Chapter 171: Deathglade Gem
While watching the entrance, Atlas saw a massive Hobgoblin appear with glowing red eyes and the same chaos mana roaming its body. It wore metal armor while using a giant greatsword, which looked rusty and put together with sellotape.
Atlas chuckled out his comparison before shaking his head and scanning the monster using Void Sight.
[Hobgoblin Warrior King]
[Rank: A - 1000 Exp]
[Use your speed boy]
[Sub-Boss: 2/4]
'This is going to be fun,' he thought while readying his blades as adrenaline surged through his veins.
It stood at ten feet and was built like a tank, but that didn't bother Atlas as he flung a few Void Lances at the monster. The Hobgoblin Warrior blocked the magic using his sword to cut through it before rushing toward him.
'Here we go, let's use its size against it.'
Atlas smiled before throwing a Void Bomb at it. The creature tried to sidestep it, but it was too late. The projectile slammed into the monster's chest, causing it to erupt and stumble back.
'Now to strike while it's confused,' Atlas took this opportunity before dashing toward the Hobgoblin Warrior, using Void Step to appear on the monster's back.
He started striking at the exposed flesh, causing its blood to splash all over his body, 'Ewww, this stuff smells disgusting,' he thought while cringing.
Following that, he cast Void Bomb directly into the monster's body before it exploded; Atlas cast Void Step to escape the shockwave that wiped out his opponent, leaving behind a purple core and a pile of gold coins.
Atlas approached the pile, but a rumble deeper in the dungeon shook the ground, causing him to glance around. 'Maybe Chaos is making things harder, I bet I will start running into them soon.'
He collected the spoils and descended to the lower floors. However, upon arriving, he found the area eerily empty—no monsters, no activity. Slipping on his True Sight Goggles, Atlas began scanning the surroundings for any hidden rooms or secrets that might be concealed.
'Nothing, but I'll keep them on for now,' Atlas mused before making his way through floors thirty-one to forty, a series of tunnels leading to the entrance to the next level. However, it was pitch black, causing him to cast Light.
This lit up the passage, allowing Atlas to see the path forward. Thanks to the goggles, he saw a glow in the distance and headed toward it. His eyes gleamed with greed when noticing it was a secret door.
'Treasure?' Atlas thought, but that's when a wave of arrows peppered him.
The sudden attack made him yelp as he countered with Void Bullets that peppered the newcomers, causing explosions to rip through the tunnel. Atlas quickly used Void Sight through the dust cloud to find out who these attackers were.
[Chaos Follower]
[Race: Tainted Human]
[Level: 259]
[Rank: Journeyman]
'People!' Atlas thought as his eyes widened. 'Now this is a surprise.'
He quickly moved toward the men and ducked lower before swiping with both blades. The blades tore through the enemy's armor as he took the enemies down, and they let out a yelp of surprise.
'I will capture one to question,' he pondered while thinking about why they are here.
Then, Atlas cast Void Wave, which sent the others crashing into the walls.'Time to move,' he thought before rushing around the tunnel and finishing off the enemy efficiently due to the sudden attack.
Atlas left one Chaos Follower alive after dealing with them all. He slowly approached the dying man and crouched before him while taking off his helmet, which shocked him, ''You're the Voidwalker!'' he muttered.
''Yes you're right,'' Atlas replied with a grin. ''Now, why are you in this dungeon? And I'd advise you to tell the truth.''
The man shook his head, his smile widening, though it never quite reached his eyes. "I was hoping you'd say that," he said with a cold edge to his voice. "Now I get to put my new monsters to the test."
With that, Atlas waved his hand and activated Dungeon Conquerer to summon a dozen Giant Leeches that lunged at the Chaos Follower, which made him smile as he spoke, ''They will inject poison into your body that will keep you alive.''
Following that, he summoned Cave Weavers, who also started eating the man while he struggled and soon wanted to talk. Atlas ordered the monsters to back off, which they did as he spoke, ''Now what are you doing in this dungeon?''
