Level Up: Voidwalker

Chapter 161: Surrounded By Corpses

Atlas summoned the Blood Bat King and a dozen Savage Void Bears, which shocked Joel, but he waved him off with a smile, ''I want to fight them for the experience. My tames will get me away if it gets too dicey.''

While watching the caravan vanish, Atlas downed a few high mana potions that topped up his reserves. He cast Void Infusion on his blades, strengthening them just as the first monsters appeared on the horizon.

'I wonder how many monsters will be in this wave,' Atlas mused with a smile. 'The books say they can number in the hundreds or even thousands depending on what caused the wave.'

He quickly used Void Sight on all the creatures he could see to check out what he would be fighting.

[Forest Boar]

[Frenzied]

[Rank: E - 200 Exp]

[Fast and strong but stupid monsters]

"It looks like these monsters came from the nearby forest," Atlas muttered while preparing his blades, his excitement growing.

Yet a nagging voice in his mind urged caution, reminding him not to get too reckless. That's when Theo's voice sounded, 'I will pick you up if things get too bad, Master.'

[Forest Panther]

[Enraged]

[Rank: D - 300 Exp]

[Fast and cunning but weak to your magic]

'A Titan was involved in riling up these monsters as most belong in forests and shouldn't be in open grasslands.'

[Wildridge Gorilla]

[Enraged]

[Rank: C+ - 550 Exp]

[Use speed against this horrible creature]

Seeing this, Atlas thought while confused, 'Why are they so angry?'

Following that thought, he sent three Void Lances in their direction, and the azure projectiles tore through the monster's rank. It decimated many of the creatures and sent them crashing to the ground.

Atlas continued to cast spells and used Void Barrage, which wiped out over half the group, just as the Savage Void Bears charged forward and let out angry roars as they clashed with the Wildridge Gorillas and Forest Panthers.

Theo took to the sky while grabbing monsters before taking them high in the sky and taking chunks of flesh from their bodies with sharp teeth. Atlas got excited when he saw this and noticed a Forest Boar charging at him.

He braced his stance and stabbed forward as the monster impaled itself on the Deepforge blade while firing a Void Blast at a Panther that lunged at him. Atlas panicked but soon calmed down as the bears battled the Wildridge Gorillas as Theo picked off the Forest Boars.

This left him to fight the faster Forest Panthers as he deflected their claws with Void Guard before countering with quick stands and slashes. Blood covered the grass below as the battle started to die down.

After ten minutes, Atlas and the Blood Bat King put down the remaining monsters. As Theo landed with a crash, his voice rang out in his mind, 'A massive horde of creatures is heading in your direction, Master.'

When Atlas heard this, he grew nervous and reconsidered fighting the Monster Wave. He dismissed the Savage Void Bears before jumping on Theo's back as the bat took off and flew toward the incoming creatures.

As the monsters appeared on the horizon, Atlas smiled before spamming Void Lances and Void Bombs until he dropped to one knee due to mana depletion. The azure projectiles sliced through the air.

The spells connected with the Monster Wave, causing explosions across the grassland. Atlas watched as the blue flames washed over the creatures, and the weaker ones were killed outright while the stronger ones survived.

That's when Theo chirped, causing Atlas to look up, only to spot flying monsters charged in their direction. He waved his hand and summoned even more Blood Bats that started fighting the wave creatures.

Atlas felt all the experience pouring into him, causing excitement to well up while casting Void Bombs on top of the Monster Wave. Following this, he ordered Theo to head toward the city as there were too many to fight.

The flying monsters pursued relentlessly, but Theo's newly enhanced strength propelled them forward with impressive speed. The wind rushed past as they soared, outpacing their pursuers until, at last, the distant city walls came into view.

Glancing back, Atlas saw the monsters finally giving up the chase, fading into the horizon. As he breathed a sigh of relief, his sharp eyes caught sight of the caravan far below, still a mile away but steadily approaching safety.

Atlas commanded Theo to descend, knowing the city defenses would consider the Dungeon Monster a threat if they approached together. Once they landed, he dismissed Theo, the massive bat vanishing into the void.

