Isekai Journey Of The Magic Archer

Chapter 940 Concluding the grand conference

[Eon's POV: ]

When things returned to normal, a dam of questions broke out from all around the hall.

Everyone, including the two of us, mom and others, our mentors, the people from the temple, pope and others, even the rakshasas who were stunned by the appearance of divinities were all shouting and asking questions.

They were even screaming, the entire atmosphere had changed into something completely different from what it was just a few moments ago.

They did not care that they still were inside the grand hall, and some of them who had always wanted to meet the great divinities of the Island of magic's wealth, the Masters of the great academy, as well as the Guardians could not help but become restless.

The Judges of Meyat, the goddess of justice that we have met on a few occasions in the past, were also awestruck by the appearance and direct gaze of their goddess.

Things became so chaotic in a matter of moments that Sword Saint had to shout for all of them to calm down.

"It was quite something alright…"

All of it had happened around an hour ago, and the grand conference was coming to a conclusion now.

The organisers who were still covered in their disguises were giving their last words and thanks and, after this, the Grand conference would finally conclude.

"It wasn't everyday you get to see gods, dear. Besides, unlike us who have a good chance of gaining divinity some day, they are pretty ordinary people.

From their perspective, just being gazed at by those higher beings is something worth a lifetime of experience."

It wasn't difficult for Rein to understand why those powerful people might have acted the way they did.

She was a soldier once. She knew how a fleeting mortal life always longs for salvation… especially after facing a grave crisis.

"What we talked about was already unbearable to them, but then they saw someone sitting right among them reveal their corrupted nature, something even those divinities found surprising." It was absurd now that I think about it.

This was a corrupted one we were talking about.

"I do understand that, Eon… but think about it. They were merely gazed by the divinities. What would they do if they had to face them directly?"

We were back to our backstage personal room. And, since there was thankfully no one here, we did not have to wear any uncomfortable clothes or act so upright anymore.

We were back on the couch with her head resting on my lap. And she was once again overthinking things.

"Not all of them will have to bear as many responsibilities as we will, Rein."

Caressing her head the way she liked, I let her relax for the time being.

I was also tired, but she can have this luxurious treatment for now… if it weren't for her, I would not have been able to see all of them in that manner.

"Our paths make it inevitable for divine interactions. You, being perhaps the only being that will get to see all the truths of this world, and as the successor of my master, I don't even know how many things I will have to do to take care of Zoe and Anna.

The two of them will get as much joy, comfort, and bliss as they are destined to. I will make sure they do. And you know I will do selfish things for that."

I did not have to tell her everything to convince her.

Just from this much, she would get the answer that she wanted on her own.

"Being in the direct presence of a divinity in their complete form, feeling their power, feeling the insurmountable, unfathomable power they hold is a unique experience."

She had not seen the death and birth of a phoenix like I have, but I have not seen the entirety of the world like she has either.

There are things that we have seen and there are things that we will inevitably experience in the future, but not all of the people in that conference will get to experience the same kind of things that the two of us will.

"Our lives are so fucked up, Eon… I don't want all of this…"

"Neither do I, darling."

This conference and these experiences, these powers and these skills… we could live even without these things.

We certainly have the option to just live our lives how we want in some corner of the world, get married, live a happy life, perhaps have children someday.

We want to do that and we most certainly could do that. But, if we forsake all the duties we have as representatives of our families, as the captains of our houses, as someone who possesses powers and skills that no one else in this world does… it would be unfair to the world and those that we cherish.

"With great power comes great responsibilities." she muttered under her breath. Which is true.

Knowledge is power, skills are power, abilities, techniques, fate, knowledge, experience, resources, connections, authority, Authority, even the simplest of the innate skills are power.

Experience tales at empire

But…

"Isn't power something that we define?" she asked the question in a genuine manner.

"If I say all the skills and experiences, all the things I have right now isn't power… if I say I don't want to have any of them in the first place, what then?

Won't giving up on everything that I have right now make me just a normal person like the rest of the people?"

She was curious. She was looking at me, expecting an answer that she could accept.

"Tell me, Rein." And as someone who had knowledge, as someone who knew six [{( Truths )}] of nature, I had a duty to answer her question.

"Do you want to be normal?"

But simply telling her the answer won't really mean anything.

"A normal life will be happier, no?"

"Will it, dear?"

I couldn't help but smile at this innocent question of hers. She was unexpectedly cute sometimes.

"Hmm?" She was confused, her pink eyes questioning what I meant by that.

She wanted to be normal when she had never even known what it even means to be normal.

"You're a witch, dummy."

She was born special. How was she going to live in this world full of normal when she had never known what normal even means?

"Think about it."n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

She was a witch, as well as an anomaly.

She could perceive the flow of time better than any other 'normal' witch. She had a unique skill that allowed her to see things that others could not.

She had such a profound darkness element affinity that even a lich was serving her after being mesmerised by her powers.

And, that wasn't all.

She had lived a difficult life that no 'normal' person or witch would want to go through. And one of the reasons she had passed through all of that was thanks to her uniqueness.

"If you become normal after all of this, have you thought how you would even survive in that new, unknown world?"

Without her eyes that can see special things, without her special witch powers, without her origin skill that granted her unique abilities to do unique things…

"How will you live in that world by yourself?"

"Hmm? But you-." Her eyes suddenly widened in surprise.

"I don't want to lose any of what I have right now, Rein." Giving her a warm smile, I kissed her forehead.

"I've longed for a normal life as well, you know?"

In fact, I've had a pretty ordinary life in my initial days in this world.

"We lived on the outskirts of a town, just the three of us."

My mom worked, my dad played with me, and the three of us ate food together.

Dad cooked for us, then he taught me how to hold a knife as a child.

I had never done that at that age in my past life. I lived a relatively unique life that also had its ordinary aspects.

"I've lived an ordinary life, and I've lived a life that not many will ever have even after eternally longing for it."

The conference beyond the screens had come to an end already and everyone was greeting one another. But that did not matter to us anymore.

"If I ever have to choose between an ordinary life, an ordinary family, with my ordinary partner; and a unique family, where I have special knowledge and powers, with a partner that is as unique as a certain witch… I would choose the latter. In most circumstances, I would choose the latter."

She looked at my smiling face for a moment, puffed her cheeks like an upset little girl, and quickly turned her head away.

"Normal is everywhere and it's often not as bright, fun, and colourful as we wish it to be, Rein."

Poverty, disputes between family members, backstabbing, cheating, homelessness, hunger, thirst, working like a slave for something that one has no interest in…

To get up every morning to plow a potato field in wartime, to bring up kids with no prospect into the world… to live poor… it takes courage.

A kind of courage that most normal people do not possess.

"I've suffered a lot for what I have right now, dear." Simply turning her face back to me, I smiled at her once again.

"There are problems, there are difficulties, there are responsibilities and it feels shitty sometimes, yes." touching my forehead to hers, ignoring the touching noses, I continued looking at her deep eyes.

"But anyone would commit a felony to have what we have, love."

Giving her a light kiss with a little bite, I smiled at her for one last time.

"I'm simply one of them."

And saying that, I took my face away and asked her to get her head off my lap.

-Knock. Knock.

Everyone was done with their goodbyes and talks already. So, it was time for all of us to leave this great hall of some hundredth Grand conference.