''We're looking for the Deathglade Gem,'' the Choas Follower answered in a strained voice. ''The General wanted to present it to the king.''
Atlas nodded understanding before motioning to the monsters who pounced on the man and started eating him alive. He smiled at this before looting the dead followers before he approached the secret door.
He pushed open the door and stepped into a small room, his gaze immediately drawn to a pedestal against the far wall. 'Is this what they're after?' Atlas wondered, moving further inside.
On the pedestal rested a small chest perched on a red cushion. Curious, he approached and carefully lifted the lid, revealing what lay inside. There was a small piece of black metal that glowed with mana.
'What is this thing? It seems like treasure to me,' he thought.
His curiosity soared, causing Atlas to pick it up, and he used Void Sight to find out any information.
[Darkmoor Metal: Let it touch your armor, and it will boost its defense while also allowing you to blend into your surroundings]
Atlas was excited, but that's when he heard another group of Chaos Followers heading down the tunnel. Without a second thought, he pushed the door closed and listened to the voices that appeared.
"We need to find the Deathglade Gem, as it's a vanquisher that the king detests," a woman's domineering voice echoed.
He grew curious, but a man spoke in a submissive voice, ''We know the boy has one piece of the puzzle. There's nine more, and the King's Map we can find before him.''
When hearing the enemy's words, Atlas remembered the ingot he found a while ago and pulled it out of the dark blue metal, which felt right in his hand. He put it back as the Chaos Followers passed by, sighing in relief as he put the Darkmoor Metal against his armor.
A brilliant light flared as the ingot melded into Atlas's armor, sending a surge of power through it, making him grin with satisfaction. He watched in awe as the armor seamlessly shifted its color to blend perfectly with the wall he leaned against.
'This is amazing,' he mused with an excited smile. 'I will be able to kill a lot of Chaos Followers while hidden in the shadows.'
Then, Atlas left the hidden room and stepped back into the tunnel before walking deeper into the dungeon. Glancing around, he saw nothing as he entered the forty-second floor, which wasn't any more tunnels.
'Strange, are the followers clearing the dungeon?' he thought while scanning the horizon and seeing tall mountains covered in an eerie mist.
That's when cold air brushed against his skin, causing him to put his helmet back on while glancing at the dead landscape. Following that, Atlas continued to travel across the grassland only to hear a roar in the distance.
His head snapped in that direction, and he realized a battle was going on, causing him to summon Theo before jumping on his back. The Blood Bat King soared in the air until explosions and screams could be heard.
Atlas spotted two dozen Chaos Followers attacking a massive mammoth-looking monster with long, shaggy brown fur and two vicious-looking tusks protruding from his face. He quickly noticed the creature was protecting a smaller one.
When Atlas saw this, he grew curious and scanned them.
[Mistwalker]
[Rank: A - 1000 Exp]
[One of the rare neutral Dungeon Monsters]
'Interesting,' he thought before deciding to help the monsters.
Then, Atlas ordered Theo to target the Chaos Followers with a screech to get the jump on them. The Dungeon Monster agreed with a chirp as he swooped down, allowing him a perfect shot at the attackers.
He unleashed a Void Barrage, sending a storm of azure explosions cascading over the eerie humanoids. With a deft leap off Theo's back, he employed Void Step to materialize directly in front of their leader.
In a seamless motion, he slit the leader's throat before casting a volley of Void Bullets at the remaining foes. Their high-pitched screeches filled the air as they clutched their ears in pain, allowing Atlas to eliminate the rest of the enemies swiftly.
Thanks to his speed, magic, and weapons, the Chaos Followers stood no chance against his growing skill. Ten minutes later, Atlas stood before the giant Mistwalker, staring at him with a curious gleam in its yellow eyes.
Following that, Theo dropped behind him, causing the mammoth-looking monster to back off, but Atlas spoke with a friendly smile, ''I'm not here to hurt you. Hide until I kill them all.''
The Mistwalker's trunk slowly approached him and nudged his body while making a happy noise.