Standing alone, Atlas waited patiently as the caravan drew closer. When he quietly joined at the rear, Joel and his wives looked back, their eyes wide with surprise, clearly stunned to see him return unscathed and on foot.

''Azhar'Zul! What happened back there? We heard explosions and thought you would have fled,'' Joel said as he approached.

Atlas waved him off while explaining, ''I retreated when there were too many. The Monster Wave includes flying creatures.''

''Husband, we need to reach Starfallen before they get to us,'' an auburn-haired elf named Sylvara commented.

Joel agreed with a nod and caught up with the caravan while Atlas followed behind as they checked his status.

'Minor gains for my attributes but at least I leveled up six times,' Atlas pondered while following the caravan.

Starfallen City appeared in the distance, and the carriages at the front of the column rushed forward while the adventurers tried to stop them. Atlas watched the merchants rush toward the gate just as a large eagle-like monster the size of a small van grabbed the first before taking off.

'What the fuck!' he thought as everyone watched it fly away.

Following that, Robert ordered everyone to dash toward the city as the Monster Wave appeared a mile behind them. Atlas started sprinting past the carriages but only to stop when he heard panicking women and children inside.

"Dammit. At this rate, the people will die," Atlas muttered, his frustration clear as he halted and turned to face the pursuing threat. He focused on the flying monsters and launched Void Bullets with precision.

The projectiles streaked through the air, homing in on their targets before slamming into the monsters, causing them to burst into brilliant explosions. He maintained his relentless assault, slowing the wave down.

As the caravan neared the city gates slowly creaking open, Atlas relentlessly unleashed spell after spell to fend off the pursuing monsters. He focused on the caravan, ensuring the fleeing people were safe as they streamed through the gates.

Spotting the narrow safety window closing fast, Atlas sprinted toward the city, narrowly evading a barrage of cannon fire that arced overhead and briefly cleared his path. As the monsters closed in, he reached the gate just in time.

A soldier swiftly opened a small side door, allowing Atlas to slip through just before he slammed it shut behind him. Atlas collapsed to the ground, catching his breath as he glanced up to see more warriors rushing toward the wall, preparing for the next wave of the onslaught.

Atlas heard the panic in their voices as the soldier let him speak in a concerned voice while trying to push him down the street, ''Get to the harbor, boy! The city will fall due to the Monster Wave.''

Hearing the soldier's urgent plea, Atlas brushed him aside with a determined wave, his eyes blazing with resolve. He downed several mana potions quickly, his energy surging as he declared, "Don't concern yourself with me; fate has greater designs for my path."

With that, Atlas charged up the stairs, his stride unyielding. Bursting onto the ramparts, he was met with a breathtaking sight: a vast sea of monstrous adversaries surging toward them, their sheer numbers creating a dark, rolling tide on the horizon.

Leaping onto the wall as soldiers scrambled to prepare the city's defenses, Atlas was a whirlwind of focused intensity. 'You were brought here to face the darkness, and that's precisely what I'll do,' he resolved.

Following that thought, Atlas cast Void Infusion into his blades to empower them with otherworldly strength. With a determined shout, Atlas launched himself off the wall, leaving the soldiers stunned.

As he descended, he unleashed a torrent of Void Bombs and Void Barrages, the azure projectiles tearing through the monstrous horde with devastation. Explosions erupted in dazzling bursts of light and force, painting the battlefield in flashes of blue.

Landing with the grace of a predator, he wasted no time. His movements were a blur of speed as he carved a bloody path through the monstrous swarm, each strike proof of his growing powers.

As Atlas continued his relentless assault, he summoned a cadre of monstrous allies to bolster his efforts. A pack of imposing Death Gorillas materialized around him, their roars echoing through the chaos as they charged into the fray.

They killed numerous monsters, using their bodies as stepping stones for him, who launched himself into the fray. Atlas wielded his Void Lance, piercing through the thick hides of the giant wave creatures.

Thanks to his timely intervention, Starfallen City significantly reduced the monster wave, allowing the reinforcements to finish them off. However, they found Atlas standing still while surrounded by corpses.
