done because they did end up on the same team but with Emma in addition.
Sky pouted at his answer before thinking of something with a smile, "What if we just toss her off the edge of the Rattler? She would be eliminated but I think we can handle this on our own." Sky said nodding to herself as if the answer was already clear from the beginning.
Kaden immediately was against her plan due to many different reasons, "We can't do that. She's part of the Johnson family and if we did something like that then we would be in trouble. Also, even if she can't help us with attacking or defending she can be helpful in a multitude of ways." Kaden said bringing the reality of the situation into light.
Sky's eyes began to darken quickly and soon enough they became a void inside her own face, "You wouldn't happen to be defending her for some other reason, would you? ~" She said 'sweetly' while staring into Kaden's eyes which frightened him considerably.
"Of course n-not! I rejected her the other day, I can safely say that I want almost nothing to do with her." Kaden said firmly which brought the light back into Sky's eyes.
She then leaned over and patted his head which strangely felt comforting to Kaden, "Good~ Did you hear that over there! He only needs me~" Sky said comforting Kaden before yelling over at Emma whom Kaden didn't realize was watching.
Kaden expected her to get mad at Sky and for them to begin arguing again but it Emma instead had a wide smile on her face, "It doesn't seem like he doesn't need me. Especially after what happened earlier in the school when Kaden showed the teacher his class." She said with a non-wavering smile.
This made Kaden's jaw drop, 'She just admitted to having something to do with it?!' Kaden thought to himself confused as his assumptions and guesses were finally answered.
Sky on the other hand was completely confused, "What are you talking about?" She asked intrigued.
Emma then flashed a knowing smile instead, "Why don't you ask your man over there. He knows all about how he had no one to help him with his little problem and then there I was like a knight in shining armor. Not that he knew it then but he knows now and where were you exactly? I don't seem to recall you helping at all so I wouldn't go around saying he doesn't need me." Emma said in an authoritative tone.
Sky flinched slightly at her words and turned towards Kaden with her eyes now filled with a void once more. It seems that she had taken Emma's words to heart.
'Well this might be a problem.' Kaden sighed in his mind.
"I'm sorry!" Sky shouted before latching herself onto Kaden. Kaden was completely caught off guard by the outburst and then even more surprised when he felt his shirt become wet where her face was.
'Is she crying?!' Kaden thought to himself.
Deciding that it would be best to just comfort her Kaden got to work, "It's ok. Don't even worry about it. I made it and you made it and now we are able to spend this time together that's all that matters." Kaden said to her before deciding to pat her head as he remembered how he felt when she did it to him and he also rubbed her back in comfort.
Kaden continued to tell her how everything was alright and comforted her for a while until he felt no more water being put into his shirt and her cries were no longer present. He then decided that it would be time to remove his hand and right as it began lifting from her head.
*Whish*
Sky's hand moved so fast it made a slight sound through the air. She snatched Kaden's hand forcefully and placed it back on top of her head but held him by the wrist, "I didn't say to stop." She said with her face still in his shirt.
Kaden couldn't help but sigh at her actions, especially in the middle of an important exam like this but he felt that he couldn't resist her request and kept doing what he was doing while Emma grimaced on the other side of the Rattler and turned away to look at the passing scenery.
This continued for a while and it seemed Sky had fallen asleep after a few moments which surprised Kaden but he let her sleep as he continued doing what he was doing and watching the passing forest looking for any type of clue to the monsters around them when suddenly the Rattler slammed to a halt which made Kaden, Sky, and Emma tumble around the head of the Rattler before looking up and coming face to face with the largest ape they had ever seen.
"Holy crap."
