Chapter 56: They, huh?
Suddenly, electricity burst out of the Hunter's hands, eyes, and hair. His whole body became electrically pulsing. Crackling, he said, "This is me at my peak. Kill me if you can, dumb demon. Or I'll be taking your head."
The pufferfish-like demon just spat out another wave of poison at the Hunter, but before it could react, the Hunter vanished. The pufferfish grew incredibly wary and looked around.
The Hunter whispered from its back, "Are you searching for me?"
Swiftly, it turned, but no one was there. From its front, another whisper appeared: "I am in my Electric King Mode. This is me at my peak, and no random Demon could match my speed while I am in this form. At this moment, I am as fast as 150 Miles Per Hour!!"
The demon shifted in that direction, but the enemy was already gone, and before it could react, it felt an immense wave of electricity pass through it.
"ARGH!!!!!" it screamed, but in the wave of electricity, its blood itself was charred, and soon enough, it couldn't even writhe.
It had died.
From a building nearby, Mark sighed. The demon had more demonic tricks it could have used, but it was too clumsy.
But its death made Mark even more confused.
Since this was a Dungeon, the World Will could not collect the Demon's body and soul to create another Hunter. This made it even more curious why someone would risk their life for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
Just why?
"Ha..Ha…" The Hunter chuckled and crackled as smoke escaped from his body. If he didn't have his Lightning Resistance, he'd have died too.
He stumbled forward and looked towards the charred demon corpse.
Mark looked at the Hunter coldly.
He nodded at Dona and jumped down the building. She was now in a remotely safe area and if a Demon were to attack her, she could call out to him—he'd notice it.
He jumped down, and his black wings gracefully met the morning sun before he whizzed through the air and appeared beside the Hunter.
The middle-aged man looked at Mark and touched his balding grey hair.
"Another one?" he said with a bit of tiredness.
Mark looked at him curiously, then shifted his gaze to the dead Demon. This was the use of a good offensive ability that others didn't have any Resistance against, it could be used as a killer move.
Fireballs, electricity attacks, all of those were like that. Nobody could resist them as long as it was used well. Whereas the Demons had a Resistance to Physical Attacks.
"Another one indeed, and I'll be taking your life," Mark said, focusing back on the Hunter.
The Hunter was frozen for a second before he took two steps back.
"Tal—Talking demon?"
Mark curiously looked at him, and the middle-aged man began to sweat and back away. Then, the man suddenly calmed down, and he began to pulse with electricity.
Mark smirked. According to his calculation, the man should be capable of doing that Electric King Mode once again.
"No, you don't."
It would be pretty interesting to see who among them was faster. His wings made Mark way faster than he would have been normally without it. So, he did have a desire to test it.
But Mark just wanted to kill the Hunter and grow stronger for now.
The most efficient way to do that was to destroy the Hunter's only way of attacking him.
[Mark]
[Mind: 92/92 (High)]
[The Hunter]
[Mind: 17/49 (Low)]
Heart Input!
Mark entered the Hunter's mind and felt the complicated thought process of the enemy. He could understand no core values of this person at all. He was a very complicated individual.
But that was fine. He was not here to manipulate the man's mind. He just wanted to use the side effect of the manipulation and make the man use up all his Mindpower.
He whispered into the mind of the Hunter: "When you are near death, tell the intelligent Demon before you why you are here trying to kill Hunters when there is no benefit for that."
The Hunter tried to go into the Electric King Mode but then, frowned as nothing happened.
[Mark]—[Mind: 75/92 (High)].
[The Hunter]—[Mind: 0/49 (Low)].
Without his Mindpower, the Hunter Ability didn't work and without the ability, the human body, even though it was stronger than Mark, didn't help the Hunter much.
Mark and he exchanged a glance, and the man's gaze grew blank. Dream Shock!
He saw a dream. In that dream, he was the Lightning God.
The Hunter who saved the world.
In that dream, he annihilated all Demons and took revenge for his dead daughter. In that dream, the world had a happy ending.
Dream Shock!
Two hands were torn and thrown to the side—crimson blood exploded all around. Then, a powerful kick landed on the man's chest and he crashed onto the ground, a powerful leg crushing his ribs underneath.
Briefly, his life flashed through his eyes, and he knew… he was dying. Mark's cold golden eyes looked down at him condescendingly.
Mouth dripping with blood, the Hunter smiled. He couldn't die yet, he had to tell the fact to the face of this demon first. Only then would he be happy in the afterlife.
"Demon," he said.
"What?" the Demon asked.
"Do you know why we Hunters come in here to kill as many Demons every day as much as we can, even when we make no profit from doing that?"
The Demon squinted.
"It's because we know. When enough demons die, THEY will appear to save us!"
"They?"
"Your nemesis, you filthy scum of earth." The Hunter spat blood on Mark's face, but the Demon guarded it with his wings. "ANGELS! They will come as long as we kill enough of you!"
Mark looked at him with a frown.
"What? ARE YOU AFRAID—"
A stomp on the head. Blood bloomed.
The annoying human grew silent.
For the first time since he became a Lower Demon, Mark saw the violet screen blur in his mind—
[Killed a B-rank Hunter—Soul Sphere has been automatically absorbed into the Host's Soul Space]
[Soul Sphere +49]
Even though the Soul Sphere collection process after the murder was automatic, there was a very faint sensation in Mark's mind. Now he had a Soul Sense to get a feel for process of absorbtion, after all.
The sensation of a Soul Sphere being extracted from the Hunter and getting thrown into the well inside his Soul Space, it felt a bit ticklish.
He felt it for the first time, then sighed.
"Angels… huh?"
