Chapter 42 CH : 42
A deafening cry echoed through the mountain, sending shivers down the duo's spine. Even as they ran, the sound pursued them relentlessly, growing louder and more ominous with each passing moment.
Dryads were known for their peaceful nature, but when their emotions reached a boiling point, they could snap with alarming speed. The negative energy that coursed through them in those moments could easily corrupt their once-gentle souls, turning them into violent, vengeful beings.
Debbie had heard stories of such transformations, tales of dryads who had been pushed too far and had lashed out with a fury that was both terrifying and awe-inspiring. It was a reminder that even the most benevolent creatures could become dangerous if provoked, and that one must always tread carefully when dealing with the supernatural world.
"Run faster! " she clung to him with a death grip, her body pressed against his as she strapped herself tight to his muscular form. She sacrificed their supplies and belongings, tossing them aside without a second thought in order to lighten their load and allow him to run at his full speed.
With renewed determination, he pushed himself to run faster, his heart racing with thrill and adrenaline. The chase was on, and Vincent could only hope that they would be able to outrun the furious dyrad hot on their heels.
Behind them .
The Dryad was not running on the ground like a normal creature, but rather, she was swimming through the earth, her body undulating like a wave in the ocean. As she moved, she could feel the vibrations of the werewolf's steps, and she followed them with an unerring sense of direction.
To her surprise, she found that her target was much faster than she had anticipated. Despite her best efforts, she could not keep up with him. She was a creature of the earth, and her speed was limited by the density and composition of the soil. But the werewolf she was chasing seemed to glide over the earth's surface as if it were nothing more than a thin layer of mist
Her desperation was visible as she whispered an incantation to the earth, causing the mountain to tremble with energy in response. It was a reckless move, as she knew it would cost her half of her life force to control the land within her range.
"Something is wrong " he grumbled to himself. His heart raced as he sensed danger lurking around him. His wolf senses were on high alert, warning him of an impending threat. Suddenly, the trees surrounding him began to writhe and twist, and long vines shot out from every direction.
The situation was dire, and he knew he had to act fast. His instincts kicked in, and he quickly shifted his weight, his body moving with an otherworldly grace as he danced through the vines. He could feel his adrenaline pumping, and his muscles ached with the strain of his movements.
But despite his agility, the vines seemed to be closing in on him, and he knew he couldn't keep this up forever. He had to find a way out before it was too late.
"We need to get the hell out of here, Vincent! She can only use her full power within her territory," Debbie yelled, urging him to run faster.
Vincent's heart raced as he surveyed his surroundings, seeking a way out of the dryad's territory. He knew that he had to escape if he wanted to survive. The dryad's powers were not to be underestimated, and even his werewolf instincts were screaming at him to run.
He pushed himself beyond his limits, not caring of the toll it was taking on his body. He knew that he was fighting for his life, and that there was no room for hesitation or weakness.
Every muscle in his body burned with the effort of his movements, his breath coming in ragged gasps as he forced himself onwards. He knew that he was running on fumes, his energy reserves depleted and his strength fading by the second. But he refused to back down, refusing to give up even as the odds seemed to be stacked against him.
Suddenly, a surge of energy coursed through his body, causing his muscles to solidify and his legs to grow even bigger. With a massive step, he accelerated and reached a speed of 130 miles per hour. His fur seemed to have a mind of its own as it grew longer and bound Debbie to safety.
She was surprised by this sudden type of power. It wasn't a normal werewolf ability, so she assumed it must be the medallion.
"No!!!!!" The dryad was left feeling powerless as Vincent's sudden burst of speed caught her off guard. She was frustrated, realizing that they would soon be escaping her territory, where she was at her strongest.
Her powers would be diminished by a staggering 80% outside of her domain, making her virtually powerless against her foe, so she needed to capture him now .
" Stop running, you embecile!" she writhed in frustration as she attempted to ensnare him with her vines, but her enemy was too swift for her to catch. Her powers seemed to falter in the face of his raw physical speed.
Despite her best efforts, she could not keep up with his lightning-fast movements. Try as she might, her vines could not react quickly enough to ensnare him, and even when she attempted to block his path, he simply leaped over the obstacles with ease.
In a final desperate attempt to stop him, she summoned forth all of her remaining power, calling a storm of thorns and brambles to strike Vincent from all sides. But he was too quick for her, darting and weaving through the onslaught with uncanny grace.
"Awooooooooooo" With a fierce roar, Vincent sprang forward, his body transforming into a blur of fur and muscle. She could only watch in horror as he finally escaped her territory.
"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerk!" another cry of anger reverberated in the forest, this time so powerful that the whole mountain quaked in agony.
However, a wide grin formed on Vincent's face after he heard that agonizing cry; he felt thrilled to escape such a powerful figure. The adrenaline he felt on this journey was like a drug.
Debbie, on the other hand, felt complicated . Vincent's werewolf form was unlike anything she had ever witnessed before. She feared that his rapid growth and newfound abilities would change him for the worse.
